Willow is excellent for healing and non-verbal magic, the latter of which is Nell's specialty. Indeed, she is insecure about being almost 30 and single, as well as her language skills - both entirely unnecessary reasons to be insecure. Fairy wing is good for charms, terrible for hexes. Thankfully, Nell has no real need for hexes and jinxes, unless it's an absolute emergency. (She isn't very good with them anyway!)
Educated At: Beauxbatons (upon her father's insistence)
Shop Owned: Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour
Appearance
Hair: Dirty blonde, naturally light and wavy from having spent a lot of her life around beaches.
Eyes: Dark blue.
Height: About 5'9", reasonably tall comparatively.
Style: Having been educated at Beauxbatons, she makes a concerted effort to appear elegant and well presented. She can be a bit eclectic having picked up different styles in her travels, and when she's working in the kitchen she is more concerned with being comfortable and wearing things she doesn't mind potentially getting stained. Despite cooking with magic she likes the manual part of recipe crafting and quality assurance.
Other Distinguishing Features: She's nearly always got a cup of coffee or tea on hand. Given how much cooking she does she practically subsists off coffee in order to keep everything running efficiently.
A Little Deeper
Personality: Nell is quiet at first glance, not being one to put herself out there. Having been educated at Beauxbatons (while her French wasn't as good as everyone else's due to her primarily English speaking upbringing) she tends not to speak first, thinking her words through carefully before opening her mouth. However she is not cold or rude, merely careful not to make a fool of herself. She is a hard worker, having spent most of her twenties travelling and studying/apprenticing around the world in order to improve her cooking skills, and while she is not necessarily arrogant, she takes a lot of pride in her work and likes to let her cooking speak for itself. She is creative and will spend time experimenting with flavour combinations in ice cream, but always works on making sure the classics are up to scratch.
She's also a bit of a hopeless romantic, but hasn't really successfully had a relationship last longer than a couple of months. Perhaps because she's too shy, or too dedicated to her work, who can really say?
Special Talents/Abilities: None in particular, but she has developed an affinity for charms and can do some simple charms wordlessly (i.e. charms to churn ice cream).
History: Nell was born to a muggle mother and wizard father from a relationship that bloomed while he was backpacking/taking a gap year in Australia from France. Neither of them really expected the relationship to end up in having a child and neither of them really planned on staying together beyond the year as he would return to France and she had no intention of leaving Australia. Still, they kept in touch and he sent support to Nell/would visit occasionally and bring her over to France. Even if they wouldn't be a 'proper' family, they were both keen to ensure that Nell was well looked after. Her father had explained the magic thing to her mother - just as a caution once she was pregnant with Nell in case their child did in fact have magic (and she did), so he insisted that she go to France to study at Beauxbatons. "It is a very good school, and she must have the best education possible." (At this stage, he'd started working at the Ministry of Magic in France and was becoming a well put together man, a far cry from the surfer who didn't know what he was doing with his life).
So Nell would travel across the world to live primarily in France (visiting Australia on holidays when she could) and have a crash course in the language. Although she became relatively fluent, her Australian accent and appearance still made her stick out like a sore thumb, and she never felt like she quite blended in to the school, as much as she tried to. She wasn't exactly bullied or anything, just didn't necessarily fit the mould her father wanted her to. Still, she excelled in Charms and Potions. Less so in other subjects but her grades were acceptable, if not astounding.
Her father then pushed for her to also join the Ministry, presumably so she could settle down and be respectable. She found an entry level job but hated every moment of it. She'd always loved cooking, though - having snuck in to the kitchens at school a lot and also spent plenty of time in the kitchen at her father's house with his family's house elf, Saffron (or Saffy, as Nell called her). Nell and her father ended up having an argument, where she quit her job and went back to Australia, picking up cooking classes instead (which also offended her father, "why would you not study cooking here, in FRANCE of all places???"). For the next few years, Nell travelled around, learning different techniques from around the world and finding employment in restaurants and cafes where ever she could. She had also taken Saffy with her, handing her a sock from her father's draw and asking if she wanted to travel and learn new things as friends, not as master and servant. It was hard to get around muggle cooking schools with a house elf in tow, but they managed it...somehow.
Until recently she and Saffy set up a small cafe in Levante Laneway, Melbourne - a small wizarding alleyway with a pub and a couple of wizarding shops, but the opportunity to take ownership of Florean Fortescue's came up and it was too good an opportunity to pass up. The two of them have been working hard at it since, honing their craft and making business plans for the future.
