Even with the year almost halfway over, Nell still didn't really feel like she could be at home in the Ravenclaw tower anymore. Even when she wasn't avoiding Selene, everything there still reminded her of their ill-fated relationship. So Nell had been spending more time than usual out and about in the school, trying to forget the past year and focus on the current one. Entering the student lounge she was pleased to spot Jasper, making a beeline for the Slytherin. Nell had picked up a bag of Bertie Botts that happened to be pretty exclusively terrible beans so far, and she had been holding onto them with the hopes of pranking Jasper. Flopping into the seat beside him, she grinned as she pulled the bag from her pocket and jangled it. "Dare you to eat one."

Jasper had intended to study, he really had. But after putting down his boring textbook, he had picked up a quidditch magazine which was definitely a lot more interesting. He was very aware of the upcoming Quidditch match against Gryffindor, and how important it was that they won. He was reading about some cool strategies, wondering if he should discuss the with Blake. Though he doubted Blake would listen to him or take him seriously. Things weren't as bad as they used to be, but he still didn't think Blake would take too kindly to a suggestion from him. He looked up in surprise as someone sat down next to him, and then looked at the beans she offered him. "Only if you eat one too." He said, frowning. "These aren't the ones from Gambol and Jape's right? That are all bad?" He asked her suspiciously as he took one. "Let's both eat them at the same time." He added then. If Nell refused to eat one, he would know it was just a silly prank.

Nell didn't know why she hadn't expected Jasper to be suspicious, and she couldn't help being disappointed he didn't trust her. She rolled her eyes. "No! I got these from Honeyduke's!" She insisted, giving him a look. There was nothing she could do about his request that she try one too though, so she sighed, taking a bean at the same time. "You're on." She said, meeting his eyes with a challenging look. "3... 2... 1!" Nell counted down, before stuffing the bean in her mouth, trying to pocket it in her cheek to avoid tasting it. Nothing could have hidden the intense, painful sourness of the pure lemon juice though, and Nell could feel her eyes watering as she struggled to swallow it as quickly as possible. "Bleeeh! I got lemon juice, how about you?"

Jasper shrugged as Nell insisted the beans were from honeydukes. He couldn't help being suspicious, especially as he had pulled the prank with the bad beans on his dad more than once. It was, admittedly, always hilarious. "Alright, sure." He said, watching as Nell grabbed a bean as well. Then on the count of three, he popped the one he had grabbed into his mouth, immediately pulling a face at the bitter taste flooding his mouth. He forced himself to swallow it, but he wished he could spit it out. That would definitely make him look like a baby, though, next to Nell. "Brussels sprouts." He said with a shudder. "So gross."

The one upside to trying these awful beans was getting to watch Jasper's reaction, and Nell giggled at his face. She laughed even more when he said what it was. "What?!" Nell squawked, laughing harder. "That's not bad at all!" She pulled another one from the bag, feeling daring now. "Come on, round two!"

Jasper frowned when Nell laughed at him, and he poked her in her side. "They're disgusting." He argued. "Way worse than lemon juice." He added, though he wasn't sure if that was true. He nodded as Nell announced a round two, grabbing one from her bag as well. "Three, two, one..." He counted down. "Go!" He popped it into his mouth, and immediately grinned. "Oh, I got honey." He said, the first good one from the bag, and it was for him. He watched Nell's reaction eagerly hoping she had something especially gross.

Nell snorted at Jasper's comment. "Ew, no! Lemon juice is so sour, gross!" She grinned as he counted down, before popping the next bean into her mouth. Her face twisted as she chewed, trying to place the unfamiliar horrible taste. "Ew, this is like.... dirt? Metal? Something nasty." She grumbled, reluctantly swallowing. "No fair. You have to eat two at once this round." Nell said firmly, grabbing another bean from the bag. "That's the rule if you get a nice one." She decided, giving Jasper a challenging look.

Jasper shrugged. "Well sprouts are bitter, which is worse than sour." He argued with a grin. He liked arguing with Nell, it was familiar and often funny. She had another gross one, which made Jasper laugh. But once she said the new rule, his laughter faded. "That's no fair!" He said, but then paused. "Fine, but you have to do that too." He then told her. He grabbed two beans and put them in his mouth. He immediately pulled a face at the strongly contrasting flavors. "EW! Fish and... grass? Something like that." He said, pulling a face. "Gross."

Nell snorted. "Sour stuff hurts!" She protested, pulling a face at Jasper. She laughed at his protest of the new rule, watching before she responded. She laughed harder at Jasper's reaction, watching his face. "Ewww!" She giggled. "I had a nice one last time, so I only have to eat one." She said firmly, pulling a single bean from the bag and popping it into her mouth. She choked immediately at the flavour, resisting the urge to spit it out. "AAAAA!" Nell yelped, struggling to swallow the spicy nightmare burning her mouth. It continued to burn on the way down and her eyes watered, blinking back tears as she considered how smart it would have been to bring water. "That was so spicy!"

Jasper wanted to argue that Nell also had to eat two, because lemon really wasn't that bad, and because he was sure she would get a nice one soon and suddenly change the rule she had set up. But then she put it in her mouth, and Jasper couldn't stop laughing at her reaction. He kept laughing even as he opened his bag and pulled out a water bottle, holding it out o her. "Here you go, wimp." He teased her.
