There, came the inward sigh of contentment as
Indianna clipped the case back over her coral lipstick and placed it meticulously on the dresser, beside the other cosmetics that had already been applied to her exotic features. She had been told by both her boyfriend and her mamá on several occasions that she looked beautiful even without the makeups enhanced aid. Whilst she was still sceptical as to whether to believe them or not, beauty products were never something Indianna indulged in heavily anyway. She preferred not having to go through the tedious motions every single morning. But tonight was different, tonight wasnt just any occasion, it
was an occasion. A graduation party to be more specific. And who could blame a girl who was already feeling on top of the world, to want to reach just that inch further? A lot had changed since graduation,
she had changed and oddly enough since it really hadnt been all that long ago. Slaving away hours of scooping up animal muck over the summer had somehow proved to be worth it because now she was only so far away from becoming veterinarian. On top of that, the offer that Sam had received for a position on the Wimbourne Wasps had resulted in one gigantic leap in their relationship. Moving to England. Together. For a brief moment she had considered placing their relationship on hiatus, in fact for a moment there it had seemed like it would be the path they were headed down. But the plan was too grave to follow through on. Despite their youth, the couple were in much too deep and there seemed no exit route in sight. And that, Indianna had concluded, was something she was over the moon to embrace.
Physically there was a difference as well, even if it were just tonight. The reflection in the mirror was one Indianna was almost ready to deem unrecognisable, one she was frightened of and yet all uncontrollably excited for in the very same instant. The smoky eyes, the primped lashes, the cherry lips. Then there was her dress a sexy little black number with intricate detailing on the back, its hem only managing to fall as far as her mid-thigh, showcasing her elegantly toned legs. And of course, a spiky pair of glossy black heels to match. It wasnt a style she was used to, but one that all of a sudden seemed fitting for this point in her life. That, and she couldnt wait to see Sams face when he laid those bright blue eyes on her. Giggling a little out loud at the thought, Indianna smoothed her hands down the length of the fitted material before allowing her mind to soften, back to the track it had been on before. Because here she stood, not as a girl, not shy, meek little Indi, but as a woman. A strong, independent young woman.
Despite this new resolve that had risen within her, Indi still found herself housing a herd of butterflies in her stomach as she thought about the night that lay ahead. She was excited to see everyone that she hadnt had the chance to catch up with since graduation but was still a little too wary than she probably should be around Sams ex-girlfriend, Riley, just one of the three hosts of the party. Although it had been two years since shed caught Indi and Sams almost kiss, that and Riley had since gotten herself a boyfriend, the Hispanic girl couldnt help but feel paranoid that there might be some bad blood between them, that Riley might secretly despise her guts or something. It was silly, but it was not something Indianna could easily shake. In addition to that paranoia, Indi was also cautious of letting herself go completely drink-wise. She didnt drink often and she rarely drank much, having an alcoholic for a father and witnessing all of its repercussions had drilled that into her. But Indi could feel that tonight might just be different, considering the atmosphere. She had played it safe though and not wanting anything strong, had just purchased a pack of raspberry vodka cruisers, and now slipped them into her enchanted purse along with her cosmetics. She was sure her petite frame could only hold so much liquor anyway.
Calling out her goodbyes to her mother, Indianna fished for one last glance at her reflection and took a preparatory breath before apparating out of her home and into a dark alley by the side of the apartment she had been addressed to. Another breath was taken, this one shaky as she fought to keep the contents of her stomach down. Apparition was not a method of transportation favoured by the girl, if there had been time to spare and shed had the finances, she would have preferred to buy a plane ticket. But instead she was forced to grin and bear the nausea, relieved that it seemed to be wearing off with every step she took up to the girls apartment. The butterflies erupted again as she reached the door, hoping that being five minutes late meant that everyone would have already arrived. But no one had thought to tell Indianna that in the case of parties five oclock usually meant six oclock, and six oclock meant seven, and seven meant eight, and so it continued. She pressed the buzzer and she heard a voice from within call out that the door was open. So as she let herself in, Indianna was a little surprised to see that the only people there were the people hosting the party. Her anxieties heightened as she spotted Riley but then seemed to calm significantly when she realised that Jenn was there too, along with the girl she assumed to be Kalani, Rileys twin. Nonetheless, she hoped that Sam would arrive soon.
Hey guys! She chirped and adjusted the shoulder strap of her purse as she walked forward into the apartment, closing the door behind her.
Excited?! Finding Jenn and leaning into her for a hug first, Indianna hesitated only slightly as she turned to Riley and decided to greet her in the same way, despite the anxious jump in her gut. Finally she turned to the girl she assumed was Rileys twin and smiled at her,
You must be Kalani then?
