Rain’s long blonde hair swayed in the water behind her as she graciously swam through the water. Rain hadn’t been close to the edge in a long time, she didn’t like hanging out with the Witches and Wizards but today she decided to.

Rain moved her tail through the water propelling her forward graciously; her hands in front of her helping her keep a direction.
As the ground below her got shallow Rain found a rather large rock quite close to the edge of the water, ‘Perfect place to relax’ she said to herself. Rain appeared above the water and looked around, some Students were by the water, a couple was making out, Rain was tempted to persuade the boy to come see her, but she wouldn’t, she promised herself she wouldn’t mess with the two legged peoples relationships if she could help it.

Rain used her arms to pull her onto the large rock, dragging her long golden brown tail out of the water behind her. Once Rain positioned herself on the rock in a comfy position she looked around for someone to talk to.

Jeremy hadn't been spending much time outside lately because of all the schoolwork he'd had to do and because he hadn't been feeling well. Today, he decided to take advantage of the nice weather and head outside for a bit. He didn't have any homework to do because he'd done it all already and since the summer was now over and autumn was here, there probably weren't going to be too many nice days left. It seemed a couple of other people had the same idea because as he stepped outside, he saw lots of people, mostly couples outside. Turning away from a couple who were in the shadows making out, Jeremy made his way towards the lake, planning to skip some rocks for a bit.

Finding an empty space not too far off from another couple that was making out, Jeremy quickly turned away. He didn't know how they could possibly breathe when they were so attached to each other. Shaking his head and blushing a bit, Jeremy bent down to find a good smooth rock to throw. That was the key to getting the rock to skip. It had to be as smooth as possible.

Rain looked at the boy who wasn't hanging by the lakefront with another person, she tilted her head watched him bend over trying to find something. Rain was surprised that he hasn't seen her, hello, Mermaid?
Rain suddenly had a devious idea, she slid down her rock a bit and moved so her tail was in the water, and with a massive swipe of her tail she forced up a rather large splash of water which was almost impossible to avoid, forcing the boy's front to get drenched.

Rain slid up her rock and laughed, luckly Mermaids could laugh out of water, sadly she could only talk and sing under water.
Rain flicked her long blonde hair over her shoulder and smiled at the boy giving him a cheery wave.

Just as Jeremy's hand was reaching for a particularly smooth stone, he felt a rush of water thrown at him. He stood up quickly, spluttering, with his whole front wet and his hair flopping onto his face. His eyes immediately fell upon what could only be a mermaid. He'd never seen one before except in his wizarding books, but there was no doubt in his mind what was in front of him. He could see her fin sticking out of the water and her upper half was clearly that of a woman. His spluttering stopped instantly as he looked at the beautiful creature, the stone dropping from his hand when he realized she was laughing at him. How embarassing was that? He blushed and it got even worse when she waved at him.

It took him a moment, but Jeremy realized that she probably was expecting him to wave back. He did. "You're a...mermaid" he said in awe as he stepped closer to the water so that he could see her better. "Umm...I'm Jeremy" he added a minute later. He wasn't sure whether she understood him or not, but he hoped she did. How cool would it be to talk to a mermaid...an actual mermaid. He was so excited that he forgot that she couldn't speak above water.

Rain looked at the boy, his reaction was classic when he noticed that she was there, she giggeled when he blushed 'how sweet' she thought to herself.
Rain watched the boy drop the rock and approach her she shuffeled herself up the rock further to get a bit more comfy, her shoulder blade arching as she moved her arms.

The Boy announced himself and rain smiled before pulling a puzzeled face, she couldn't talk above water but she could try communicating, Rain smiled and then pointed to herself, trying to symbolise 'I' she then couldn't think of what to say for am, but she just skipped it and pointed to the sky, and then wriggeled her fingers down to symbolise rain, she pointed to herself again and then repeated the motion of rain.

Rain wasn't sure if he quite understood so she smiled to the boy as she lifted her long golden tail, water dripped of her tail to look like rain, she pointed to the water and then dipped her tail in the water again before lifting it out and pointing to the water drip off her tail.
She nodded to him politely to see if he understood.

The closer he got to the mermaid, the more his jaw felt like dropping. She was even more cool looking than the picture in his textbook and he couldn't wait until he saw Elspeth or Briony so he could tell them. Seeing a mermaid was definitely something you didn't keep to yourself. She was spread out on a rock and didn't look like she'd be going anywhere for a while, so Jeremy sat down too, his knees up, ignoring the fact that his hoodie and jeans were all wet in the front.

When the mermaid pointed to herself, Jeremy suddenly remembered that she couldn't speak above water. It didn't mean she couldn't communicate though and it was pretty obvious to the young Ravenclaw that she was trying to. He nodded his head eagerly giving her his full attention. As she pointed at the sky, Jeremy looked up wondering if there was something there that would give him a clue to her name. "Sky? No that's not right...it looks like something from the sky." He scrunched his eyebrows together watching as she dipped her fin into the water and allowed it to drip, looking and pointing as she did. "I know you came from the water so that can't be it...water from the sky?" He was momentarily confused and then it clicked as suddenly as if he had been doused with water all over again. "Like Snow? Or Rain?"

Rain nodded happily when he said rain, she thought for a second and then put her hand up, like she had seen the other witches and wizards doing when something good happened.
She waited for the boy to give her a high 5, and smiled.

Rain looked at the boy curiously and let out a huff, this was going to be hard to commnicate above water, Rain clumsly moved back down into the water, which could be seemed like she was bored but it was actually difficult to move out of the water.
Once she was mostly in the water and a little bit of her top half was sticking out making her look almost.... human, Rain grabbed the boys hand and ripped him over her head plunging him into the water, she used her arms for alot of swimming and catching food, it was no trouble at all throwing the boy over her head.
Once the boy was in the water Rain pushed the last bit of her body into the water and powered herself to where the boy was, it was slightly shallow so she grabbed his hand, Rain wasn't aware that the boy could be panicing at all.

Rain swam casually under the water pulling the boy along next to her her blonde hair moving through the water, her tail moving up and down as she propelled herself through the water.
Rain looked over her shoulder and looked at the boy
"Whoopsy you need air" she said, her voice chiming merrily as she swam up so that the boy could breath.

Jeremy smiled as the mermaid nodded. He thought it was a very pretty name, but he didn't tell her because he wasn't sure he'd be able to get it out with stammering and blushing like a fool. When she put her hand up, he looked at her for a moment briefly startled at what she was expecting, and then slowly held his hand and lightly highfived her. It was an oddly normal act. Leaning forward, Jeremy watched as Rain wriggled herself towards the rock's edge and into the water. His face fell, disappointed that she was leaving already. He was worried that maybe she didn't want a highfive and maybe she had been expecting something else.

If Jeremy thought he was wet before, he clearly had no idea. Within a minute, he realized that Rain wasn't leaving. With a splash, Jeremy entered the water, pulled in by Rain. Now, every part of him was wet from his toes all the way to his head. "Hey!" he spluttered, but before he could do much more than that he was being pulled underwater with barely enough time to suck in a breath. Jeremy was terrified, not sure where she was taking him and what she wanted to do with him, but she was much stronger and there was nothing he could do to escape her grip. He nodded his head emphatically when she finally spoke, remembering that he needed air. Her voice was beautiful as beautiful as her, but it didn't change the fact that he was now very afraid of her. As they broke through the water, he sucked in a huge breath.

"Where are you taking me Rain? You can't just pull me in the water and expect me to follow you" he asked in a shaky voice. He was pretty sure she wasn't going to hurt him or anything but he still wanted to know what was going to happen next.

Rain Smiled when they reached the surface she was excited to have someone in the water with her. Rains smile dropped when he scolded her for pulling him in the water.
Rain sunk under the water slowly, she tugged on his leg lightly so he could think she was pulling him under and he could get a proper breath before she did. Once rain was certain he got a breath she pulled him under 'I'm Sorry, i wanted someone to swim with me, but if you don't want to i'll just go away'
Rain waited for the boy to answer, but then she rememebered he needed to speak above the water, If only someone learnt the bubble head charm she might be able to speak outside of the water.
Rain swam up to the surface and pulled the boy up with her to save him the bother and waiting for his response

Rain kicked her tail to keep her above water, the sun was bright and he blonde her seemed to be glowing, Rain had a quick check under water looking out for the shark which tends to appear every now and then but they were safe.

When he saw her smile fall off her face, Jeremy felt bad for scolding her. He knew he hated when his parents scolded him, so he knew how she must be feeling. As she sank under the water and he felt a tug, he took a deep breath and then went under again. He listened to her feeling guilty again and then shook his head. He didn't want her to go away, not at all.

Breaking the surface, he kept shaking his head. "No...I don't want you to go" he took in another breath, frustrated that he didn't know a spell to help him be able to just stay under or for her to communicate above water. He would have to look in the library and see if there was something he could use to stay underwater. "Just warn me next time, k?" he said gently as he looked at her once again. With the sun behind her, she looked like an angel. "So what are we gonna do?" he asked.

Rain smiled and pointed down so that he would know to go under water.
Rain stopped tredding water and sunk down and then grinned waiting for Jeremy to sink under water so she could speak.
"Well" she began "I could take you down to where some Mermaids hang out, but i don't think you can hold your breath for that long" Rain pondered for a second, "How about if i take you out further out that way" she pointed "There is a small coral reef, but its really pretty with some amazing fish" Rain grinned pushing her hair out of her way "What do you say?"

Rain swam back up to the surface, this swimming up and down would be annoying, she wondered what it was like to be human, to walk, to talk above water... such a mystery

When Rain pointed towards the water, Jeremy smiled. He was already taking a deep breath and as soon as he held it he sunk down to meet the mermaid. As he listened to her plan, Jeremy kicked himself for not reading anything on breathing underwater. How many people had actually visited a mermaid hangout? And now he wouldn't get the chance either. All because he couldn't breathe underwater for long. Already, he knew he would need to go up soon.

When he heard her backup plan, Jeremy nodded and held up a finger. He quickly went up, took a breath and then saw that Rain had joined him. "That sounds awesome...and hopefully next time I'll have a better way to stay underwater" he said hopefully. Returning to his bashful self, Jeremy looked down towards the water and then looked back at Rain. "Can I get another ride, Rain?" he asked, hoping she'd say yes.

Rain Smiled, her Bright Blue eyes sparkeling with Joy, A Friend, she had a friend. Rain nodded and Grabbed his hand making sure there was a good grip. She held up her other hand with three fingers and counted down slowly

Rain sunk under water bringing Jeremy down with her, she straightened herself out and kicked her tail slowly, it shouldn've felt jerky, she could swim smoothly, Her long tail was far longer then Jeremys body so she didn't have to worry about hitting him, With a big flick of her tail she was off, swimming super fast, faster then before when she brought Jeremy out, her Blonde hair whiped behind her, there was a trail of bubbles following her as she swam, she looked over at jeremy and smiled making sure he was okay she gave him a thumbs up before looking forward
"Woah Rock Pillar" she said as she quickly did a barrel roll to the left pulling Jeremy closer so that he didn't hit it, she corrected her direction and kept on going straight for another 1k, which took less then a minute.
As quickly as she Started Rain stopped and swam up to make sure Jeremy got air. She smiled and let go of his hand doing a spin while tredding water Rain opened her mouth to speak but a horrible scrawtch came out it could make anyone cringe
she face palmed and shook her head to herself, she waited for Jeremy to catch his breath before she talked to him

She had forgotten herself she was so happy she forgot she couldn't speak out of the water.

Jeremy smiled back at Rain and grabbed her hand tighter as she began a countdown. Just before she said one, he took a deep breath and went under with her. They raced through the water and Jeremy closed his eyes because everything was racing past too quickly. All he could see were bubbles around him and he wondered whether Rain could swim even faster if she didn't have him to worry about. Whoa...When he heard her mention a rock pillar, Jeremy opened his eyes but by the time he had, the pillar was long gone. He shut his eyes tight again.

Opening his eyes as they surfaced, Jeremy had a broad grin on his face even as he gulped down air. He brushed his hair out of his face. "Rain...that was so cool!" He looked around. She was right. The coral was awesome. There were tons of fish swimming around.
As Rain opened her mouth and let out a horrible sound, Jeremy winced slightly. The noise tore straight him. "Uh...did you want to say something?" he said with a smile. He leaned his head down so that only his ear stuck in the water. That way he could hear her and stay above water. He was done with being underwater for a few.
