it was the 31st of january and as far as briar knew her birthday was either almost over or almost starting. either way by this time to morrow she would certainly be 17 and old enough to do magic outside of school, which meant she could travel where she wanted once she had passed her apparation, and many things that she usually did manually would be a lot easier.
Despite classes, prefect duties and quidditch she had managed to find time this evening to celebrate. she had a huge box of food hovering beside her as she made her way down to the lawn. the sun was still up but sinking quickly, though it was a couple of hours before curfew. once she had reached a nice spot right on the edge of the forest in case Aspen wanted to show her face as she couldn't leave the trees, and briar wasn't going to lead a bunch of students into the forest. she had matured a lot over the last year, some ways obvious and some not so much. The prefect picked the spot that the fire was going to be and made a ring of stones, then not bothering with wood and splints used her wand to cast the bluebell flames which didn't require a fuel. she then set up some food on a table she had brought down earlier. there was a selection, from very rustic dishes she had eaten growing up, to cakes and lollies. many of the dishes contained meat like the, burgers, and the stew which she put on the fire to keep hot, some were fruit based, and some sweet. she had not celebrated her birthday before but this year she decided se would as it was a big one, and she wanted a night of normalcy compared to the madness se had been caught in recently. she waited to see who would come and join her.

Lola skipped down to the lawn when she heard that Briar would be celebrating her birthday there. She liked the girl a lot even though they didn't talk much. She wasn't all that surprised though. Lola was a third year who acted like she had drank seven pounds of sugar and followed it with a gallon of coffee, and this was just when she woke up in the morning. She wore a pair of red checkered coveralls and white knee high socks for the occasion. Lola ran over to where she saw the bluebell flames and smiled. "Hello there Ms. Rowan, thank you for inviting me down here and Happy Birthday!" She cried excitedly. Lola tended to get loud when she wound up and at the moment Lola felt like she was going to pop at any moment.

Madlyn slipped on her last maroon shoes and was finished getting ready for Briar's get together. She would've had gone ahead of time to help Brair set up, only she had this spare of the moment to wrap Brair's gift. Something told her this camera would come in handy some days, she wanted her sisters to have a bit memories recorded since her departure to real world was coming soon. What else is neat then recording memories with a camera? She gift wrap an old newspaper, when done she put the gift inside her red bag.

She left the common room and said her goodnight to the early birds. The part giant girl walked down the flights of steps, reaching the school exit and into the open air she sauntered out greeting the warm mild night. She walk over to the lawn, Briar was there with a smaller girl. Madlyn recognize her around the common room, Lola was it? Here memories was faint, normally around this time she be clueless in other words lazy to make connections. "Evening Briar, Happy Birthday!" she casually tap her head and hug her gently. She look over the little set up she brought tonight, it look scrumptious. "The meat must be your new diet?!"

Briar had only just finished setting up when someone joined her. It was Lola one of the younger students that she had invited, se had invited her as they had met a few times before but she had been very nice to her when the news of her affliction had come out and she wanted to thank her. plus she seemed rather cool. After the rather loud greeting Briar smiled. "I am glad that you could come Lola. and thank you Its been pretty good so far" she said. by the time she had finished talking someone else had arrived. "Hello Madlyn." she said to her sister giving her a light hug back. glad that she was around her seventeenth birthday wouldn't be the same without her. "you know lola don't you, i am pretty sure you met in the common room, lola you know Madlyn don't you?" she said, she had been with Madlyn when she had met lola but it was a few years ago and she wasn't sure if they would remember. her eyes followed Madlyns sight to the food. she chuckled at the question. "maybe, i have been eating a lot more meat this year than before." she said. then added in an undertone so Lola wouldn't hear "don't worry its all cooked, the house elves wouldn't let be bring anything raw out even if i had wanted to." she chuckled. before picking up a burger "Help yourself" she said before taking a bite, it was good.

Minoas was thankful that it was Briar's birthday. He needed a reason to drag himself off the library and the studying he had to do for history of magic lesson. Furthermore, he had never been to a bonfire and after everythinh had happened with the poster incident, everyone needed this to relax and get it out of their minds. He left earlier from the library and headed first to the common room to dress up and get her present. It wasn't something extraordinary, although Minoas loved it. He had a quick look at his outfit in front of the mirror and tried to fix his hair a bit before leaving for the great lawn.

The blue flames dancing in the distance, indicated the location of the party and soon he saw the celebrate along with Lola and Madlyn. "Happy Birthday!!!" he beamed at Briar before giving her the present. "It's nothing special." he added as he was handing to her the little cube box that contained a sneakoscope. "Hello Madlyn, hello Lola!" he greeted the other two girls with a smile. "Wow who's gonna eat all this?" he commented in a teasing mood when he noticed the big amount of food that Briar had brought with her. "Bluebell flames. It reminds me of that night in the forbidden forest with the acromantulas." he said as he had tried to use them to scare them away.

Briar saw someone else join the group. It was Minoas, the boy she had taken in as her little brother. "thank you" she said as he wished her happy birthday, and she she thanked him before taking the gift. she opened it. the sixth year wasn't quite sure what it was it looked like a spinning top. and it was emitting a low whistle. she would work it out later. "wow cool, thanks Minoas" she said. putting it in her bag which she kept with her everywhere. she was glad that minoas knew the girls it was easy when people knew each other. "I was hopeing that you would be able to give us a hand with the food. the elves gave me enough to feed the whole house i think." she said. taking a bite form her burger. "you used them against the spiders didn't you? hopefully we wont need them for that tonight." she said laughing. before taking another bite form the burger, it tasted good, the meat was juicy, the cheese was melting into it, ant the salad was crisp and the sauce was smoky, perfect.

Madlyn looked down the smaller Gryffindor. “No I don’t remember her much, there’s too many of us” she laughed light heartily, this whole scenery was playing out well. She couldn’t wait till she was seventeen. It will the day she was consider an adult in the wizarding world and some parts of the muggel world. She would be moving out her mum and into her own little (or big) flat, she would be able to decorate however she liked it. It will be a grand day indeed. “It’s nice to meet you Lola” she waved from above, rather than bending over to shake her hand. “Well you have a good reason to be eating meat more meat, still looks good” she picked two burgers and some fruits on a plastic plate. Thank Mother Nature she ate a little for lunch, she will have enough room to eat now!

“Hi Minoas, don’t you look awesome!” Madlyn greeted Briar’s little kid brother. She walked over to the bonfire and sat down on the ground, more on a boulder rather than breaking into a big log. She bite into her first burger, the melting cheese string on the inside covering the patty meat in a neat way. She took several bites, watching Briar and Minoas. “I got you a present too! I think you will need it now” she pushed her bag and pointed inside at it. “Dig inside and grab it, its wrap in old newspaper”

Andrea just finished preparing everything for Briar's 17th birthday. Her invitation just arrived and she was psyched. Not only because she adored Briar but also because she was having a great day. Andrea walked quietly towards the Great Lawn holding a small box. She also just finished wrapping her gift for Briar and she wasn't quite sure if she would like it. It was a charm bracelet she made. She wanted Briar to be happy today despite of her secret being revealed just a few days ago. When she reached the Great Lawn she saw Briar and a couple more people surrounding her and eating lots of delicious food. Andrea took a deep breath and walked nervously towards them. She was a bit introverted by the fact that her mother just dyed her hair blonde a few weeks ago when it was still holiday. She was afraid Briar might be mad because she dyed her hair in a young age. When Andrea reached them she said "Hello Everyone!" and walked quietly towards where Briar was sitting and said " Hello Briar! Happy Birthday!" an gave her a hug. "This is for you" She said nervously as she reached her hand and handed Briar the small box. After doing so she walked towards the table of food, grabbed a cupcake (her favorite) and took a seat next to a familiar looking boy.

Minoas was glad that Briar looked like she had liked his gift. It wasn't something super cool but with the little savings he had it was the best and most useful gift he could think of. He had a look what the rest had preferred to eat, to see what was good and took a plastic plate. "The house elves are always excessive. Ask them for a toothpick and they will brought you a whole forest." he joked as he was filling his plate with some burgers and fruits. He knew that Briar was an expert in picking the best of the best fruits. "Don't worry." he said as he had a seat next to the girls, on a log, to enjoy the magical flames. "If they join the party at least we'll have to feed them." he continued about the acromantulas, pointing at the loaded-with-food table, that was floundering under their weight.

"You looking good too!" he complimented back Madlyn, Briar's best friend. He was in a particularly good mood although he wasn't really enjoying his classes that term. The quidditch match though was close and that was enough to make him hyper for days before the event. He decided though not to talk about quidditch today, except if Briar was going to bring the topic on the table. "You'll need mine as well. A sneakoscope is always useful although sometimes it warns you even for the most unimportant matters." he spoke as Briar was unwrapping Madlyn's present, remembering all those times that his own sneakoscope was warning him every time his cat Chewy, was stalking him and chasing his robes' hem.

"Hi there! I'm Minoas!" he greeted the familiar newcomer. He then had a bite from his burger as well. It was indeed devine, feeling that pleasant, tickling sensation inside his cheeks. "They might be extravagant but they know how to satisfy a wizard's appatite." he commented about the house elves before having another bite.

"Oh Dear, Oh Dear. I hope I'm not that late. the Gryffindor thought while running through the corridor and headed to the Great Lawn. She just read her invitation coming from Briar, it was her seventeenth birthday. Sui Chin didn't know that after her birthday would be hers too, which made it difficult for her to think of a gift at a short notice. The day before Briar's day, Sui Chin decided to make her some jewelry. A charm bracelet to be specific, though it wasn't those girly looking charms. It was specially for Briar, it wasn't a rainbow themed that her cousins wanted her to make back in China. The charm bracelet has a black wolf in the middle of it, which matched the black and silver scheme she was going for. Sui Chin hoped that her friend would like her gift, she wrapped it in a ruby red velvet box as it was the only thing she had at the moment other that the pink and purple polka dot box.

As she arrived the party in her pink themed outfit, Sui Chin scanned the place with her eyes and noticed a few strangers. All of them Gryffindors though, still she continued to approach them with a friendly smile and started to find the birthday girl. After a few steps, she found Briar entertaining her guest. When there was an open space and with the right timing she poked Briar in the back on shoulder. "Happy Birthday Briar!, Hope I'm not so late?" she said quite worried. Still she continued to flash her warm smile at Briar and everyone there. While waiting she noticed piles of food for them obviously, they were lots of meat which was quite uncomfortable for her. Just last year Sui Chin decided to be a vegetarian, not that she hated meat or anything but because she witnessed how animals were slaughtered in front of her. Then again she knew that Briar now was a werewolf, which she found out last week while passing by the corridors. She didn't had time to talk to Briar about it, but hoped that they could get a chance to chit-chat like their freshmen years.

Briar nodded when madlyn said she had a good reason to eat meat. "it does take quite a bit to beat a good steak" she said. smiling and picking up some grapes to eat, slightly ironic she knew, but she still loved her fruit too. "we probably have enough food to feed the spiders if they do show" she said chuckling.
Briar had never had birthday presents before. so to resieve so many this year fom her friends was a real pleasant surprise. she was grateful for minoas' gift. she heard as he said what it was, and she remembered seeing them in a shop and asking what they were "I am sure a sneekascope will be useful, but its a good thing i'm out as a wolf, or it would be going off all the time" she said. a few moments later she heard Madlyn say that she had got her something. the took the bag and slowly started to look for the thing wrapped in news paper. It wasn't hard to find it was near the top. slowly she drew it out and passed Madlyn her bag back. carefully she unwrapped the gift and a camera was left in her hands . "Madlyn, you didn't have to." she said giving her sister a hug in thanks. before taking it and having a look at how it worked, she had never used a camera before.
however before she could figure out how to take a picture she saw a blonde girl coming down from the castle. she tried to think of who it was. it wasnt until the girl got close that she realised that ti was andrea. "Hey andrea, I like the new hair" she said in greetings to the first year. as she made her way over. she was a litle suprised at all the hugs shewas getting as Andrea huged her anw wished her a happy birthday. "wow, thankyou" she said as the girl gave her a gift, she really hadnt expected anything. she opened the box. "Its really pretty thankyou" she said, when she saw the cute charm bracelet. she wasnt sre when she would wear it but she thought that it was nice, and any thought was much appreciate (as long as it was a bad thought) she tried to put it on, taking a few moments until she got the catch to hold it.
once it as don she felt a poke in her shoulder and turned around in surprise to see Sui Chin. "Hello Sui Chin. Its great to see you, you're not late at all, come and join the party" she said. gesturing the food and seats. she then realised that she wasn't sure who the girl knew, as she wasn't generally as sociable as her and the others. "this is madlyn, Minoas, Lola, and Andrea, Everyone Sui chin" she said as means of introduction. she hoped that they would all get on well, they seemed to be so far, all of the lions got on fairly well. so they should do great.

Sui Chin felt a bit embarrassed when she noticed Briar's friend gave her the same gift like her, a charm bracelet. Though she guessed that the girl didn't made hers, as it looked quite familiar. It was easy to buy any charm bracelet but it was hard to make one, at least that what she knew. The last time she had saw Briar was when she was dressed as a fudged boy. They didn't had enough time to catch up do the rude girl who barged in their conversation. Still that didn't matter now, as she's here and ready to make some new friends. It's been a while since she had new friends, the fact that she had been busy for some time. First year was so much different than today, and at times how she could live back. Then again, no regrets just love.

"Whew, good to know. Thanks for inviting me! Sure." she replied still smiling at them. Sui Chin had no idea who were there, as she only knew sixth and seven years around the school. Due to some HM duties, she didn't had time to socialize with other students like before. Then there's her travelling with her family, since his father were assigned to different countries, as for her mother who just stayed in China."Hello Madlyn, Minoas, Lola and Andrea! Pleasure to meet you all." Sui Chin greeted them as she waved her right hand towards them. She felt the box poking her arms, so she pulled out her gift from her pocket and showed it to Briar. "Oh, I almost forgot. This is for you Briar, I made it especially for you. Hope you'll like it. she said as she handed the red box to Briar. Sui Chin really hoped that she would like it even though one of her friends already gave one, still she placed every thought of care when she made the bracelet.

Briar surprised her with the amount of friends she had in school. It’s like all of a sudden the girl was Miss popular. She liked that a lot. It goes to show you that the rumor spread did nothing but made her sister shine in a whole new light. “I thought you appreciate taking pictures since next year will be your last year” Madlyn embraced her quickly, another one of her friends came, Briar had to be good hostess at her own party. “Hey it’s a pleasure to meet you” she waved at Andrea and Sui. More Gryffindors were joining them it feels like it tonight, if any more of them came it will be a Gryffinor celebration.

“Here let me get that” she stood up, setting her plate below her. She took the camera from Briar. “See you wind this up and you click the button right here” she demonstrated. Briar may have been occupied at the moment with her friends; it wasn’t going to stop Madlyn from taking pictures. She aimed for Briar and Sui, the camera shutter as she pushed down the button. She’d wind it again, click away at Briar’s guest, enjoying catching them at unexpected moments. “It’s good for memories”

The young professor was disliking that term a lot. He was dying from boredom as he didn't have any classes to teach and he was trying to spend time away from the restriction of his office. He had spent the previous day with his younger cousin Minoas, giving him some hints and tips about the upcoming quidditch match that he was going to participate. He had learnt from him that Briar, the girl that had met once in the quidditch pitch was going to have her birthday. Icarus had decided to make an appearance at her little party and wish for her birthday. He was feeling slightly uncomfortable as all her guests were going to be mostly students. He wished that at least for today they weren't going to see him as a professor.

As he was making his way to the party, he noticed that a bunch of students had already arrived. It wasn't difficult to locate they party as the bluebell flames were like a red flag in the distance. "Happy Birthday Rowan!" he wished to her with a broad smile. He had decided to keep calling her Rowan, he liked it better that way. "Here is a little present for you. I thought you mind need this." he said and handed over a flat white box, decorated with small golden broom shapes. Inside the box was placed a broom compass. The only thing he knew about the girl besides her love about dangerous and wild things was her passion about the wizards sport. "I see that the latest events haven't brought you down. You even decided to celebrate your birthday out in public, now that's the spirit!" he referred to the recent exposal of her werewolf secret as he waited her to introduce him to her guests. He only knew his cousin and he was familiar with the first year as she was in his class last term.

briar smiled as sui chin joined the party, she hadn't realised that there were so many people who she called friends. it was really starting to feel like a party. she finished her burger when Sui Chin greeted everyone and was surprised when her dorm mate had given her a box. getting used to the idea of presents she opened it gently and saw that there was another bracelet inside. it was really pretty and she loved the wolf face on it. "wow, its amazing, and you said you made it." she said trying once again to put the two bracelets on. she wouldn't wear either of them often as she didn't want to break them, and what she was usually up to was probably going to be a little tough on them. "would someone mind giving me a hand to fasten these" she said, she could see how the clasps went, but she just didn't have enough hands to put them on. she was going to wear Shu Chins on the right hand and Andrea's on the left.
"I think you are right about the pictures" she said. what the others didn't know was that the walls of the cavern where she stayed on nights of a full moon had pictures on them, not of her friends but of one of the previous occupants friends, she wasn't sure who but she had thought that the girl in one of them was a younger professor Kingsley. she had wanted to add her own but she only had a few photos, and had only put one up. now it looked like she would be able to add some more in. she heard a click as Madlyn managed to get the thing working. "so its just wind and click, that sounds simple enough. I think i know where some of the pictures will be going" she said smiling. just then someone else joined the party, she was a little surprised that he had decided to come but glad that he had, she liked Icarus when se had met him on the quidditch pitch, and she had told Minoas if he saw him he could invite him along. besides it was always useful to have a professor around. "Hello there Stratis, glad that you could make it" she said, it was odd calling him icarus in front her younger friends, especially andrea who would have known him as professor Stratis when she had him for flying, but she didn't want to call him professor either so she followed his lead and just used his last name. he handed over a box before she could introduce everyone, the decoration was nice, little brooms, but the flying professor knew she loved flying herself. "thank you" she said opening the box and saw the broom compass inside "I am sure that will come in useful on my next adventure" she said. she smiled at the mention of the events. "why would i let a small thing like that bring me down, i still have my friends. if anything its built me up" she said before introducing him to everyone. "so you know Minoas obviously, and andrea was probably in your class. and theres Madlyn, Lola, and Sui Chin" she said gesturing to each of them. "everyone this is Stratis" she said before getting a party pie, and some salad on her plate and starting to eat. not sure what to do now most people were here.

Andrea watched as Briar opened the small box she handed her earlier. Andrea was a bit introverted about the birthday gift. She wasn't quite sure if Briar would like the gift. After all, wasn't quite at best. When Briar finally finished unwrapping the box, Andrea sighed with much relief when the birthday girl cracked a smile and thanked her. "No worries. I'm glad you liked it" she replied, her voice was a mixture of relief and excitement. After the gift unwrapping thing, Andrea blissfully ate the soft and puffy dough that her cupcake contained. It was really really good and tasted awfully delicious. The Hogwarts' delicacies were indeed mouth-watering and tasted like heaven. "I'm Andrea Kelize" Andrea told the Minoas as she finished her mouthful of cupcake. After finishing her first evening meal, Andrea stood up to grab another delicacy. She looked at the table carefully to study the different kinds of food. Her gaze was somehow stuck on the pumpkin pie so she just shrugged and began to pick a slice. After doing so, she went back to her seat. Judging Minoas's familiar features, Andrea can't help but wonder if ever Minoas has been a part of one of her class. A fellow first year, perhaps? "You look very familiar. Have we met before?" She asked, anxiously.

Minoas was enjoying himself. He ate his burgers and fruits but decided to indulge himself with a dessert as well. The pumpkin pie that the first year girl preferred was looking delicious so he took two slices on his plastic dish, before returning back to his seat. He posed with the rest of the group as the camera's lens locked on them and captures their images. "A camera is the best present you can get." he agreed before taking a bite from the pumpkin pie. He knew that his older cousin would have the same idea as he was obsessed with photography.

And by thinking of him, Minoas noticed him coming over from the distance, holding a gift as well. He slightly frowned when Icarus' present revealed to be a broom compass. He always wanted one but he was always getting presents that he couldn't appreciate at his current age. He gave a nod and a smile as a greeting to his cousin when Briar introduced him to the other and turned to the girl next to him that she introduced himself.
"Nice to meet you Andrea!" he beamed back. "Me? Umm, I don't know. I guess I am if you think that we share the same common room." he said quite unprepared for Andrea's question. "I'm in second year, I believe you are a firstie right?" it was more a confirmation question as he was pretty sure that the girl was younger.

"Icarus please." he said first closing his eyes with a sigh to accept the embarassment of being called with his surname but then opening them while cracking a smile. He also raised a hand to greet the rest of the group, offering a short wink to his younger cousin that was looking busy, talking with one of his first year students.
"I'm glad that my gift will be useful for your future adventures." he said with a smile, a non-professor like statement from him. He was still eighteen and he could hardly think as a professor, he was still up for reckless, adventurous stuff.

He was actually going to say that he hasn't going to stay, that he had just came to wish to her but then he noticed the camera in one of her friend's hands and any second thoughts vanished in seconds. "A new camera? May I?" he asked Madlyn if he could try it out and have a couple of shots.

When the camera was set on them, Andrea dropped the pie and smiled hesitantly. She's not really used to people taking pictures of her but she might as well just go along with the rest of the group. The pumpkin pie tasted like heaven. It was soft and crunchy on the outside but smooth and gooey on the inside. This delicacy will clearly take the trophy of the best delicacy from the cupcake. After the picture-taking, Andrea finished the first pie and headed out for more. She stood up and walked towards the table's direction. She picked up two slices of pumpkin pie and went back to her seat. She took another bite and chewed it like she'd never chewed before. It was very very sweet and flavorful. Andrea watched as Minoas took a pumpkin pie too. "They're very delicious, aren't they?" She asked Minoas as she took another bite. "Nice to meet you too" She said, cracking a grin. Andrea took another bite as she listened carefully to Minoas's next words. "So, Gryffindor also, eh? And yes, I am a first year" She said as she put down the pie.

Madlyn enjoyed the flowing atmosphere, regardless if she in a conversation or not, she didn't quite mind taking picture for Briar. It was the thought that counted, making memories for her so she will never forget her years at Hogwarts. Madlyn had done a different way, instead of photographing she would draw a good memory each year and keep them together in a book she sorted and made for herself. She wasn't one to be very created, so her drawings were not all great, still it was for her memories no one else. Madlyn did as she pleased and at the same time enjoyed scraping up stuff together. She was working on a collage too, some of these pictures were so going to be debut in her little project she had tuck away in her dorm room.

"Nice to meet you Icarus" the man who she assume was the flying professor, looked quite young! A lot younger then the Care of Magical creatures professor, Hogwarts was hiring them so young lately. "Sure, if you don't mind catching a few with me and her? I need pictures memories too" she handed the camera over, regardless of age Madlyn passed all of them. It got annoying have to be the tallest all of the time, but she slide down to her knees and pose right next to Briar. "Great get together, finally something fun to enjoy" she'd chuckle and lightly sat besides her sister with one arm hanging from Briar's shoulder, she was sure not to apply pressure. Although Briar was tough and could probably handle any pressure Madlyn pushed onto her.

Briar smiled when Minoas and Andrea started talking. she hadn't thought about it before bit she guessed they were quite likely to get on. the youngest two there, and they were both rather outgoing. then Icarus said not to call him my his last name she smiled. "you called my by may last name, so whats the difference" she said though she knew the difference was she had been mainly called Rowan through her childhood and it had no family link to it as it had come from the tree which she was found under. Rowan, or mountain ash or witchwood. you're right, It will certainly come in useful, either this holiday, or the next one"[/b] she said, she planned to do until a bit next holiday. but she may be able to get a couple of days to explore, if now the summer break would be good. she planned on exploring Australia a bit as she wanted to try out for some of their teams. especially the team she followed, the tunderella thunderers
the topic of conversation seemed to remain focused on the camera. she had never thought of getting a camera before but now she had been given one she realised that it was a great idea, photos of her friends would be a great keepsake. she briefly remembered the howling cavern. there were a lot of photos on the wall of the former occupants and their friends. it would be nice to ass some of her own to it. "It was a brilliant idea" she said. smiling at her friend just incase another photo was boing taken, she didn't want any miserable photos, at least not of tonight. however she saw that Madlyn was passing the camera to Icarus. before coming and kneeling besides her. her arm around her shoulder. she smiled at the camera as Icarus took the photo before answering Madlyns comment. "thanks. I thought we all needed a little relaxation. I cant even remember the last time we had a fun get together like this" she said.
