MEANING

WHY
His father was the one to name him, since his mother died shortly after his birth, and she’d been raised near daintree forest in australia. Since he and her had connected over many things but he had never learned that much about her or her family, he was keen that their son carry a little bit of her with him, thus his name was Daintree, his father did make sure it was also an actual name before giving it to him, since he didn’t want his son’s name to be too ridiculous, though arguably, Daintree is still a very silly name. Daintree has never really minded his name, he is well liked and popular amongst his peers and they were always keen to be his friend so he didn’t mind have to worry about people making fun of his name. Though he wasn’t sure about his name during the first few years of his school life, he’s really grown to love it and likes the fact he’s named after a place. He has not yet been told that he was named after his mother’s birthplace as he is not yet aware of the fact that his step-mother is not his real mother. His father has never corrected him or told him otherwise at any of the points when he asked. The middle name Mars was his father’s addition, he knew that his son’s arrival into the world was a little fraught with problems and he wanted to name him after a strong god, and the one he picked was Mars, since it was also a planet. He intended to use it to talk about how his mother was always watching from the stars, but since he and daintree’s step-mother began dating when Daintree was barely a year old, he never did. The last name Vaskevold, is an old family name, his father’s ancestors date back a while but none were particularly literate and so when they moved around and were asked to write the family name this was the closest and most consistent way they figured it was spelt. Daintree likes this element of his family name. It’s just a little more unique than most. Daintree is very happy with his name, though some get confused by the surname since he has been born and raised in New Zealand, he likes it a lot.

A lot of his friends call Daintree, Dain, it’s just a shortened version of his name that usually reserved for people who know him relatively well and whom he allows to call him that. He doesn’t mind it as a nickname and will respond to it positively but most who would call him that tend to be in his close knit group of friends. People who he spends a lot of time with and whom he never had to tell what his nickname was, it just was Dain. His father has used it on a few occasions but didn’t particularly enjoy calling him that. Growing up both of his parents and his half brother referred to him as Little Tree when he was growing up as a term of endearment, “their little tree”. Daintree’s father was heartbroken at the loss of daintree’s mother but took to caring for his son with vigour. He worked from home, his work allowing him to do that, and dedicated himself to caring for Daintree. It was at time difficult because he had no idea what he was doing and tended to freak out a lot taking him to the hospital a lot where he met Daintree’s step mum. His parents from the point that they were together tailed back a lot of their worst over protective behaviour towards both children and let them grow quite independently, supporting all of the whims and interests of both children.
MOTHER
Despite being in a relationship with her Daintree’s father never learned too much about her, since she kept her magical life private and didn’t talk about it at all. Her name was Coco, she was of australian origin living near to the Daintree forest. She was a mixed blood witch who had a very close muggle friend with whom she went out with a lot, thus meeting Daintree’s father and they begun a relationship, they were not married, but had been engaged to be married at the time of Daintree’s birth and her death.
She opted to have the child at home since she knew Daintree would be magical and felt that muggle doctors wouldn’t be good enough, despite it being a very tricky pregnancy, with a number of issues, leaving her very sickly and unable to really eat. daintree was born two months early and even though he was born at home was taken to hospital. The birthing process had been pretty awful for his mother, who suffered from severe blood loss, general weakness and died some time after reaching the hospital with her child. - magic would’ve likely saved her.
STEP-MOTHER
Sarah “Roen” Vaskevold - is Daintree’s step mother/adoptive mother. She is a muggle from new zealand.
Daintree’s step mother is a doctor featuring in mental health, after her mother suffered severely from bi-polarism, which made growing up for her very difficult. She has had cancer but it was caught early enough that she has had few problems following the treatment. Her first son was born when she was living alone, having been a one night stand, and kept the baby after. She raised him alone until he was about nine years old when she met daintrees father.

Daintree has a good relationship with his family. It was during an argument that they got the first indication of Daintree’s magic, where in a moment of anger Daintree wanted to slam a door and suddenly the door slammed shut. He is very close to both of his parents, his father has cared for his son deeply since his birth. THE PLACE TO LIVE
Daintree absolutely adores the house he lives in, in the town he lives in. To him Picton, New Zealand is the perfect place to live, there is so much to so and see he doesn’t understand why anyone would want to live anywhere else. There’s always something to get up to and people to spend time with. It get a lot of tourism during the summer months but he’s always managed to just enjoy it with his friends, be able to spend time at the beach or the other activities. It’s a nice and enjoyable place to live with so many places to hang out with his friends he doesn’t understand why anyone would ever move away. It’s not maybe as busy as a city but he still thinks it’s better.
PREVIOUS HOMES
FIRST HOME: Daintree’s parents house is a large four story the largest house in the area and one that Daintree’s father had designed and built. He lives at the end of a road with a large driveway and grounds. His older brother holds parties at this place a lot and he spent some time at these events too since his brother always made sure to invite him. From the age of seven, daintree has had the whole top floor of this house to himself. He joins his family for dinner whenever they can manage it, but other than that, he doesn’t really need to venture out. He’s able to bring friends round and have them stay over. It’s large and spacious and Daintree doesn’t ever need to worry about running out of space.

HAIR STYLE
Daintree has short brown hair, he keeps it in style with what most of the other kids in his class and school have, knowing that it’s important to keep up with trends within his school, he likes the way his hair sits and the style that he keeps it in. His hair is of a dark brown colour, which is unlike the rest of the family, he knows that his brother is not his full brother, but he is the only one in his family to have brown hair, both of his parents and his brother have sandy blonde hair. He goes to the hairdresser quite often knowing that he needs to keep the hair tight and styled well. He doesn’t do much with it otherwise. He doesn’t mind the way his hair looks and he likes having slightly different hair from his family. It makes his quite distinct from the rest of his family, people always remember him as the brown haired kid belonging to his father.
HAIR HAS BEEN DYED
Daintree used to want hair just like his parents and brother, even asked his father if it could be changed when he was very young, but he had grown out of this feeling and now really likes his hair and how it looks. He would only now change it if that was what a lot of other kids his age were doing so. Otherwise it is not an interest that he has. The whole process of constantly putting it in his hair and the upkeep of it would likely be too much effort for him to contend with, more effort than he could care about. He likes his hair the way it is and he would do little to change it now.
EYE COLOUR
Daintree has a muted blue colour of eyes, this is something he mostly shares with his father though his eye colour is a little different. Both of his parents have blue eyes of differing shades and he imagined that he got something between the two. He likes his eye colour a lot, it’s not the brightest colour but it suits him well and it gives him something distinct. It’s a nice colour he finds and one that is sure that not everyone could pull off so he is happy to be the one to get it. He thinks that he can both pull it off and that it really suits him. Daintree would never change his eye colour and would be disappointed if his eye colour ever changed or if something was to happen which would cause them to change.
BIRTHMARKS/FRECKLES/SCARS
Daintree has a number of freckles dotted around his faces they are fairly easy to spot and easy to pick up on. He doesn’t mind that they look like that, he likes how they make his face a little more unique and different since there are no two people with the same sort of face as he’s got. He had a few scars on the rest of his body, notably on his left side where he once fell from his bike going at pretty high speeds and landing badly on some gravel. These have largely faded but are still obvious for people looking at the exact part of his body that they are found on. He has a few birthmarks but none of them are particularly big or of note.

Having always been energetic and active, Daintree has a slim body type. He stopped eating meat when he was nine years old which he swears down has made him better and more active, he believes it has helped him be leaner and slimmer. He’s very relaxed about his body but works hard at sports and other energetic thing that he works towards being slim. Daintree used to want hair just like his parents and brother, even asked his father if it could be changed when he was very young, but he had grown out of this feeling and now really likes his hair and how it looks. The whole process of constantly putting it in his hair and the upkeep of it would likely be too much effort for him to contend with, more effort than he could care about. Daintree has a muted blue colour of eyes, this is something he mostly shares with his father though his eye colour is a little different. Both of his parents have blue eyes of differing shades and he imagined that he got something between the two. He likes his eye colour a lot, it’s not the brightest colour but it suits him well and it gives him something distinct. It’s a nice colour he finds and one that is sure that not everyone could pull off so he is happy to be the one to get it. He thinks that he can both pull it off and that it really suits him. Daintree has a number of freckles dotted around his faces they are fairly easy to spot and easy to pick up on. He had a few scars on the rest of his body, notably on his left side where he once fell from his bike going at pretty high speeds and landing badly on some gravel. His party started and ended early, with some staying over but it was a pretty big deal for him, he had worked very hard on it and he had a very good time, they all hung out and drank juice, played video games and other games and mingled with the older party, he has very fond memories of the sort and had intended to have this party every year, because it makes him feel so good and so well liked by everyone around him, people were talking about it for ages and he just liked how all of that felt. Daintree always liked the idea of being involved and active within his school and he thrives with his friends around him so this was the perfect event for him.

Agruably the most difficult or dark day of his life so far has been receiving his hogwarts letter and everything that followed that. After the person had come to tellhis family about what it all meant, a pretty severe argument occurred, Daintree was adamant that he wasn’t going, that he would not be going his place was there with his friends, at his school amongst people who he had never met or seen before, people who he would have to start from stretch. There was nothing in him that endeared him to that place and he was pretty adamant that he wouldn’t go, he didn’t expect his whole family to disagree with him and for them to all think he should go, to think of the opportunity this was providing him. Daintree was pretty used to getting his way, that he was really surprised when his father didn’t step down on it. Daintree usually was able to make everyone else see that he really didn’t want to do something and get himself out of it, but this was just one occasion when he didn’t manage it at all. He stormed off to his section of the house and stayed there for two whole days before he relented and agreed that he was going, but his protest should be notes and that if he didn’t like it, he’d be able to switch out and come home. He’s had a pretty easy childhood otherwise so this to most would be nothing but in his household it was pretty significant.

BASIC PERSONALITY
Daintree’s primary desire is to be popular, he likes being surrounded by friends and knowing his place amongst others. He’d never struggled to make friends before, having been in a position where he knew a lot of the people since they were exceedingly young and being in a family and fincail place where people wanted to be his friend. Daintree is very keen to have a place in the world to have a clear set of where he should be in relation to others and will change some patterns in his behaviour to suit it. He likes getting his own way, and can be quite stubborn when he wants something badly enough. There isn’t a lot that he wants that badly that he’d never back down over. Daintree is loyal to his friends, those people whom he considers his close friends, his vote group he is very loyal and generous to, giving them his time and occasionally money. He expects loyalty back but knows that he’ll get it from those people. He can do things for other and be friendly to them if he knows that it’ll in the long run benefit him, like befriending someone who has a lot of their own friends, or someone whose close to a certain teacher so to get in more favourably with them. Daintree likes to pass his classes but will never work too much harder than that, he aims to be liked by professors but never have to do too much work, he liked being considered cool and will work hard to appear cool, he also likes appearing casual and uncaring but he tries hard to achieve both of these. Daintree will become focused when he has a goal in mind but these can vary. He’s keen to start and try new things but will only stay on these things if he really likes them, otherwise he won’t bother with them. Daintree will always give people and things a try-even magic- because he thinks that’s more fair. He likes sports a lot and is more athletically driven than he is academically driven. He desires to belong, and struggles when he doesn’t know if he does. He’ll go out of his way to make friends in places because he thinks making friends is the best thing he can do. Friends can help him achieve anything. He can be occasionally cruel and a bit of the bully if something doesn’t go his way or if people start trying to pick on him, he won’t easily rise but he’ll fight to defend his friends and his own honour on occasion. He has an outgoing personality but he just doesn’t like the idea of being alone.
