Things with the Sorting Hat had not gone the way Nikola had hoped, and so now he found himself in the same house as his cousin, and apparently, the same house as numerous weirdos. his father had warned him against listening to rumours and gossip, and Nikola would have agreed, if it weren't for the fact that he had walked in on a pair of students playing with what appeared to be taxidermies creatures. So that was fantastic. Eretria had been fortunate enough to get into Hufflepuff, though he was miserable that she hadn't managed a last ditch effort and find herself placed in Ravenclaw. Things would be more tolerable with his friend, but perhaps it was for the best that she wasn't in Ravenclaw. After all, Nikola knew he wouldn't get sucked into the absurd natures of his housemates, but he wasn't so sure when it came to Eretria.
The pair were walking the Second Floor Corridor, inspecting their new home. After spending the last month living with his uncle, Nikola had learned a lot about the intricate nature of paint charming and was quite impressed with the quality of the artworks on display. He was sure his uncle would find some flaw in them, as he seemed to be able to find flaws in everything. He had just spent the last ten minutes expressing his disappointment about Ravenclaw to Eretria, so once his complaints finally ran out, it was time to do the polite thing and see how she was settling into her house. "What do you like about Hufflepuff so far?"

Ere was sad that she and Nikola were not in the same house. She honestly hadn't really expected that they could fool the hat and based on the research that Nikola had done into how the hat sorted people, she had expected they would be separated. She would have been surprised if they had managed to both get into the same house, but she knew that they were both quite different people. Where as she was mostly quite shy and reserved of her opinions with strangers (well, her opinions mostly stayed firmly in her brain since she only ever voiced those she shared already with Nikola as she was there as his support and not his opposition) Nikola was definitely the more heavily opinionated of the two... unless he was trying to express his opinions to his father. All of this was what she heard from Nikola though, because one never argued in polite company, namely guests, and so were it not for Nikola telling her of his frustrations, she would have been quite ignorant to the matter. She'd been living with her brother for a while, since they'd decided they would be attending Hogwarts in New Zealand. After all, her brother had homes in many countries and had spent a month in New Zealand to get her more settled in. He would be back during the break this year as well over Christmas so she didn't have to go all the way home, though she knew she would be spending most of the time with Amara, and her niece and nephew Haela and Theodre, named after her father. She didn't know if she believed in naming children after live family members, but that was something that people did on occasion as it turned out. She had listened for ages to Nikola's complaints about his new house and agreed with all of it. Taxideries with first years? Merlin, that didn't sound right at all. She knew some people could be strange, but that seemed very extreme to her. She was glad she wasn't there. "All of the girls in my dorm seem quite friendly," She said, still impressed with his handle on her native Catalan. It was awkward and formal, but it was still much better than her French, Italian or English combined. "One of the girls in my dorm has taken over one complete side of the dorms with plants though... I do hope none of them suffer allergies, it seems a bit inconsiderate to do that," she frowned. She didn't think that Rosemarie meant for it to come across that way, but it was certainly how it seemed to her. "Another girl has given her wand a nickname... Lightbright, I think she said..." She didn't know that was something people did, but... apparently Lenora did.

Jai hated the new year. He hated the new semester. It was always around this time that trouble for him came about and at this point in time, it was frankly getting frustrating. He was already in his fourth year, and every semester there was always, someone, someone bumping into him. It was not pleasant. Jai had taken to checking corners at the known busy hours in the castle, such as start and end of class hours and meal times. He was not going to be calling it paranoia. Honestly, Jai wouldn't have been walking around the castle this early in the year if it weren't for the fact that he had promised to meet up with Tizi to practice for the upcoming Quidditch tryouts, but they had to study at the library for at least half an hour. Coming up from the dungeons, Jai had decided to switch staircases at the second floor since there weren't many people going that way. He really, really should have expected that his luck with corridors ain't all that great. As soon as he rounded the corner, he almost bumped into a girl, a younger one. One moment of indecision and Jai quickly sidestepped to avoid bumping into her. Wrong side. Before he could even regain complete sense of balance, he managed to bump into her companion. "Sh*t!" he managed to blurt out as he fell. "Every f***ing semester, I swear to Merlin, it's people-bumping spree," he mumbled in Italian as he got up quickly and looked at who he managed to bump into this time to see if he knocked them over. Mild concession that at this time he was also at fault, but really at this point he just wanted to blame and curse at whoever decided that it was fun seeing him bump into people every single semester. "I'm sorry. Are you alright?" he turned to the boy he bumped into that he eventually realized was his cousin.

It was fortunate that they were interrupted, it seemed, because Nikola knew he was probably going to end up saying something harsh about the nickname one of Eretria's dorm mates had given her wand. He had never had a compulsion to name his wand (not that he had had it for very long), but if he ever did find himself desperate to name it, he was definitely going to put in a bit more effort. 'Lightbright' was just... something he was sure his niece would call a wand, and seeing as she was nearly two, it was excusable. He was in the process of passing judgement when he was nearly knocked over but was able to save himself. The other (older) boy wasn't so lucky, however.
He heard the Italian before getting a proper look at the owner of the voice, but he didn't actually need to see his face to know who it was. Nikola had seen Jai not three weeks ago at their uncle's home, which had been a complete disaster in Nikola's eyes. Everyone was naturally better behaved simply because everyone suspected Zio Alessio would turn them all into toads if they left even a smudge on his polished floors, but that didn't mean Nikola hadn't found himself wishing he had the power to turn his cousins into toads. "Jai," he greeted, looking up at his older cousin and wondering if he needed glasses. "I'm fine. This is Eretria," he added, gesturing to the Hufflepuff beside him. Of his cousins at this school, Jai was probably the most tolerable, not that the bar was particularly high. "Are you alright? You should probably be more careful." Nikola had no idea what he had just started.
