Family History
When Emily moved out of her parents house, they decided to move to England. The whole family, including Justine and Elspeth went to England. They had dinner together at a cafe, and then Emily, Fred, Patrick, and Samantha were going to go to their new house to spend a little family time together. Justine apparated home with Elspeth. When Emily didn't appear with her husband the next day, she began to worry, and went to the house. She saw immediately that they hadn't been in the house, and went to the muggle police to report them missing. They quickly found the crash. Justine was in mourning for years, and withdrew Elspeth from her day care, worrying that she might have an accident without Justine nearby. Justine's own mother died when Elspeth was four, in a fire at the muggle school she taught at, and Justine's father committed suicide the year after.
Pre-Hogwarts
Her father died when she was two years old in a car crash, and her mother brought her up very strictly, teaching her everything about magic during Elspeth's home schooling. She didn't have any friends as a child, because she was almost never allowed out, and if she was, it was under the strict supervision of her mother. She didn't enjoy her childhood, feeling her mother was too overprotective, and they often argued. When she got her letter she was ecstatic, as it meant that she would not only be able to learn magic, but get away from her clingy mother as well.
First Year
She really enjoyed Hogwarts until the first Brightstone weekend, where she was planning to meet her mother, but during one of their trademark arguments, Justine had a heart attack and died. (Here). Elspeth went a little crazy, switching her personalities from Ells, a bubbly happy girl, Beth, a plastic b1tch, and Liz, a typical Ravenclaw, studious, and hardworking, but very shy and quiet. Occasionally she would become plain Elspeth, who spent most of her time crying, and didn't attend any school functions, such as the Halloween Feast, or Yule Ball. However, she recovered after a while, but then she was attacked in a corridor by an older student, who accused her of being crazy.(Here). Elspeth really took that to heart. Then the holidays arrived. She was looking forward to a nice break, but while she was staying at the Halfway House, her cat Pebbles choked and died. (Here). She was distraught; Not only was Pebbles given to her by her mother, one of the last times she saw her, but Pebbles was almost her only friend.
Second Year
She recently received a letter from her aunt, who everyone thought died in the crash with her father. (Here). They met at Brightstone Village, and Emily offered to let Elspeth stay with her over the holidays. (Here). Elspeth attended the Halloween Feast for the first time, and won Jeremy Thorne as a date for the Yule Ball at an auction. (Here). She found it awkward but fun at the Ball with Jeremy. (Here). She also found out that she was related to Aroha Jennings, a Gryffindor who she had irrationally blamed for her mother's death. (Here).
Third Year
Her third year started off tragically when she found out Emily's fiancee was abusive and convinced Emily to leave him.(Here). He found them and killed Emily, and tried to kill Elspeth, but she escaped. (Here). She later found out her friend Aroha had died as well.
