DOMINIC doh•mih•nik The origin of Dominic is Latin, and it means "Lord". Saint Dominic was the founder of an important monastic order. It is an appropriate name for children born on Sunday ("the Lord's day"). However, Dominic isn't Christian, and was born on a Saturday. He often goes by the nickname "Dom".
ALFRED al•frid Of Old English origin, the name Alfred means "supernaturally wise", "elf", or "magical counsel". While this may seem to perfectly fit Dominic, as he's both wise and a wizard, this name was actually passed down from his father, who happened to be, funnily enough, a Muggle. Alfred is often shortened to the nickname "Alfie".
HIRSCH hur•sh While Hirsch is originally a Germanic word, it is in fact today a common Jewish surname, picked up by families that lived in or travelled through parts of Europe. It translates to "deer", which is ironic, as Dominic's patronus is a deer. He also had the nickname "Bambi", due to his lankiness and awkwardness as a child.

February 26th, 2005. Dominic was born the son of Alfie Peter Hirsch and Sienna Rose Hirsch (nee Cohen) in Frimley Park Hospital at 8:19 in the evening. Frimley is a town in the county of Surrey, just south of London, England.

Those whose birthdays fall between February 19th and March 20th are Pisceans. People of this starsign are thought of as being creative and sensitive, often escapists with big imaginations. They're selfless and sympathetic, and able to relate to others deeply, due to their intuitive natures. Pisces have strong emotions, and feel things intensely. However, they aren't pushovers by any means, and believe in standing up for what is right. They are very mysterious and spiritual people.

Dominic has been single for some time now, but has been in several long-term relationships in the past. Most of his girlfriends have been tall and brunette, though the woman he currently has feelings for - Clare Walsh - is neither of those things.

His mother is of Mixed Blood, and came from a mainly magical family from Surrey. Dominic's father, on the other hand, was a Muggle, making their off-spring a Half Blood Wizard.

e d u c a t i o n​

Dominic was a student at Hogwarts Scotland from 2016-2023. He was sorted into Ravenclaw house, which suited him perfectly, due to his sharp mind and quick wit. He excelled in every class, though was passed over as a prefect candidate, due to a large number of classes missed for personal reasons. Dominic was a member of many academic and cultural clubs, and was a reserve member for the Ravenclaw quidditch team. His best subject was History of Magic, as it required copious writing, which was fun for him. His worst was potions, as a symptom of high moods is risk-taking, and that ended badly on more than one occasion.

e m p l o y m e n t a n d r e s i d e n c e​

Dominic lives in Brightstone Village in a cosy one-bedroom apartment, though he recently converted his study into an extra bedroom for a flatmate. He works as a freelance journalist, selling his articles and stories to various publications. He often dreamt of writing for the Daily Prophet as a young child, but after growing up and learning how fabricated and debauched much of their work was, Dominic decided to write unrestrained and uncorrupted.

Oak wood, 14 3/4", essence of raven feather. Oak helps to promote intuition and observation, both qualities that Dominic has, and needs for his work. The balanced energy of the wood also helps to ground Dom, and stabilise his moods. The raven feather represents both wisdom and darkness, as well as being a reference to the house of Ravenclaw, in Dominic's case.

If he were to look into the Mirror of Erised at this point in his life he would likely see himself as an esteemed Wizarding journalist, financially and personally secure. However, in the years to come, this will be replaced by the sight of a wife and children, living in a nice country home and having published a bestselling novel.

Dominic's boggart could take the form of his loved ones in distress, as he cares and worries deeply for them. The boggart could also be healers looming over him, because anything to do with his mental illness and its possible consequences terrify him. Also, the sight and sound of shattered glass has always unnerved him, as it reminds Dominic of the car crash his father died in in 2007.

Dominic's patronus animal is a deer, in-keeping with the meaning of his surname. The deer is an animal thought of in myth as a "defeater of evil", which reflects his profession and intentions well. They're symbolically thought of as graceful and benevolent animals, representing peace and spirituality. A patronus-conjuring memory would likely be the first time his writing was published in a highly regard newspaper. Or more recently, a day spent with Clare.

Dominic is a man of many contradictions. While most would speak of his mature, old soul, others would note his hopefulness and child-like naivete, almost foolishly at times. He's an incredibly self-deprecating person, and would sooner agree with someone, were they to insult him, than to put them in their place. That is not to say that the man is a pushover, though, as he would in most cases be the first to stand up for those he cares about. It just happens to be that Dominic doesn't care too much for himself, or think very highly, at least. He often privately criticises and is analytical of his own actions, though it would be rare for Dom to voice these thoughts or to disrespect another. Whether this is due to low self-esteem, internal resentment, or simply a lack of faith in oneself, is anyone's guess. Rather sensitive, Dom can be quite a wallower, a trait he considers unnecessary, frivolous self-pity, continuing his unhealthy cycle. Dominic isn't a shy young man in the slightest, and can confidently speak and interact socially. He does tend to ramble and stumble over words quite often, however, which could more likely be put down to humble awkwardness. He's a deeply worrisome person, and doesn't take deception or betrayal well. He believes that lies only work to damage trust, and that the truth is always an easier, and wiser, option in the long run. Dominic is a genuine and forthcoming soul, so there is nothing fake about the way he deals with people. He has a strongly nurturing nature, and is able to easily empathise with others. A former Ravenclaw, Dom is creative and witty, with a goofy, youthful sense of humour. This is in stark contrast to his intellectual aspect, as he can seem very mature and focused when concentrating on his work or other matters. He's quite pensive, somewhat of a tunnel vision at times. But generally, Dominic is more lively than he is subdued, though he does love to hibernate with a good book. He's not exactly a dreamer, but would probably be considered a romantic.

A fact that does not impact his personality, though it can be a strain, is that Dominic suffers from cyclothymic disorder. This is a milder form of bipolar disorder, which entails the sufferer experiencing polarised and turbulent mood disturbances throughout their lifetime. Some weeks, or months, can be spent feeling a euphoric joy, paired with hyperactivity, etc (known as "hypomania"). However, other periods of time can be spent in a deep depression with little motivation (known as "dysthymia"). But since cyclothymia is a milder form, the majority of his life is spent in a normal, balanced state. Dom has been diagnosed for some years, so while medication can stabilise him, the rush and dive of unexpectedly shifting emotions is exhausting and confusing, to say the least. Despite this, he lives a mostly normal life. Luckily, his career gives him the freedom to - especially on the days when he can't bare to get out of bed because of dysthymia, or feels insomnia due to the hypomania - work fluid hours. And while the disorder does cause Dominic a lot of inner turmoil, and the crashes do take their toll, those around him that are unaware hardly notice. Though sometimes he wishes they would, for want of support and understanding.

i n t e r e s t s a n d h o b b i e s​

Dominic has a strong passion for writing, particularly through journalism. Since childhood he has considered himself a detective, and would snoop around his house with a magnifying glass in hand. His morals are strong, so to do something where one discovers truth and does good is very rewarding for him. Dominic plans to write a novel in the future, when he isn't so focused on his articles. He loves literature in all its forms, and has a wall of his home purely filled with books. Poetry and art are two of his favourite mediums, though he doesn't attempt them so much himself. In quidditch, Dominic was always a reserve, able and willing to cover any position. His favourite, however, was always keeper, as his hand-eye coordination and defense were better than his flying and attack skills. Though at times he can be quite the homebody, the man naturally prefers to be out and about; visiting the library, art galleries, parks, etc.

Dominic has soft, dark, chocolate brown eyes, framed by long eyelashes and thick eyebrows. His eyes convey his feelings very truthfully, there's nothing superficial or forced in his expression. This can almost be to his detriment, as it can be near impossible for Dom to hide his emotions. When sad, he tends to look absolutely heartbroken, like a lost puppydog. And when he's happy, Dom's face will be painted with the biggest, goofiest smile imaginable. In general, one could say that he has an almost fragile-looking face. There's nothing particularly tough or rugged about his appearance, though Dominic doesn't look that feminine either. His posture is usually fairly good, and he only really slouches when hunched over his desk as he writes. Dom projects the image of an average young man, however he tends to cross his arms and fidget a lot when he's thinking. His hair is a rich, dark chestnut colour, and is usually kept fairly short. He generally just styles his hair by pushing it back in a tousled fashion, as he tends to get irritated when it falls across his eyes. He has a pale, Caucasian skintone, though he gains colour easily in the Summer months.

Dominic is what would be considered a fairly tall height, standing at just above six feet. In terms of weight, he is definitely on the lighter side, which makes him appear slightly scrawny. Dominic has filled out since he was a teenager and built up some muscle, but he's still a fairly tall, slim guy. Apart from occasional soccer and the odd bit of quidditch, physical activity or working out is not a big part of his life.

When it comes to clothing, Dominic is quite casual, but still looks well put-together. He'll often wear a button-up shirt or t-shirt with dark jeans and a blazer or jacket, and most of the time pair that with some lace-up vans. His colour palette is very wintery and muted, with midnight blues, forest greens, and darker greys making up the majority of Dominic's wardrobe. His style is current, yet understated, and he is never seen without his vintage brown watch.

He has no tattoos, piercings, birthmarks, or prominent scars. Dominic does have freckles scattered across his face, however, these are mostly faded now. He writes with his left hand, which according to science, indicates that he is influenced more so by the right side of the brain (which controls the creative, emotional functions, as opposed to the left, which controls logic). It has also been stated that left-handed people are more likely to have above-average intelligence, while also being somewhat clumsy.

August 9th, 1978 - Present. Mrs Hirsch, born Sienna Rose Cohen, is a Mixed Blood Witch. She was a Gryffindor at Hogwarts Scotland, after growing up in London with her large Wizarding family. Sienna is an eccentric woman, with a very feisty nature and a resilient spirit. She possesses many of the facets common of her Hogwarts house. Dom had a fairly close relationship with his mother as a child, however, they have drifted apart in recent years because of both distance and just having different interests/personalities. Thanks to her Hufflepuff mother, Sienna is a great cook, and actually owns and runs a bakery in Diagon Alley. She was never a completely nuturing and motherly person, and more of a friendly figure, due to her youthful nature. However, Sienna loves her son greatly, and it causes her great distress when she thinks about how unhappy Dominic can be. Since the passing of her husband, she has not remarried, though she has had several casual boyfriends over the years.

November 12th, 1977 - November 30th, 2007. Alfred Peter Hirsch was a Muggle, born in Essex. He grew up in an unkind family, the son of bitter, largely absent parents. However, Alfred was a funny, confident man, and much like his wife, he too would have been sorted into Gryffindor had he been a Wizard. Once he left home and became a successful accountant in London, Alfie, as everybody called him, met Sienna and eventually the two wed after several years of dating. Alfie helped his wife open her bakery, and worked on the financial end of the business. Once his wife fell pregnant, he very much looked forward to being the kind of parent his own never were. Unfortunately, his life as a father was cut short, when Alfie died in a car crash while on his way to collect a two-year-old Dominic from a playdate with a Muggle friend's child. Alfred had only just turned thirty.

e x t e n d e d f a m i l y​

Dominic has never really known much about his extended family on his father's side. He presumes that this is due to their Muggle blood, and that they may not understand or even be aware of magic. Or perhaps his father was already estranged from them, he doesn't know. On the other hand, Dom has always been in contact with his mother's family. The Cohen's are an average middle-class family, that often have get-togethers at Hanukkah and other holidays, memories that Dominic looks upon fondly. The Cohen's are a large family with several off-shoots (the two-member Hirsch family being an example), with Sienna being one of five children. Dominic has always been closest to his uncle, who was the closest thing he had to a father figure, despite only seeing him several times a year. A notable family member is Pandora Cohen, healer, and a first cousin of Dominic.

Dominic was born in Frimley Park, though he was raised in the neighbouring town of Guildford, both located in Surrey. With one parent a Witch and the other being a Muggle, Dom had the best of both words. He was particularly close to his father as a toddler, though this relationship came to an untimely end when the man passed away just several months shy of seeing Dominic's third birthday. Suddenly a widow, his mother had a difficult time adjusting to running a business, paying bills, and of course, caring for a young son. To alleviate this stress, Dominic was sent to live with his grandparents in London for a short time, though he was too young to recall this. Growing up without a father didn't have that much of a conscious impact on the boy, as he didn't really remember things ever being very different. However, he was often reminded how funny it was for a boy to know more about art than he did about cars, so you could presume that those removed knew something that Dom didn't. Despite this, his childhood was fairly happy and peaceful, apart from when his mother dated a man of questionable character in 2013. Dominic never approved of any of his potential step-fathers, and would lock himself in his room whenever one was over. An only child, many afternoons were spent like this, drawing and making up games by himself. However, he was never a particularly shy boy, so made friends soon enough, and became very active in playing outdoors until nightfall. In 2016, Dominic received his acceptance letter from Hogwarts. He was fairly excited to say the least, but the prospect of being alone in a new environment did scare him to some degree.

Dominic started at Hogwarts Scotland in 2016, eager to learn, and to be a great wizard. He was sorted into Ravenclaw, but spent little of his time living up to that title or stereotype. Instead of studying 24/7, Dominic spent the majority of his free time exploring the grounds, snooping through secret passageways and writing for the school newspaper. He was a budding little journalist. Despite this distraction, the Ravenclaw still did well in classes due to his natural intelligence and late-night cram sessions. Entering teenagehood, Dominic began to display signs of becoming angsty and emotional, strangely in contrast with times when he was overly hyper and joyful. This led to him becoming known as an "Emo F*g", and being bullied quite mercilessly. During the holidays after his third year, his mother took him to see a healer, and eventually, Dominic was diagnosed with cyclothymia. He took it quite hard, and had to be pulled out of school for a semester as he struggled to deal with his constantly shifting moods. However, soon enough Dominic was back at HS, and was able to catch up on everything he'd missed. Despite his grades being somewhat inconsistent, they were still on an overall higher level than most of his classmates. This, paired with a fairly good reputation, led to Dom being a candidate for prefect status in his fifth year (2020). However, in the end he missed out on the position, due to the high number of days he had missed. He took this loss and ran with it, trying harder than ever to stabilise himself when it came to schoolwork and extra-curricular activities, as he continued to compete with his exhausting disorder. The last few years of school were largely uneventful, with the majority of drama stemming from girl-related issues, as Dom began dating, firstly with a Hufflepuff named Alice Thompson. His circle of friends remained mostly the same. In June 2023, the young man graduated, top of his class.

r e c e n t y e a r s

After graduation, Dominic took a gap year, spending several months traveling with friends and his then-girlfriend, former Slytherin Hannah Wu. At the beginning of 2024, he was offered an internship at the New Zealand branch of the Daily Prophet. Meanwhile, Hannah had decided to end the relationship and move home to China, so as to be closer to the family that she'd been away from while at Hogwarts. He was devastated at first, but since there was now nothing stopping him, Dominic embraced the new freedom to take the job in New Zealand. However, after only a week of interning, the disillusioned young man realised that it just wasn't the job for him, and quit, deciding instead to write freelance. Despite this, Dominic liked the Wizarding community around Brightstone and Obsidian so much, that he chose to continue living there permanently, able to visit London via the floo network several times a week. Thanks to his mother owning the bakery on Diagon Alley, Dom was allowed to stay in the unoccupied flat above whenever he liked. Basically, he had two homes on opposite sides of the world, and only had to pay rent for one.

In early 2026, Dominic's cyclothymia became a major issue once again, and he was put on more medication. On one occasion, he had to be rushed to St. Mungo's due to an accidental overdose - he'd been drinking firewhiskey at a party, which did not mix well with his pills. Thanks to quick-thinking healers, Dom survived, though he was forbidden from consuming some types of alcohol. In May 2027 his bipolar disorder suffered yet another turn for the worse. He had recently ended another relationship, and was having a few very low months. His healer admitted him to inpatient care immediately, fearing that Dominic may not have been in a stable state of mind. He remained in St. Mungo's for two months, after which he became flatmates with another ex-patient - Clare Walsh, whom he had feelings for but feared to act on them, as their relationship was completely unlike that with any of his past girlfriends. As of 2028, Dominic is still splitting his time between Brightstone and London, working as a freelance journalist.

TWO His tin box. Inside the scratched and battered old biscuit tin, Dominic keeps various tokens and memories from his past. These include letters sent to him while at Hogwarts, a pink heart-shaped Valentine, some dusty shells collected during a trip to the beach, magical moving photos, among other things.

FOUR His father's wristwatch. Inherited after the passing of his father, Dominic is rarely seen not wearing the vintage dark brown timepiece. As it is a Muggle watch, Dom never uses magic to replace the battery, instead choosing to take it to the same old shop in his hometown as a way of continuing his father's little tradition.
