Amanita couldn't believe it. She'd been confident going into try-outs sure, or at least, that's what she would have told anyone who asked her, but she still could hardly believe she'd seen her own name on the Slytherin Quidditch team list. As an alternate, sure, but still. Her first year was already shaping up to be exactly what she'd wanted and more.

Dad being head of house and all probably already knew, but Amanita wasn't going to waste another second getting up to the Hospital Wing to tell her mum before Dad beat her to it.

"Mum!" She called, all but kicking the door open as she flung herself inside, hurriedly schooling her excitement down to something more appropriate in case anyone was fending off a first week flu. "Mum," she tried again in barely a whisper. "Guess what!"

Josephine was glad she was well practiced at pouring potions into smaller bottles, because she certainly would have dropped the vial she was holding otherwise when she suddenly heard her daughter's voice through the hospital wing door. She slowly put the bottle down and turned around, just in time to see her daughter rush inside. She looked her up and down quickly, making sure she was not wounded or sick. She smiled as she noticed the excitement on her face. "Did you learn your first spell?" She asked, wondering if that was what her daughter was so worked up about.

Amanita took a moment to flatten down her hair and straighten up her robes from where they'd gone askew in her sprint up 3 flights of stairs. Dad might not be far to find being in the Slytherin dorms but it did mean getting up to Mum was a bit of a trek.

"Not even, I learnt my first spell ages ago," Amanita said, ignoring that 'ages ago' was maybe more akin to a day or two ago, but that wasn't important. "Nope, you are now looking at a newly minted member of the Slytherin House Quidditch team," Amanita said, spreading her arms out and barely resisting the urge to spin around in celebration. "Only as alternate chaser, but still, can you believe it?!"

Josephine raised her eyebrows a little at her daughter's tone. "Oh, well. I'm sorry, I didn't know because I didn't get an announcement." she said mildly as she put the bottles away. But as Amanita told her what she came here to say, Josephine smiled proudly at her. "Oh, really? Good job, darling. Making it in your first year is really rare." Josephine made sure to only show happiness for her daughter, even while her mind flashed back to all the Quidditch related injuries she had treated over the years. "That's wonderful." She said, even though she had mixed feelings about this.

Amanita rolled her eyes fondly, impatiently waiting for her mum's proper reaction. Though she did make a mental note to do a little practical demonstration of some of her spells for both her parents later. She thought they were all coming along pretty well if she said so herself.

"Right? I think there's only one other first year on team this year," Ama said preening under the praise. Only one other first year she'd noticed at least. Because the other first year was a starting player. But Amanita wasn't going to let her bother her. Not a bit.

"I'll be fine, Mum, don't worry. The seekers and the beaters are the ones who get walloped," Amanita said, reckoning the look on her mum's face as the one she made right before Dad did something stupid. "Maybe you'll even get to see me play on a day you're not on bludger duty," she said brightly.
