Isabella had survived her first week of classes and was especially pleased that the one class she had been looking forward to the most, Arithmancy, was proving to be just as good as she'd hoped. However classes weren't the main priority on this Slytherin's mind. She had her trashy tabloid-ish gossip magazine to think about, no matter how bad it was, it was something she didn't want to give up on after having just started it. So far Isabella had only managed to find out a few stories from others but still needed some ears in the Ravenclaw tower. So Isabella grabbed her Arithmancy book and took it to the library, knowing she'd have to run into a naive Ravenclaw there! After she'd settled into a seat, Isabella pulled out her text book and began reading it. Even though she was actually interested in the subject matter, she hoped that she'd find who she was looking for today and not have to read all day instead.

Lucy hung her head a little in shame. No matter how hard she tried, she just could not understand any of her subjects. History of Magic was fine, Astronomy was strange, Herbology was tricky...but Charms and Flying! They were the worst. Pouring over her book, Lucy looked at her wand and muttered under her breath, "Luu-moss, lu-mose, loo...I don't know!" She folded her arms, pouting. "It's no use!" she muttered to herself, exasperated. Lucy sighed, twirling her Ravenclaw tie around her fingers absently. How she got to be a Ravenclaw when she barely understood what on earth was going on in this place, Lucy had no idea.

Isabella had gotten quite lost in the book after some time, and it wasn't until she heard someone repeatedly trying, and failing, to perform the Lumos charm. Curious, she looked up to see a..Ravenclaw?! hanging her head in shame at the fact that she couldn't perform the charm. A smirk appeared on the Slytherin's face, the girl had practically fallen right into Isabella's arms. Quickly, she wiped the smirk off and spoke up softly, "Having trouble?" If the teenager had spoken those words in her normal tone of voice it would've been mockingly or tauntingly, however this time she had masked it so it came out as sincere and sympathetic, as if she could relate.

Lucy looked up, her face burning with shame. An older girl had noticed the fact that she was having trouble. How embarassing! "Yeah," Lucy replied, quietly. "I'm 'sposed to be a Ravenclaw...but I just feel so stupid!" she exclaimed, frustrated with herself. She quickly coloured again, realising she was rambling to a complete stranger, who probably didn't care about a naive, silly Ravenclaw. "Oh, sorry," she added, biting her lip in embarassment.

Isabella smiled reassuringly at the girl, noticing she had blushed deeply in embarrassment. Even if Isabella was looking for a potential, unsuspecting mole, the girl could still sympathize with her about feeling embarrassed at not getting spells right away. The Slytherin carefully marked the page she was reading in her Arithmancy book and closed it, to focus all her attention on the girl in front of her. " 'S okay," she said with a shrug of her small shoulders, referring to the fact that she hadn't been able to get the spell right away and her needless apology. "Not everyone gets it on the first try and the Hat never makes a mistake in sorting, so I'm sure you're smart enough for the house," she comforted the girl. She felt her wand in her pocket and was tempted to pull it out and show her how it was done, but she didn't think showing off was the right tactic in this situation. "Just try saying the incantation simply. 'Lumos' that's it, no drawn out letters or anything fancy," Isabella said with a nod to the girl, saying she should try again.

"Okay," Lucy said quietly, holding her wand carefully and preparing to try again. Now she definately didn't want to stuff it up. Not with an older girl watching her. It would be completely embarassing. "Lumos," she tried, tentatively, before trying again more confidently. "Lumos!" It was like magic...well, it was magic - Lucy's wand lit up. She gasped, staring in awe before she said the counter charm, "Nox." "Wow!" she exclaimed, before realising she must have looked a little foolish to the older girl, sounding like a slack-jawed Aussie bogan. "Sorry, um, thanks so much!" she said to the older girl, beaming at her. "I'm Lucy, by the way. Well, Lucinda," she clarified.

Isabella watched the girl with eager eyes to see if she would perform the spell right, truthfully she had never 'taught' anyone anything so she was nervous on whether or not her advice would work for her. When the girls wand finally lit up, Isabella mirrored the girl's reaction, although not quite as excited since she had been used to the spell for two years now. "Good job," she said with a smile on her face. "Are you Muggle born?" she asked curiously. She wasn't asking because of all the 'Pureblood' nonsense, she was just curious as to whether the girl grew up around magic or not, and so far she seemed like she hadn't. When the girl had introduced herself, Isabella smiled and replied, "Bella, well Isabella," she too clarified the way the girl had done. "Nice to meet you Lucy," she added.
