Kaimana’s eyes snapped open, and she sat up, her breathing heavy. Her clothes and mattress were drenched in sweat. She took a few deep breaths, trying to calm down. Her nightmares were getting worse, but she didn’t even know what they were about, what they meant. She kept seeing a young couple and a baby. And a car crash. She realised she had been crying, but wiped her tears off, removing her blanket and changing her clothes to something cooler. It had been a hot night. She looked outside, it was just before dawn, the light was beginning to seep through the window. Kai made a split second decision. She grabbed her sweater and shoes and was out of the common room in minutes. She kept walking at a brisk pace, out of the castle, onto the grounds. When she stopped to observe her surroundings, the girl realised she had walked right into the Forest. She held her breath but released it when she decided she didn’t care. This nightmare had been vivid. More so than the ones she’d had before. Kaimana climbed up a tree, just in case there were weird creatures lurking around or waiting for her to fall asleep again.
