Costume Contest: Winners

Even though he was out of costume, Gabriel was left with a sliver of Halloween spirit. He wished he'd had an excuse to dress up like a dementor again. A week had passed before the teaching staff could decide on the winners of the costume contest. By that time, Gabe had forgotten who the victors were and what they had been. Thank Merlin he'd written it down.

Clearing his throat and standing up, the Headmaster addressed the breakfast crowd.

"Your attention, please," he stated, "the moment has come to announce the winners of this year's costume contest." Holding up a scrap of parchment, he continued:

"The award for Cutest Costume goes to Sidney Carver as King of the Wild Things..."

"Tinky Winky the Purple Teletubby, a.k.a. Adam Simons, wore HNZ's Funniest Costume..."

"Most Original Costume goes to Professor Ava Sparkles as a love heart..."

"The costume that scared our robes off was Quincy Ashe Cavell's Burning Girl..."

"And last but not least, Best Costume goes to Dymetris Kozlov, who was a blue guy- not a smurf, but an Avatar." The Headmaster wasn't sure whether or not magical students would recognize either of these muggle references.

Gabe waited for the somewhat healthy round of applause to finish before returning to his kippers and eggs. "Starting this year, we'll be awarding house points to the winners. That'll be fifty points to Gryffindor, fifty to Hufflepuff, fifty to Slytherin, and an extra hundred to Hufflepuff for Kozlov's Best Costume." The dark-haired wizard smiled at the crowd. "Thank you to all who participated in this year's festivities. The awards are located on the Fourth Floor in the Trophy Room."

Dymetris sat in the lower part of the Hufflepuff table, eating away and actually conversation as much as he could with Jeremy just sitting a table away. With a fork, almost stuffed in his mouth, stuffing filled on of his cheeks, did the boy stop eating in order to focus to the headmaster up front.

It was a week or so after Halloween, he forgot he put himself in the contest they were hosting that night. To busy stuffing his mouth with new treats of sorts, and trying to have a pleasant evening with Jeremy and Sapphire it totally vanished from his mind the entire evening. When the headmaster announced the winning of contest, he gave Jeremy a puzzle look.

"What contest is he talking about?" he asked his friend, though he realized after the names was mention of costume, it click right away what the headmaster was saying. Getting back to his food and the talk of a certain professor in DADA Dymetris choke when he heard his name. "I won? Woow that's pretty...awesome" he beam with a smile, as his house mate cheered for the house point earn. "And to think my parents were inspired by something they had no clue what it was" he laughed.

Adam hadn't really been paying attention to what the headmaster had been saying, he was too busy eating and talking with his friends at the Slytherin table. It wasn't until he heard Tinky Winky that he looked up. He had won funniest costume in the costume contest. He gulped down the food he had been eating and looked around at the faces of his house mates, he knew it had been a funny costume and it had been meant to be a joke. The thing was when he had entered the costume contest he had never believed he would win anything. Glancing at his girlfriend he was glad to see she was beaming. Some of the other Slytherin's didn't look as happy with his win, but her opinion was the only one that really mattered to him.

Adam smiled, "I guess it was worth almost dyeing of heat exhaustion then." He chuckled a little, the costume had been a bit warm for his taste.
