Fifth Years, Lesson Three

full

James had arranged his classroom a little differently in order to perform the demonstration required for the lesson that day. The desks has been pushed to the side and cushions had been laid out on the floor in front of his desk with enough for one per student. As they began to enter the classroom in droves he turned his attention to them, "Come in, everyone take a seat we're mixing things up today," So far they had been reviewing old concepts in preparation for their exams but today they would be learning something new and that required a demonstration, something he hoped they would enjoy even if it wasn't the most practical of spells.

"Today we will be learning the Gemino curse," James said once he had closed the classroom door and leaned against his desk. "This curse is slightly different to what you've learned about so far as it does not directly cause harm to a person or an object, when the spell is cast on an object it will duplicate when touched, the copies of the item are however useless," He paused before continuing. "It might not seem that useful to you however it is often used as a security measure for high value items in Gringotts, items duplicating endlessly in a confined space will certainly have consequences for anyone foolish enough to attempt a break in. This spell should not be confused with Geminio which duplicates the targeted object as Geminio is not a curse, and it makes a double in appearance, and any magical effects it contains will not be duplicated. The doubling charm has the same name, yet, how to make it into a curse is a special case." James took out his wand and from his desk took a plate which held a single cookie on it. He cast the Gemino curse on it and touched it so it duplicated and passed the plate to the first student. "As you can see after casting the curse and touching the cookie it duplicated, I want you each to touch the cookie and watch as it duplicated and pass the plate on once you've seen it," James stood with his wand ready in case things got out of hand, but he had made sure the demonstration would be entirely safe. One by one new cookies emerged and by the time the plate made its way back to him it was full. He tapped his wand on the cookie to stop it duplicating and set the plate on his desk.

"I think that's enough for one day, I'll let you go and enjoy your free time before your next class, don't say I never give you anything, and speaking of, for homework please write an essay about the curse we covered today and why it's dangerous due next lesson, class dismissed,"

RP the lesson. Do the homework for extra credit. First poster feel free to have your character be the first person to be handed the plate.

Marley couldn't believe they were already into the third week of the semester already, which meant Halloween was around the corner and Marley knew she had to think fast of what she was supposed to wear to the Halloween feast. She was sure she could whip something up real quick. The Hufflepuff quickly packed up the things she needed for her lesson before quickly making her way down to her dada class. The girl was relieved she hadn't arrived late, only just making it to class before the lesson began.

As the professor started off with the lesson, Marley quickly but quietly got her things out as the professor spoke, before quickly taking notes that she needed as well as nodding her head along to what the professor was saying as she wanted to show that she was understanding the content. She made sure to take note of the similar charms/curses, making sure to note the differences. It wasn't long before they were given a plate of a cookie in which they had to touch and pass along. Marley watched as the professor first handed it to a student and watched as they touched it, amazed by how it duplicated. She was then next to touch the cookie, still amazed with how it managed to do that.

As tume went by, the lesson had come to an end and they were dismissed. Marley was glad and relieved that they didn't have any sort of homework this week. The Hufflepuff quickly packed up things and tided up her area. Marley then says a quick thanks and goodbye to the professor before heading out of the classroom with the rest of her friends and classmates.

Aura entered the defence classroom and immediately noticed a change in the setup. She actually liked Professor Cade for what it was worth, he had a better grasp on this stuff than her previous professor did anyway. The desks had been pushed aside, and cushions were laid out neatly on the floor. With an arched brow and a subtle smirk, she took a seat toward the front, intrigued by what Professor Cade had planned. He seemed to have a flair for the unconventional, and Aura appreciated that - it kept things interesting. After all, she didn't have a Theo in her class to entertain her, so she had to get it from somewhere, right? When he introduced the Gemino Curse, Aura leaned forward slightly, her quill poised over her notebook. As he explained the distinction between the curse and the charm, her mind raced with the possibilities. She imagined the chaos this spell could cause in the wrong hands and how useful it could be for security measures. Watching him demonstrate the curse with the cookie, Aura observed intently, nodding slightly as the plate was passed to her after a Hufflepuff she didn't quite know the name of.

Carefully, she reached out and touched the cookie, watching with fascination as another appeared. A flicker of a smile crossed her lips before she passed the plate to the next student, noting the steady build of duplicates. By the time the plate returned to Professor Cade, it was piled high. She couldn’t help but think about how deceptively simple yet potentially dangerous the curse was, depending on how it was used. As the professor dismissed the class, Aura gathered her notes and exited quietly, her mind already formulating her essay.
The Gemino Curse might not seem dangerous at first since it doesn’t harm anyone directly, but it’s surprisingly effective as a security measure. When cast on an object, it causes it to duplicate endlessly when touched, making it impossible to deal with in a confined space. This is why places like Gringotts use it to protect valuables - imagine being buried under a mountain of useless copies! Unlike the Geminio Charm, which just makes one duplicate of an item, the Gemino Curse creates a chaotic and uncontrollable flood of replicas, turning even harmless objects into a serious obstacle. It’s a clever way to keep intruders out without needing brute force, and it shows how powerful magic can be even in subtle forms.

Callie walked into the defence against the dark arts classroom and took the same spot as she had in the week before. She took out her notes, parchment and wand and placed them down on the desk, unsure which she would need for this very lesson. As it turned out she’d need them all. The professor was telling them about a curse and she made sure to get down what the professor was saying about it. She listened to the professor and then took the plate, and she touched the cookie, watching as it immediately duplicated and then she passed the plate on to the next person. The lesson was wrapped up once they had all touched the cookie. With that she packed up her things and then headed out of the classroom.

Enoch walked into the defence against the dark arts room, and noticed immediately how things had been changed up. He rolled his eyes and just took a seat where he could out of the way, as much as the layout allowed. He then looked to the man as he got started and told them they’d be learning about the gemino curse. Enoch took some notes as the professor spoke. Making sure that he was getitng down what was being said by the professor on it. He took the plate when it was handed to him, touched the cookie and passed it on without a second glance. He didn’t need to see it working, twenty some times. The lesson was then wrapped up and he immediately headed out.

Teddy arrived for Defence Against the Dark Arts class and was confused by the switch up of the classroom but decided to roll with it and take a seat for the lesson. He listened to Professor Cade introduce Geminio. He watched as the plate of cookies were duplicated by each student then passed along. When the plate reached Teddy he wondered if he could take one to eat it. He was trying to remember Gamp's Law, he knew transfiguring an object into food would not make it edible, but he wasn't sure about duplicated food. Deciding not to risk it, he passed on the plate to the next person and noted down the homework to work on later before leaving the classroom.

Geminio is used to duplicate objects and an effective security deterrant used in Gringotts as it can duplicate infinitely. However if not controlled could cause confusion as to which item is the original. It's dangerous because it could also be used for crime such as financial fraud, probably not with our system, but easily with muggle money. It can also be dangerous if used to disguise dangerous items, like duplicating a cursed item then duplicating the item to make it difficult to find the original cursed item.

Lucy was in a good mood as she came to the classroom, taking her seat and readying herself for a new lesson. The gemino curse was on the menu today, an interesting one but Lucy struggled for a moment about why it was a curse. She listened carefully however, and slowly got an inkling of an idea. She touched a cookie, watched it duplicate, and passed the plate along. It seemed a little bit of a boring way to demonstrate the curse. She was kind of curious - if the copies were useless, would the cookies just taste bad or turn to nothing when someone attempted to eat them? She was a bit nervous to actually ask so she kept it to herself. After all, she could always visit the library and do a bit of extra reading if she wanted. Lucy took note of the homework and then went on her way.
