Playing rugby was one of Derek’s most lingering passions from before school. He was not often caught without his rugby ball in hand, and today he was actually playing with someone else. A younger student in his house who had caught the ball when Derek had accidentally thrown it a bit further from him than he had intended to. But this was actually not that bad, they were playing with it, running after it trying to stop it hitting the ground. He threw it as they ventured to the third floor and he noted it flew into the hospital wing, but given they were chasing and catching the ball, that didn’t entirely matter. He caught it as it was thrown back to him, and instantly threw it back, he didn’t even think that this was be a bad idea, that doing it near such rooms and important spaces within the school would result in something bad, he’d only broken little things before, so there was no way that Derek would break anything now. ”I’m gonna throw it long,” Derek told the boy with an excited expression and then threw the ball hard, heading into the hospital wing after to see where the ball might land.

It had been a while since Phineas had played any muggle sports, and though he'd never actually played rugby before, he felt as if he were reliving some great pre-Hogwarts memory. Indoor rugby was a new concept to the young Slytherin, but after catching Derek's ball and throwing it around a bit, he wondered why he'd never thought of it before. It was much more exciting when there was a risk of hitting someone on the head, or knocking over a statue. Somehow, the boys managed to work their way up to the third floor corridor, and into the hospital wing. Phineas didn't think they were doing anybody harm - the place was pretty empty - and anyway, what better way to liven up a boring stay in the hospital wing than with live sports? "Okay!" Phineas said, rushing ahead to give himself a head start chasing it. The ball sailed right past, bouncing a few times on the uneven floor and finally stopping as it hit the side of a vacant bed. "Nice! That went well far," he called, as he stooped to grab it. "I'm not as strong as you. All right, catch this!" Phineas grinned as he threw the ball back as hard as he could.

Professor Harrington was doing her rounds as usually when she heard a few shouts coming from the Hospital Wing as she passed. She was typically caught up with students who were injured and staying in there and she knew of none at the moment. Entering through the door she spotted two students. "What is going on here?" She asked loud enough for both to hear her as one was much closer and the other was on the other side of the wing. The two students did not sound as though they'd been arguing but one of them could be hurt and calling out for the nurse. She glanced around, no one else was the in hospital wing besides the three of them. She wondered where all the nurses could be and how they had not heard the two young boys yelling to each other.

Derek smiled happily when the ball was thrown back to him, he hadn’t had this much fun in ages, chasing after the ball himself was definitely less fun than playing with someone, playing with someone was the most fun ever. There was just an added fun of having someone else to play with that was pretty evident. He did know that playing with someone else was a lot of fun, so perhaps he needed to find more people to play rugby or just this kind of thing with. Maybe though they would play outside. Derek chased after the ball as it came back towards him, not quite managing to catch it, ”That was a perfect throw!” the boy said, but he intended to throw it even harder now too, so he took the ball and threw it hard, watching as it sailed through the air, though as he did he heard a professor speak, and in the instant of looking away didn't have time to go get the ball, watching as in the last second it sailed towards the glass cabinet hitting it hard enough to break a lot and cause it to come cascading down loudly to the ground. That wasn't good. He stared at the other boy with a surprised expression, oh no. This was bad!

Phineas beamed at Derek's compliment. He was so used to hanging out with Uno, whose idea of a compliment was just a less mean insult, that he'd almost forgotten what it felt like to actually be told he was good at something. He cheered as Derek threw the ball again - and then looked up at Professor Harrington, shocked. About half a second later there was an almighty crash as the ball sailed into a cabinet, glass exploding from the doors. Finn gawped. This was bad. "Wow, Derek, that was really irresponsible," he said quickly, giving the older boy a disapproving look. "Throwing a rugby ball in the hospital wing? Someone could have been hurt!"

Hands on her hips in a very mother-like fashion Sarah looked at both of the boys disapproving. She was completely caught off guard by the ball the larger of the two boys had thrown as it crashed into a cabinet of storage for various medicines. She gasped as she looked over the mess and back towards the boys as the younger was trying to ease his way out of trouble very obviously. "Stay put both of you, " Professor Harrington said as she pulled out her wand and as quickly as her magic allowed cleaned up the mess. Most of the medicine was lost for good, having mixed with others, tidying the mess was the best Sarah could offer to the nurses who still seemed rather absent. "Don't even think either of you will be getting out of trouble, I clearly heard you both having fun, which means Mr. Tahana was not the only one messing about inside the castle," Professor Harrington stated sternly. She was terrible at catching children and disciplining them, but it was her job, or it was her job at least to report the instance to their Head of Houses along with the children.

The boy froze upon seeing both the professor and the other boy, though hardly surprised when Phineas tried to throw him under the bus. If Derek had been quick enough and therefore quicker than him he would’ve likely done something exceedingly similar. The slytherin had sheepish expression, almost willing for the professor to just take pity on them both, he wondered what they could do to try to get out of it. Derek was pretty happy that the mess was mostly cleaned up, that they at least hadn’t forever destroyed the glass, they just had destroyed the rest of it. The thing that had been within the vials which they had destroyed. The boy was also rather eager to go and get his ball too, ”Professor, Phineas broke his arm recently, but he wanted to practice throwing the moment it was all perfectly healed up, I was just playing with him to show him how to have fun again,” the boy said with a small hopeful smile, it was clearly a bear faced lie, since Phineas had also tried to lie about it, but the truth was hardly something that he wanted to be giving up, it was clear what had happened. ”Sometimes we just can’t play outside, and the quidditch pitch is always busy,”

Phineas pouted. So they weren't allowed to have fun? It wasn't like they were disturbing anyone - and the medicine? Well, it could be replaced. Fun, on the other hand, was priceless. As Derek began to lie, Phineas quickly cradled his arm against his stomach, wincing as if he were still in pain. "It's true, Professor," he said, letting his eyes mist over for added effect. "I haven't been able to have fun for ages. Derek was only being nice to me. You wouldn't tell us off for having fun, would you?"
