Satchel had sent a note. A note he'd deliberated over. A note requesting that his cousin meet him here. The whole Summer had felt like a trap, and Sybil was his closest ally at all times. Perhaps, she would be able to help. His longtime wish had been granted; his father had brought home a Californian Kingsnake. Danton's business often brought him to America, and for years Satchel had asked time and time again for a pet. This Summer though, his father had finally come through. Satchel thought it was because he felt bad for the boy who'd failed to be placed in Slytherin like his family had wished. Worse, he was a Gryffindor. Though, Sybil would understand; she'd been placed in a House the family didn't approve of too. Sometimes Satchel felt his cousins in Durmstrang were lucky, they never had to pass the Howard sorting test. There were no winners in his family. You could try and try but they would never be happy. Now that he'd finally done something to make the family proud, it didn't make him happy, it just added more obligation, placed additional weight on young shoulders.

Plantain. He'd named the snake Plantain, because of the banana pattern of it's skin. And he'd talked to him, because he could trust that his pet wouldn't be able to tell anyone of his words. The problem was when Plantain began to talk back. At first, Satchel had hidden it, knowing being a parseltongue was something associated with dark magic. His family would be overjoyed, but Satchel had seen how other people lived now, and he didn't want to live a life obsessed with blood status and superiority. There were muggleborns who got better grades than him, people who'd treated him well who weren't "pure." He couldn't see any logic behind his family's hatred. When his parents had discovered him speaking to the snake, they'd been prouder than he'd ever made them before, and his heart had sunk. Sybil always had a plan, she'd help him find a way to disentangle himself. He missed Plantain, the snake was funny, he always made Satchel feel better, but snakes weren't acceptable pets for Hogwarts.
