Serving Detention

Sumner skipped stairs in his hurry to get back to the common room. Detention had been all it was cracked up to be; uncomfortable with a good dose of pain. Pile on the essays due tomorrow, he believed he and Lily had been dutibly chastised. He knew he wouldn't be having a girl in his room again. Ever. Well, he smirked, for a while. At least until he was off their radar.

Glancing over his shoulder her stopped. In his haste he'd left Lily half a flight of stairs behind him. He almost turned and ran outright to safety. She was too much of a temptation. It was wrong what he was doing. He grimaced as he did turn, but in her direction, coming down the stairs to fall into step beside her. "Sorry," he offered, shoving his hands into his pockets.

The movement stretched the skin over his back. Breath hissed between his teeth and he moved his shoulders to help alleviate the discomfort. He glanced over and down, nearly missing a change in moving stairs as his light grey eyes zeroed in the flashes of purple through her mangled shirt. Was that-lace? "Sh1t." His knee banged hard into the step.

Lily wondered exactly what she did wrong for her friend to be taking off like he was, practically running up the stairs. She stared after him, her eyes dropping as he rose up the steps. The tear in the shirt showing a flash of skin, the long legs encased in denim. She shook her head. That boy was going to get her into more trouble the way they were going. She wanted to be nothing more than friends with him, but why was it that her body warmed and her hear raced just by the mere site of him? Her cheeks flushed a touch as the thought of his hands running over her body....Stop it! What on Earth is going on? I have to stop thinking of him like this. We are friends. Nothing else. We have to be just friends.

Then suddenly, Sumner was back at her side and appologizing. She just smiled, and kept climbing the steps. Then the stairs changed up on them. Lily caught the sudden movement and adjusted, but Sumner missed. "You okay?" she asked just after he swore, reaching her hand out to him now that she was a step above where he was.

Sumner swore beneath his breath. Embarrassment made him bad tempered and he shot to his feet without use of her hand. "I'm fine." Shoving his hands once again into his pockets, he walked beside her in silence. He kept his eyes forward, narrowed in concentration. "Anybody new on the team this year?"

Conversation. Talking, if he could keep her talking.

Lily pulled her hand back as Sumner stood and seemed to ignore it. His mood changed, not that it was anything out of the ordinary for him. Giving her head a slight shake, she walked forward, eyes straight ahead. "Well, we have to have one new person with Estrella graduating and leaving keeper open. Kailey's sister Trista is trying out for that position." She turned her head and looked at Sumner, "I think I am going to give her the position. There really are not a lot of recruits this year and our first game is coming up soon."

Sumner grunted in agreement. Not that he remembered much of the day of sign ups. The only thing he did recall was the thin herd. "She any good?" His eyes flicked to her face then traveled down. The shirt was mangled beyond normal repair. He wasn't sure that magic would really do the trick either. It gaped with every movement. He couldn't think of anything else to say as smooth pale skin and purple with silver lace screamed at him.

"Well, she's not Estrella, but she played at Beauxbatons," Lily replied. She felt her heartrate pick up as she watched Sumner's grey eyes slide down her body. The gaps in her shirt allowed a bit of breeze in on her skin with every move she made, electrifying her skin. She tried to figure out what to say. Words just wouldn't come. Lily just walked along next to her friend, watching him from the corner of her eye.

Darkness. Shadows. An alcove. Temptation, hot and heady, exploded within him. Lily's voice, words spoken yet unheard through the buzzing in his ears. Vaguely he heard his own hushed voice. "Well that didn't work." Grabbing Lily's hand he pulled them into the dark alcove and pulled her up against him until she was forced to stand on tiptoe or rely on his strength to hold her. Hands hardened from Quidditch gripped her. He didn't know if they hurt her, right now he didn't care. His mouth nipped at hers, teased until they parted and hungrily he gave in and kissed her.

Lily heard Sumner mutter something then felt his hand on hers. She had no time to react before she was pulled into the alcove they were passing. Her body crushed to his as his lips found hers. Parting her own, she allowed the kiss to deepen and all thought to leave her head. His hands gripped her, a bit painfully, but nothing she couldn't handle. Stretching her arms up, they found a home wrapped around his neck and her hands found their way to his hair. She was on her toes, her body pressed against the stronger one of Sumner.

The kiss went on, intensified, Sumner struggled to breath, great puffs from his nose as his hands buried in her hair, slid down to grip her back. When he felt his control slip, his hands found the shapely curve of her hips and he ripped his mouth from hers, gasping. His forehead pressed against hers, his eyes closed and he had to know. "What is this Lily?"

Lily felt Sumner's hands moving down her back to her hips. Her heart was pounding and her body felt flush. She was loosing her ability to breathe along with the ability to think. Suddenly, he broke the kiss and rested his forehead on hers. Her feet settled back onto the floor. "I don't know what this is, Sumner." She caught her breath, then whispered. "I just don't know."

He hugged her to him, his head bowed over hers, lips pressed to her hair. "Do you have feelings for me?" He feared her answer would be yes or even maybe. Sumner cared for her as his friend, respected the hell out of her as his captain, but he didn't care for her romantically past what she felt like in his arms. It was shallow yet he didn't care. Whatever drove them together had a hold on him. And Sumner wanted more.

Lily heard the soft question and thought for a minute. Did she? Was she developing feelings for her friend? Deep down she knew this was nothing more than a physical thing. Her heart belonged to Blake. Nothing was going to change that. Maybe someday she would fall in love again, but right now the pain was too fresh and the idea of falling for someone was just absurd. "Yes, I do." She let that hang for just a second, taking a deep breath, before she looked up at him and smirked. "I feel that I really am enjoying using you for your body." She then stuck her tongue out at the man whose arms she was in.

She really hoped that he wasn't developing feelings for her, well, any feelings beyond the physical attraction that was obviously there and getting them into trouble. Time would tell, but she wasn't sure what would happen if this went someplace else.

Sumner felt her answer like a kick to the gut. She did? sh1t. His fingers spasmed where they rested on her lower back. When she raised her head, he was afraid of what he would see there. He would have to walk away, hurt his friend, because he didn't love her. He couldn't feel love for her, not for anyone, not ever again. He may join in a few laughs, get carried away with snogging, but even when that was over, it would be his empty bed he'd climb into. His dark room he'd lay in and stare at the ceiling, feeling numb.

The peek of her pink tongue, her flippant retort, struck him. He flinched. Not from hurt but from relief. he breathed out a shaky breath. Grinning, he shook his head. "Thank Merlin." His lips crashed down on hers and he grabbed her hands, put them on his chest where his shirt had torn away. "Hey," he said cockily, "how can I refuse that?"

Lily was afraid for second that she had misread her friend, that he somehow had developed feelings that she needed to be cautious of. Then he began to breathe again, and smiled. As he crushed her lips to his, and her hands were placed on his bare chest, she smiled and relaxed into the kiss. She moved her hands through the opening a bit more so her arms wound around him and her hands were exploring the skin on his back.

Sumner's head spun. He picked Lily up and pinned her to the wall, his hands gripped her tightly, his mouth on hers. Her hands on his back made him want to re-experience the soft skin on hers. He slid his hands up her sides and around her lower back, feeling the smoothness of her back. Too much, it was too much. Shaking, he pressed into her embrace hard, holding on to the moment before he sprang back, letting her feet touch the floor. He stumbled a few feet until his back hit the wall and he stood there in the dark, breathing harshly.

"Curfew," he panted out. This was insanity. His ex's best friend. His breathing slowed and as he straightened up off the wall, he smirked. If it hurt Kat, well...those were the spoils of war. He wouldn't deny himself to save her feelings. She hadn't denied herself and look where that had gotten him.

Lily felt her stomach flip as Sumner pinned her to the wall, her legs suddenly dangling above the ground. They soon found a home, wrapped around Sumner's stronger, muscular ones. Lily had an athletic body from playing Quidditch and was able to grip onto him easily. She felt her skin warm at the touch of Sumner's calloused hands on her soft back. Her mind was blank other than what she was experiencing right at that moment.

All too soon, Lily was lowered to the floor and sumner backed away from her to the opposite wall. Lily stood there panting, working to get her breath back. "sh1t. We better move or we will end up in detention again." Grabbing his hand, she pulled him back into the hallway and down the hallway and to the entrance to the common room. "We have essay's to do." She looked at her friend, glad of what they had together -- and praying that Kat and Blake never find out about it.

Chuckling Sumner let her lead him, enjoying the feel of her hand gripping his. Furtively he glanced about them, praying they didn't get caught again. "This," he said with definite certainty, smirking, "is going to suck ass." He withdrew his hand from hers after giving it a squeeze and her a smile and let her enter first.
