The christmas holidays were now over, but there was little time for rest. It was always work, and never play. It was his fifth year. OWLs loomed over all of those unfortunate enough to be in his year. But good grades were not something that much mind was cast to. It was something necessary, for when minds were made up, but at this early stage in the game, it mattered little. To some it would matter more. But for Grae Kanu, he could not have cared less. It had been a struggle during the holidays. It was like any of his family could remember what it had been. Christmas was a thing long forgotten for the family he was staying with. Well, when his grandmother had forgotten, his grandfather hadn't really bothered, so it had been up to Grae to remember it for them all. Not that Grae minded too much. He was awful at receiving gifts, and he was even worse at giving gifts. he could never find anything that the other person would actually like, and his stills of accepting gifts were about as good as a fishes ability to breath on dry land. Grae was just like that. He hadn't gotten much over the years, and now he couldn't help but go as red as a tomato in the cheeks and make it sound like he hated the gift which was hardly ever true. But, Grae was now back at Durmstrang and he no longer had to worry about such things as that. He had to go back to stressing silently over the classes he was doing. Pulling all nighters every so often until he'd learnt everything that he could. But, this would have to be done over and over, until it was all within his brain. It was why, apart from quidditch studying was all the 5th year did. He was one of the better players in the school. That Grae knew but he didn't bother with people or friends. Which most of his other team mates lived for. While he knew he could use some friends, or just more people to talk to. He didn't think they were so necessary that he needed them right away, their and then. He felt like people were too focused on getting friends and things of that sort, that most had forgotten why school was actually their. It wasn't like Grae would turn down a possible friend. But, if they didn't come speak directly to him, then he would not speak directly to them. It wasn't that Grae wasn't confident, it was quite the contrary, he just couldn't be bothered actually making friends with anyone. It wasn't like in ten years time they'd still be friends. Grae knew this since, his family proved the entire thing. He loved his mum a lot, but she wasn't in the right mind. And she had no idea who he is. Which for Grae at 15 was hard to put up with every time he saw her, but Grae had an incredible strength. He was able to just push through. Like absolutely nothing was wrong.
It was sometimes a reason he believed for the lack of people who actually wanted to be his friend. Not because he came off as cold or slightly mean, but more that he didn't look like he needed anyone. But, as Grae entered the Durmstrang library, he couldn't help but feel the smallest pang of jealousy as he saw people gathered in groups, poring over books and laughing amongst themselves. Sure, in the long run, Grae knew his lack of friends was a lot better, it wasn't like he wouldn't be bothered by a few. He shook his head. The light blue eyes, rest on the floor he walked on. The books under his arm, and in his hands were threatening to fall, so he quickly sat at the nearest, empty, table and placed all the books on top. Giving a small sigh, Grae opened his books and began to read. It was a good place to be. Apart from the quidditch pitch it was the only place that Grae felt calm. Where he knew he could defeat anyone. The pitch being in the game sense, whereas in the library it was in the sense of him being better in the intellectual sense. He was probably the only quidditch player who actually studied. Not that he thought his team mates dumb, just that he knew he was the only one who really cared about his grades. Most of them knew they'd get into some team somewhere in the world. While Grae knew he was a good keeper he was smart enough to realise that he had to get all options before one conclusive one was made. It was just the nature that Grae was in. he'd seen how uncertain things could be, but he knew that at 15 things were pretty much as certain as they could get. The wider world, was more unstable and unkind than anything else in this world. Grae was glad to be in the safe walls of a school. He took out his quill, ink and parchment, and began to take notes about what he was reading. A summarized version so he could read it quickly over and over and then learn it quickly. Ignoring everything around him, all the people trying to make the least amount of noise and the others who weren't even bothering. All in all, it was just another day for Grae at the school's library.
