Open Cheerful Rose

[Kauri Morales-Tipene]

(Yellow for Flavio Morales, open after Anna)

As busy as he was, Kauri hadn’t considered even for a moment giving up the rose deliveries. Seeing the smiles on people’s faces was one of his favourite parts of the whole year, and as busy as he was preparing for OWLs, there would always be time in his schedule to make people happy. There was a spring in his step as he made his way through the halls, looking for the first person on his delivery list. Delivering roses to people he knew always made Kauri especially happy, and since he had become better friends with Flavio this year, he was looking forward to seeing the smile on the Head Boy’s face. Searching the halls, it wasn’t long before Kauri caught sight of Flavio up ahead, no doubt off on a delivery of his own. “Flavio!” Kauri called out, beaming as he ran up to the older boy. “Hey! I’ve got a rose for you!” He said cheerfully.

Despite being busy with his final year and more stressed than he had ever been, Flavio couldn't not sign up to deliver roses. It had become a tradition on valentine's day for him to the point where he knew he would regret if he didn't sign up, and he would feel like something was missing if he went through his day as normal. He was about to begin his deliveries, walking along the second floor towards the prefect common room in search of Kauri when none other than Kauri himself approached, saying he was there to deliver a rose. Smiling, Flavio said. "Oh, I have a rose for you too." He couldn't help but feel grateful at how convenient he was to find Kauri so easily and that they could both get some of their deliveries out of the way. It meant neither of them would have to run around the castle to find the other later and he was thankful. ​

Kauri's already wide smile brightened at the happy coincidence. "Oh!" He said cheerfully. "That's convenient!" Kauri always tried not to expect too much from Valentines, every rose its own pleasant surprise, and that made it all the more exciting when people had deliveries for him. "Hang on, here..." He smiled brightly, and pulled a bright yellow rose from his basket, smiling as he handed it to Flavio. "Happy Valentines day!"

Flavio nodded, agreeing at how convenient it was they ran into each other at the right time to deliver roses to each other simultaneously. When Kauri pulled out a yellow rose for him his smile widened and he accepted it happily. "It is lovely, thank you." He said, quickly reading the note to see the rose was from Rory, and for the first time since he could remember his friend had actually signed a name at the end of the note. Folding the note and putting it in his pocket, Flavio placed the rose in his basket before looking for the rose he was meant to deliver to Kauri. When he found the yellow rose he picked it up and handed it to the boy. "This is your rose. Happy valentine's day to you as well." Kauri usually seemed so cheerful and Flavio hoped this rose would only make the boy's day even better. ​

Kauri watched Flavio receive his rose, cheered by seeing the happiness on the older boy's face. Making people smile was something Kauri looked forward to all year, and it was always sweet to see. He waited patiently for Flavio to read the message, and gratefully accepted his own rose when Flavio offered it. "Thank you!" Kauri said happily, checking the card. His grin brightened when he saw who it was from. He felt a bit bad that he hadn't thought to send Norton one, but figured he would thank him next time they saw each other. Looking up from the card, Kauri smiled at Flavio. "Well, I should get going. Good luck with the rest of your deliveries!" He said cheerfully.
