Mercury had been terrified but also intrigued by the mention of the Forbidden Forest. As she sat outside the trees' boundaries, she tried peering past the fog. Even though there was still some sun out and it wasn't quite time to go in for dinner, Mercury couldn't help but be drawn to the forest. She would catch the light glistening off the leaves or even see a few blow across the ground. As it drew her in, she noticed some movement behind one of the trees. It had to be a trick of her mind, but then, she saw it again. Was it an animal, or maybe another student?

Mercury stood up in her spot and didn't bother to look if anyone else was around but kept walking towards the forest, feeling a breeze blow against her face as she kept walking towards the trees. It was almost like she had tunnel vision where she saw the thing move in the trees until she heard a loud caw as birds flew from the tops of trees. Gasping, she closed her eyes tight and then opened them, seeing nothing moving anymore.

Leah had been instantly intrigued about the forbidden forest. It was as if the professors were just asking for curious students to tempt their fate. She was no exception and apparently she wasn't alone either. She had just come to explore the grounds, at least that was what she told herself. But she had gone farther and farther, knowing the forest was just around the corner. The wall of trees seemed to almost appear out of nowhere when she realized how foggy it had gotten. The weather was still cool and she hugged her robes around herself a bit tighter. The other girl seemed to be focused on the trees and Leah kept her footsteps as quiet as she could as she approached since she didn't want to scare her. Eventually she was only a few paces away when she heard a loud caw and the sudden sounds of birds taking off from the trees. "Merlin's beard!" she exclaimed without thinking when the noise startled her. Her heart beat rapidly in her chest and she let out a shaky breath. "That nearly scared me to death." she said laughing again and relieved it had just been birds and not a professor jumping out to catch them.

Mercury had barely opened her eyes when she heard a noise behind her and looked around, seeing a girl who just appeared, out of nowhere. The Ravenclaw looked back at the woods. She had what her mothers called a "vivid imagination," and it felt like she was always seeing things that no one else had, ever since she was little. It was almost like tunnel vision, and while she thought that it might be one of those moments, she was a little relieved to know the other girl had seen it too. Or at least, the bird. "You saw that?" she asked. She recalled the girl from sorting but didn't remember her name. Pointing towards the forest, Mercury looked back at the bottom of the trees. "There's something in there."

Leah was still laughing nervously here and there but gave the girl an odd look when she asked if she had seen the birds. She was about to laugh off her question but she didn't. There was something about they way the other girl looked legitimately unsettled, and the fact she was glancing at the base of the trees, that made Leah shudder. And it wasn't from the cool or damp in the air. "The birds?" she asked finally, just to make sure they were on the same page. But the girl's next words sent chills up her spine. This time Leah did laugh again, because if she didn't she was tempted to turn heel and run back to the castle. She didn't want to leave the other girl alone but she was making it very hard to feel brave about now. "Of course there's something in there." she said, trying to sound calm and brave even with a waver in her voice. "It's a forest and there's....animals in there."

ooc: sorry it took so long to respond

Mercury kept staring at the trees as the girl commented on what they saw. She knew there were animals and whatever else the professors didn't want them to see that lived in the forest, but it was just a little unsettling what Mercury thought she saw. While she couldn't put it into words, whatever was there felt unnatural. But then again, she was unnatural. Witches and wizards weren't natural, were they?

Turning towards the girl, she crossed her arms in a protective stance, briefly recognizing the girl from sorting. "Yeah, animals. That's what I saw," Mercury added quickly. She started to walk back up towards the castle as she heard another bird cawing in the distance.

Leah's smile gradually fell as her sense of dreed grew. Even as the other girl agreed with her she didn't find it comforting in the slightest. "Well what are you doing out here?" she asked curiously and found the sound of her voice made everything seem a little more normal. "Were you going to go in? I don't think that's allowed." Leah said as if that was going to stop her. She had every intention of going into the trees but now she was questioning herself and was inclined to wait for a sunny day when everything didn't feel so ominous. "My name is Leah by the way. You're a first year too right? What house are you in again?" she could tell she was rambling and had to stop to take a breath.
