HELLO, THANK YOU FOR SITTING DOWN WITH US. LET'S START WITH YOUR NAME. WHAT IS IT, AND DO YOU HAVE ANY NICKNAMES? "The pleasure, I assure you is all mine. My name is very good place to start, as I feel it greatly demonstrates what I am, who I am. For my family has it's roots in Scotland, but my parents moved to Durham, well outside of the main city. Mostly as the family home on my mother's side was there. Which is why my name is Euan. Which is the Scottish of Evan, pronounced like Ewan. It's a name where how it is pronounced is a mystery to all those who don't live in the heart land of the northern country. It means, born of yew. Something to that effect, the definition has something to do with the divine power we call god, and the earth. Which is why I can forgive it for it's religious definition. People generally have such great difficulty writing my name, I have had more problems in England than in New Zealand, but the only place I was sure that people would at least as me how I spelt it, was in Scotland. I do however like my name. While it poses many issues, it is a great name for the simple fact of it stands out. In every place but it's birth place. I like it because I love nature, my wand has grounding in nature. It suits me better than can be imagined. I also know that I am very likely to pass on my name. Now, my surname, that is a slightly different story. For, it is an old Gaelic name, and is not the name of my ancestors. My grandfather, on my father's side, had a very poor relationship with his father. He was a self made man, and decided that he wanted little to do with the family that raised him, so he moved to Northern Scotland, learned Gaelic, started a business got married, and changed the last name. It's really just the Gaelic version of his name, but my last name is Deoir. With an accent on the o. The English equivalent of the name Dewar. I think it's pronounced the same, which has made it seem pointless, but I like it. Even up north, it's still a very uncommon name. Few still have the old Gaelic names. The ones passed down family to family. I've always like the idea of my grandfather, deciding that he would completely reinvent himself, and create a greater family legacy. Which I approve of a lot. My family is not rich and deep with family history, but since the time of my grandfather, on my father's side, it will become just that. Which is why I have always loved being a Deòir, and do hope that my children will also love the name. Unlike most others, with the shortness of my name, I do not actually have a middle name, or even a nickname. It seemed point and while I have been called many things during my time on this earth, none are things I would chose to tell you now. Just trust me, that whatever nickname you call me, I've been called it before, and I see no point in it existing. So, I wouldn't bother. Really. I went to school in Scotland, I've heard them all. " |
ALL RIGHT, NOW HOW OLD ARE YOU? WHEN WERE YOU BORN? "I recently turned twenty-six, so passed the first quarter milestone. I feel old. It doesn't help that I am married, and have been for almost a year, have a permanent and stay at home job. That she has a job. Everything now no longer feels like it did when I was younger, well, at least you know 21. Or even before I was married. So, I feel old, and I think that is just going to get worse with time. Which I understand completely. Age is just a number, but the emotions that come with each rise along side that fickle little number. I was born twenty-six years ago, a home birth, which is fairly uncommon nowadays, but it was a cold winter that year and the snow had fallen thick. It had been through the sheer fact that my mother was unable to be moved to a hospital that I was born at home. It was the 3rd of February that I was born. A slightly late time for snow, but you know, I was born in Northern England what do you expect. I was later taken to hospital to be sure that everything was in order. Which it thankfully was. That's a really dull story of my birth, but it was just that. All I can tell you is what I have been told, I can give you no more than these little bits of detail. I did not do much for my most recent birthday, we were in the process of moving everything that was still in my apartment in London to the apartment we are currently in, which is also a temporary place. It was however a good birthday. My lovely wife made me the most perfect meal, and we spent most of the night was reruns of old naughties movies on the old tv that I brought with me. Very normal, very muggle. it was nice, and it was a nice change from what I normally do, which is host a large, nosy party in which everyone gets so drunk they can't walk in a straight line, let alone do anything else. The party itself always ends up lasting days because everyone is too hungover to leave. Which suited my fine, but this has definitely made a much appreciated change. I am older, and most of my friends and I can no longer drink to that extent. Though we very often try. Which is pretty much all you need to know about my birthday. " |
HAVE YOU ALWAYS LIVED IN NEW ZEALAND? "I moved here about a year ago now. It was purely because my lovely wife is from New Zealand. A Kiwi through and through, and I had no real attachments to my home, so I was fairly happy to move. Having spent many summers, or winters in this land down under, I found the move fairly refreshing. It is a beautiful country, much like my own. It has the same high mountains, the same huge lakes. It was a nice familiar sort of place. I found I was not as out of my comfort zone as I might've thought having moved so far from my home. I was born in England as I've said. Northern England in a little place outside of Durham. It's a very fancy and expensive place, though I have real issues with the views of many of the people my family is friends with. They are strictly right wing, and I have found myself a lot more left wing, politically speaking. Another reason why this move was pretty good. I have yet to tell which side my new home swings, but it's going to be interesting to say the least. Growing up in England was nice, I learned cricket, and the subtle art of tea making, what a small whisky actually meant. I attended prep school, before I changed schools and attended Hogwarts Scotland. Which was a nice change. I would spend most of my time in Scotland after that. I stayed there during the holidays, and during those long summer months, I found I only ever spent half of them with my family. Magical schools, and magical families are useful in the way that. I enjoyed the time I spent north of the border. I found that my name was widely more accepted, having always received quite a bit of sh1t from my English counter parts. Once I left Hogwarts, I chose to do a year of traveling. It was during this time that I met my wife. She too was traveling, we met in a massive hostel in the middle of Bucharest in Romania. I was completely wrecked, as was she. We hit it off, went to a massive party hosted by a friend of mine who'd moved out there and the morning after we just traveled together. Almost seven years later we're married a year. After traveling for a year, I settled back home. My grandfather on my father's side fell sick, and my father was too busy to take care of both my grandfather and the estate, so the job fell upon me. He died the year after and it was a sad affair, though it meant I was out of a job. It was only then that I went to university, Oxford University and studied Politics and Sociological Theories. A fairly hard subject, but it was during this time that most of my thinkings, and hopefully later in my life books stemmed from. I graduated two years ago, and finished my post-grad just last year. And now you understand why I had no problems moving to New Zealand. I had nothing like a job tying me to England." |
DESCRIBE YOURSELF FOR ME THE BEST YOU CAN. "Describe myself? Well, this will be severely pessimistic. I am not used to flattery, and much less that given from me, to me. I guess I'll start physically. I'm of average height I believe, a little taller than 5ft 9'. I am taller than my wife, and most members of my family, but I believe I just had a rather long growth spurt. I'm thin, my wife always complains that she spends half of her time making sure that I eat. I go into these trances according to her, where I just block out everything else. I just spend days upon days writing, or reading, losing all sense of time. It's probably my worst quality, but sometimes I have to. Sometimes my mind won't shut up until I've finished. I'm not overly thin, I prefer the term slim, mixed in with lanky. Which is a better way of saying it. I have fairly short brown hair. I find it annoying if I have to keep brushing it out of my eyes. So, I got it cut short, and I keep it about this length. It's straight, only gets curly in high humidity, which is why I generally avoid having it too long. I have a lot of freckles, for some odd reason all my family does. There is very little of my skin that is not freckle filled. It gets worse in sunshine, which was why I spent most of my gap year explaining to people that I wasn't sick, that it was just freckles, something I'd had all my life. I stay out of the sun for the most part. It makes me generally very pale.Which is pretty in contrast to my wife, who has slightly darker skin. I have green eyes, dark green, so from far away they could be mistaken for brown eyes. Although up close they are pretty green. Which is good. I know it's a pigment gone wrong or something, but I like it. People are always very surprised when they finally notice my eyes. Which give me a good chuckle often. That's about all in appearance. I don't know what to say about me. I like reading, and I read a lot. I also write a lot, but it's mostly my thoughts on the day, or my thoughts on a topic. I've been told that's what I do best, which is good because I plan on making a living out of it. I'm a pretty cheerful person, I do try my hardest with people, but I get easily angry if people just don't see my view point. I hate arguing, but I do it so often, that my wife claims it's actually my favourite hobby. I'm friendly enough, I care a lot about my friends and family. I try my hardest at everything. I think I'm fairly passionate. I'm loving, I'm sure. I wouldn't have a wife if I was terrible at romance. I don't know what else to say. This is quite hard for me. " |
WHAT'S YOUR FAMILY LIKE? DO YOU HAVE ANY SIBLINGS? "I have no siblings. I'm the only son of my parents. My parents are all right. My mother is a fairly simple woman. She does everything around the house, with the help of the maid who comes by every other day. She does a lot of reading, and every so often guest teaches at the local prep school, generally on the writings of Jane Austen, or Slyvia Plath. It usually depends on the year. She's a fairly old woman now, so she is a little older than my dad. The opposite is mostly true for people. I love my mother dearly, and she is a kind woman I'm lucky to still have in my life. My father runs a law firm in Durham. As he is a wizard, his firm cater to both muggle and wizarding cases. All of the employees are wizards who have attended muggle university. It's quite a place, my father wanted me to join him. But I had no interest in persuing law. I much prefer what I do now. It is a lot more interesting, and I'm not strictly stuck to a 24/7 job as my father is. We get along fairly well, but my father is a very strongly right wing conservative and we often argue over trivial things like the relevance of social care. It sounds boring, but I come up with my best argument while shouting at my father. It works. We argue nothing gets solved and we go back to just being father and son. We also do this thing where if I see something making fun of conservatism, I'll call him, or take a picture of it for him. He does the same. We might have opposing political views and values but at the end of the day we're family, and political opinions stay at the door. I would go into the rest of my family, but most of them are dead, and my family does not stretch that far beyond the three of us. I of course have in-laws, but I refuse to really see them as family. My wife is my real family now, and I haven't really mentioned her here, maybe I should. Since really me and her will create our own little family, so that I have more to say next time you ask me this. Currently we are childless, which I'll be honest suits me fine. We're still a little young to be having kids. Still much to do, much to enjoy. My wife and I were dating four years, we were engaged for a year and a half, and we've been married about a year now. She's a beautiful and incredibly talented woman. I'm honored to have her in my life. She's New Zealand born, oh and she's called Jennifer Combeferre, but she's changing her name to Jennifer Deoir, which she is a little unhappy about. I offered to change my name to Euan Combeferre, but she said it sounded really ridiculous. So, we've stuck with Deoir. We get a long really well, and rarely, if ever fight. I love her with all my heart, our life is perfect together. Really, and that's all the family I have to talk about, so why don't we move along " |
WHAT'S YOUR LOVE LIFE LIKE? ARE YOU SEEING ANYONE AT THE MOMENT? "This is an odd question, considering I've already told you that I'm married. I'm not seeing anyone on the side. I've not got some mistress hiding away in the cupboard. I don't, you can check. I'm happily married. So, my love life is doing pretty good. I'm really happily married. I wouldn't have asked her to marry me if I wasn't so. I'm not the kind of person who rushes into things. I take my time with such things. Why would I rush? What good would that do? No, I'm happily married, seeing no one other that my wife. " |
WHAT'S YOUR FONDEST MEMORY YOU CAN THINK BACK TO? "This is tricky, I had a good upbringing. My father was barely around and my mother let me do mostly what I wanted. Which was good. I have a lot of good memories. They far outweigh the bad. I guess I'd have to say the day I got married. I know it's cliché, but it's true. We had the wedding in my hometown, on a lovely summer's day. The weather was gorgeous. It was a mix of muggle and wizarding people. We had the ceremony in the church, and I swear when I saw her in that dress for the first time, I just melted. I'm pretty sure I started crying, as silly as it sounds. I just couldn't believe it was happeneing to me, you know. That this stunning girl had decided I was the guy she'd marry. She looked so beautiful, and it was a beautiful ceremony. I've never seen my parents happier. I don't think I've been happier. We started a relationship on the back of a van in Turkey, and from there we'd been together through thick and thin, it was time to make it official. It was a perfect day, and definitely the best day of my life so far. We haven't had any kids yet, so this might change. Give it time. " |
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO? ANY GOALS YOU WANT TO REACH? "Looking forward to, oh, I don't know. A lot of things. We're moving into a bigger house, and I'm pretty sure that she wants to start trying for kids. Which I'm unsure about, but that's pretty exciting. I can't wait to have a little boy running around. Or girl for that matter. My wife is will be an excellent mother, she has this way with kids, they love her. She's a primary teacher at this small private school, and everyone loves her. I can't imagine why they wouldn't either. She's prefect. So, that'll be something to look forward to. I'm also looking forward to getting properly started on this new job of mine. I've been so far doing an internship at a local law firm. Using my father's knowledge to good use. It's mostly unpaid, but it's good to get a bit of experience before I look for something more in my field. I'll probably do something with politics. I'm not sure yet. I spend half my time writing from home anyway, so I may just do that. I guess those are things I have to look forward to. I know, it's sounds horrible right? But, I assure you, it is something to look forward to. " |
DO YOU HAVE ANY SECRETS? I PROMISE NOT TO TELL! "I wish I did my friend, but I do not. Nothing that I would want others maybe finding out about. I don't like being too honest with people I've just met. Well, in say that, I've told you a lot about myself during this. So, you know more about me than most do. So, no, that's more than enough. " |
WELL, THAT'S ALL THE TIME WE HAVE. THANK YOU FOR TALKING TO US! "No, really thanking you. I've enjoyed myself, and it's always good to talk to someone other than yourself. Right? No, but really, the pleasure is really all mine. " |
