The Basics

Character's Name: Emmanuelle Aurélie Faraday
A name loaded with symbolism, born from a rather sinful-seeming woman, fallen from grace. She took up the surname Faraday when she legally became an adult, choosing to carry her father's name instead of her mother's.

Character's Birthdate: June 27, 2008

Hometown: Bordeaux, France - although she must confess she barely remembers living there, as she and her mother were prone to moving around a lot.

Blood Status: Mixed-blood (Part-Veela)

Wand: Willow Wand 14 1/2", Veela Hair Core
Willow is known as the tree of enchantment, known for its healing properties. The Veela hair is Emmanuelle's grandmother's.

Educated At: Beauxbatons from years 1 - 4, Hogwarts Scotland for years 5 - 7.
House: Hufflepuff

Occupation: Professor of Herbology at Beauxbatons.

Appearance

Hair: Blonde - not bright blonde, but blonde with brunette streaks. Surprising for a part-Veela, really, but she did manage to take a lot after her father instead of her mother (although the Veela genes are still obvious)

Eyes: Bright blue. They are quite wide, but not so wide as to be unnatural.

Height: She's not exactly tall, but she's not short either. She stands at about 5'6" - and likes to wear shoes with a slight heel to make herself that tiny bit taller!

Style: Emmanuelle is a bit eclectic, but when she's at work, she always presents herself neatly, choosing pretty skirts and cardigans (which she wears work robes over, as she's usually working in the gardens). She owns lots of clothes with flower motifs - appropriate, really, for a Herbology Professor. Sometimes she looks a little old-fashioned, but she doesn't mind. The Veela genes help her to look quite pretty in whatever she wears. Whether that's a blessing or a curse, she hasn't exactly decided.

Other Distinguishing Features: Being a quarter Veela, Emmanuelle is naturally strikingly pretty. She often tries to downplay it - she doesn't like to use her looks as a weapon, after all. In her adulthood, she's learnt that sometimes having beauty on your side is quite the large advantage, but it isn't something she tries to flaunt. She doesn't really have any other obvious distinguishing features though - she has a birthmark (that really doesn't look like anything) on her hip - but that's always covered up!

A Little Deeper

Personality: Emmanuelle is a very caring, loving, motherly person. Probably because she never really had a good mother figure in her life. Her own mother was rather...distant, and a bit callous and uncaring to her own child. Emmanuelle's always had a lot of love to give, though, and being a teacher brings joy to the young woman's heart, because she's able to impart her knowledge on the youth, as well as being a friendly face (despite the role of teacher). Being able to provide what she never really had makes her happy - it's a reason she'd like to have a child of her own one day. She's also surprisingly modest, despite her beauty. It probably comes from the neglect she faced from her mother - despite being pretty, she never really found it easy to fit in at school (mostly because she'd never had a steady home or group of friends). However, in her adulthood, she's really picking her life back up and getting herself sorted out, and prefers to be the shoulder to cry on rather than needing one of her own. Which isn't to say she doesn't need help at times - of course she does, everyone does. She feels alone and miserable a lot of the time, too. She just works past it, because she knows it's all you can do.

Special Talents/Abilities: She is part-Veela, but she thinks of that as more of a curse than a blessing. She downplays it a lot, though, and she really doesn't get out enough to attract the attention of many. Sometimes she loses her temper, and the Veela side of her scares her, so she's always worked hard to keep it all under control. She's good with plants, though, being a natural green-thumb (so to speak), and she can play the cello - not perfectly, mind you, but quite nicely.

History: Emmanuelle was born in Bordeaux to Evangeline Leroy (a French half-Veela) and Tyrone Faraday (half-American, half-English). Evangeline was always...flighty, however, and she took off with Emmanuelle when the girl was only three. It broke Tyrone's heart, although Evangeline wasn't exactly the most stable woman, he did care about her, and he adored his baby daughter more than anything.

Emmanuelle and Evangeline moved around a lot during Emmanuelle's early life, and Evangeline would often go out to find men to make her feel special, often leaving the young girl to fend for herself, sometimes for days at a time. Still, Emmanuelle managed to become rather self-reliant in that time, if a little withdrawn and lonely. When she was eleven, Emmanuelle was sent off to Beauxbatons, and would spend as many holidays there as she could, even though she wasn't finding it easy to make friends. Still, she was always friendly and cordial to people, even though she may not have been well-liked due to her social awkwardness.

When she was fifteen, a visit to the Leaky Cauldron in London allowed her to find her father, and the two of them were very happily reunited. While Emmanuelle was a bit hesitant at first, and even a little wary - they hadn't had much contact since she was three, although he had begun to send her letters during her time at Beauxbatons. Emmanuelle, then, feeling happier and more loved than she ever had living with her mother, decided to live with her father - Evangeline was not exactly happy about that, but she'd never been much of a mother to Emmanuelle, so she let the girl go. Emmanuelle never saw Evangeline again, and Tyrone moved her to Hogwarts, where she was much happier. Having a stable home life (while Tyrone wasn't exactly a home maker, nor used to having a daughter around) did wonders for her confidence, and while Emmanuelle may have never won a popularity competition or anything like that (her fractured English did make it a little difficult to communicate - it got much better over time but it's still not perfect), she was able to get along with people nicely (even if the boys were a bit wary of her for her Veela looks) and do decently well at school - she'd always struggled at Beauxbatons.

Upon graduation, she lived with her father for a couple more years while she studied Herbology more in-depth and then moved out and took up a job at Beauxbatons, surprising everyone (including herself). As a more confident adult, no longer the awkward teenager, she felt much happier within the walls of Beauxbatons, and liked the fact that she could reach out to girls and boys who might have been just like her and offer friendship and guidance, even as a Professor.

She has had a few relationships in her adult years, though never anything serious. Emmanuelle is happy where she is in life. Ideally she would like to meet someone, marry, and have children, but she's in no such rush to do that - after all, she's only young.

Family:
- Evangeline Leroy (mother): deceased. Half-Veela, very erratic. Also the mother to Antoinette Dalton. A washed-up alcoholic for most of Emmanuelle's early life, which was not a nice environment to live in for the young girl. Divorced Tyrone Faraday when Emmanuelle was three, before moving all around Europe with her daughter, even without her (while Emmanuelle was at Beauxbatons). Died soon after Emmanuelle turned 18 - Emmanuelle didn't even know she was ill, after all, she never heard from Evangeline again after she moved in with her father.

- Tyrone Faraday (father): aged 47. Never quite got over the shock of losing his wife and his daughter so abruptly, after having lost his parents shortly beforehand, his job the day before...he started to recover after a time, and Emmanuelle has been a very positive force in his life ever since she moved back in to live with him. Was a journalist for the Daily Prophet, worked in a minor role at the Ministry of Magic for a bit, and now is looking to take up a role as a Professor at Hogwarts, having been inspired by his daughter. He's a very calm and collected man, despite having been a Gryffindor. His setbacks in life never truly knocked him down, and he's always looking towards the future, which certainly seems brighter these days than it did back then.
