Nikandros Matthias hated this school. He just hated it. The one friend he did manage to make completely and totally vanished! How lame was that? He did not find anyone at all that was worth his time, and he was growing more and more annoying by it. He wanted to be able to wreak some havoc, he wanted to be able to cause others misery while trying to impress his father with his grades which was somehow working. He did not know how it was working, but he was making some really good grades right now. He wanted to make sure that he was known in his family of brothers. He had too many, and every single one of them was more different than the last. It was quite ridiculous and Nikandros just wanted to be as loved and treasured like Tristane was. He was an angel, and everyone loved him. And then there was someone like Sethos. He ruled the family somewhat, but he stayed away from their father. Metrophanes was hard to push around, but the rest of the brothers were not as resilient as their father. Nikandros once day wanted to stand up to Sethos, but he knew that he would get his ass kicked if he even tried it. Oh well, something would have to be done eventually. He ought to go ask Levent to do it. The man was so covered in scar tissue, he hardly felt anything anymore, so he figured, hey why not? Set him in line and make sure that he does not pick on the family again, that is, if Levent would ever leave his room when he was home from work. Well, there went that brilliant idea anyway. There just had to be something. Nikandros tried to think this out as he walked down the path toward the cliffs. He wanted to find a place to sit down and stare out, while his ideas would come to his head.

Arriving to the cliffs, Nikandros felt like flourishing his wand as he sat down on the grass. There was a good breeze. It made his blond hair move just a bit. He was one of the only siblings with blond hair, except his sister Pandora. She also had blond hair. He did not know where the trait came from since the rest of his siblings were brunette. His parents were brunette too. He did not know what else to think though. Maybe there were grandparents? How likely was the Russian people who had blond hair? Nikandros looked up at the sky as he summoned some bluebell flames for him to play with. He soon grew bored of them, and turned his attention to the students, more or less first years, that were running around playing. Nikandros smirked and he cast a verbal Trip jinx and he tripped the first year flat on their face. He started to laugh, and he made sure that he was looking away when the kid was looking around, seeing who could have done it. One would have thought it would have been a Slytherin, but Nikandros was not one of those Slytherin students. He was Gryffindor. One of the kinds that would make Godric himself ashamed, but oh well. Like he cared about the opinion of some dead wizard. If it was not for him, then the school would be only for those with valuable blood!

Alaska was in the middle of trying to nap in some of the tall grass around the grounds of the castle. It was hard to get a moment alone where she felt comfortable enough to nap. Not even in her own room did Alaska feel like it was going to be okay. What if she was one of those people that snored really loudly? At night Alaska was usually one of the last girls to be in bed and asleep, so she didn’t need to worry about it as much. But during the day her roommates came and went as they pleased, so it wasn’t easy to try and figure out when one of them would suddenly appear. Alaska didn’t tolerate the other girls. They were annoying and loud, so she avoided them. Alaska was starting to realize that just like her father, she had a temper from time to time. Most of the time she seemed cool and collected, if not a bit shy, but really she was nothing more than sly tiger, waiting until it was needed for her to attack. Alaska wasn’t foolish either. Though school subjects weren’t something she excelled in like some of her relatives, she found that she had a lot more common sense than she had given herself credit for. Alaska’s legs twitched as she felt something crawl across the flesh that was exposed from one of the many rips in her jeans. ”Ugh!” Alaska sat up and wiped the beetle from her leg. As comfortable as this grass was, she kept being woken up by creepy crawlers that seemed to ignore the concept of personal space. Alaska grew fed up with the beds and decided to retire somewhere else for some peace and quiet. Hopefully she would be able to find it sometime soon.

Alaska soon arrived at the abandoned looking cliffs. This was her first time ever adventuring to this part of the grounds, and Alaska could easily see why too. It was pretty high up. Alaska may have been tall, but that didn't mean she liked heights. "I think I'm a reject Zhefarovich." Or a broken one. How was it that she was nothing like her birth family? Other than her appearance she sort of felt like she was too much of a hot-head, too clumsy, and too unsure of herself to act like a Zhefarovich would. She must be a disgrace to her family. For a brief moment Alaska hated her mother for not raising her around her father's family, because Alaska was sure that with some more practice, she would have this thing down. "Or maybe I'm just genetically screwed." Or perhaps it wasn't something that could be fixed. Maybe she was just born weird. Alaska paused when she noticed that she wasn't completely alone up here. Alaska's blue eyes shifted over to the form of a boy before she shook her head and moved further away from him. Alaska figured he wouldn't want to be bothered, and neither did she. Alaska found a rock some feet away and settled herself down upon it. A soft yawn escaped her lips the moment that she had. Boy was she eager for a long nap. The moment Alaska lowered her back so that she could lay on the rock, she forgot about the boy who also claimed the cliffs. But she would leave him be, so long as he would leave her be, all Alaska wanted was a nap.

Nikandros barely noticed that there was another girl up here. He heard someone after some time, and he looked over and saw a cute girl. Well, she would have been cute, but he had not started to develop feelings for girls yet. After watching some first years fall after he kept casting some jinxes at them. But that was getting far too boring for him. Sighing, he wished that he had someone to talk to right now, or to make someone miserable with him. Nikandros needed some friends. Troxa had Auden, but who did he have? Nikandros would have to change that soon enough. He wanted to be able to win the affections of his father, but he could not do that if he had no friends at all. He would be a pathetic loser in the end. Nikandros did not trust anyone though. Nikandros looked back over at the girl, and thought that she was taking a nap or something. Now that was highly unusual, to take a nap up in this area of the castle. One would think that one could just get in their bed and avoid people than coming here. And settling on some rocks. Yes a bed would be really good for a nap, but rocks, no. Nikandros rolled his eyes and he did not do anything. He started to cast the bluebell flames spell once more to have something to do over anything else. He was bored out of his mind. What could he do in order to pass the time? Perhaps he could set the cliffs on fire? Well, he would end up expelled for that. He did not want to do that and cause shame for the entire Matthias family.

The Gryffindor finally got bored with what was going on right now, so he got up on his feet. He started to walk and he looked back over the girl that was resting. He thought that he had heard her name every now and then in class. Alaska was it not? It was an American state. He did not remember her last name, and did not remember too much about her. Just that she was a Slytherin. That was all. He noticed that there was something crawling on her leg. She probably could not feel it because of her jeans. When he stepped closer, he realized that it was a spider crawling on her leg. He winced a bit, but figured that he would have to do something to assist her in some way. He shrugged and he approached the Slytherin girl. He bent down and with his thumb and index finger, he picked up the spider by one of the legs. He decided to get her attention by saying, “Sorry. You had a spider crawling on you.” In case she could see him or hear him. He did not want to freak her out in any way. He was a little annoyed right now anyway. He tossed the spider to the side, and he looked over at the girl with his burning, amber eyes.

Alaska jumped when she felt someone touch her. It was easy to tell that it wasn't just her imagination because the touch was firm and warm. The blonde sat up, blue eyes widened when she saw that her assumptions were correct and it wasn't just her imagination. What made it even worse was the big ugly spider the boy was holding. "Why are you holding a spider?" Was he trying to put it on her or something? Surely her dad would be displeased with fighting, but even more displeased if she allowed herself to be bullied and didn't do anything to stop it. Alaska would be damned if she let someone bully her, but this guy might not have been trying to put it on her at all, so she figured asking him would produce better results that flinging around accusations. The boy then apologized and explained that she had a spider crawling around on her. Alaska grimaced and sat up as quickly as she could with her tall giraffe-like legs. "Ew." Alaska rubbed the dirt and grass off of her, checking carefully to make sure there were no more spiders on her. They were ugly little things and it grossed her out thinking that one of them was crawling around on her like it was on some little vacation. Plus someone else had seen her in a vulnerable state and that made her feel uncomfortable. Not that she was that vulnerable, but when she was asleep it wasn't like she could control what she did. What if she was snoring and that was how he found where she was? Alaska nearly blushed at the very thought of that being the case.

"Thank you for getting the spider off of me...I guess." Alaska bit her lip, not wanting to sound rude but at the same time she wasn't sure if he wanted to hear a thanks. He kind of looked like he was one of those bad boys that didn't have a single care in the world, so would a thank you bother him? Either way, he received one and there was nothing he could that would make her take it back. An awkward silence fell over the pair, and Alaska felt like that meant it was time to get out of there, at least before he thought she was weird or something. "Um...thanks again. I'm just going to go now but-f*ck." Alaska went to turn away and start back towards the castle, but the loud sound of fabric ripping made her pause. Did she seriously just rip her pants? Alaska turned her head so she could look behind and check. As she had suspected, there was indeed a big hole in the back of her jeans, revealing a small portion of her pale green underwear and her leg to the whole world. Alaska blushed, her face turning bright pink. Alaska turned back to look at the boy, whom had probably seen and heard everything, almost daring him to say something. Her dad would be proud. She had just ripped her pants in front of some stranger. Awesome.

When asked why he was holding a spider, Nikandros could not help but roll his eyes, before he had tossed the spider to the side. It could land safely but then again what in the world did he care about some stupid spider that was rolling around? He rolled his eyes once more before folding his arms across his chest. He was struggling to remember who she was. From what he gathered though, she was one of those Slytherins in his year. Zhefarovich was it not? A grand name indeed, from what he had heard of from his dad. His dad greatly respected several families. He knew a few by heart. Snow was one of them. But the Head Girl was a Snow, and she was a half-breed so he was a little confused. Whatever it was, there had to be some pure-bloods in there to respect. "Least I did not set it on fire while it was on you. It was tempting to do that, no offence." He shrugged his shoulders since he honestly did not know what else to talk about. She sat up and seemed to check to see if there were others on her, which he could not see from the looks of things. Then he remembered her first name. Alaska. Alaska Zhefarovich. It was an interesting name, since the first name came from the state in the United States, unless there was another meaning that he was not catching. He wondered if she knew of his name since he was often in class. Or bugging others. He was quite the bully when he wanted to be. He was most definitely not the traditional Gryffindor, and his founder would be ashamed. And he would smirk.

"It was no trouble really. Most girls hate spiders, and truth be told, I do not like them either." Nikandros would hate if one was crawling on him. He would probably do what others would, which was do a little dance and make sure it was off. At least the girl had some manners, a Slytherin one no doubt. That was new. Well, some were nice, and some were not. It was the same in every house. Nikandros knew that for a fact. While he was not going to introduce himself, he raised an eyebrow when she thanked him again, and then how she was going to be leaving. Then ended it with a rather colorful word. The loud sound of a tear in denim seemed to have echoed. She ripped her pants. Nikandros clapped a hand to his mouth to keep from laughing. A girl ripped her pants and he could see her underwear, how was that not funny? Then he thought that he should at least do the noble thing. She could not just hide that and go to the common room or her dorm to get changed. She needed something to cover herself up. "Wait, you cannot just go looking like that." Nikandros removed his shirt and without even waiting for her to move away or say something, he tied it around her waist so that it was hidden. "There. Saved your life twice today."

Alaska's mouth fell open. He wanted to set it on fire while it was crawling around on her?! "What would you have done if I had caught on fire too?!" Alaska couldn't believe she had just heard him admit to thinking that. A part of her didn't even want to know what he would have done if she had caught on fire too. Alaska suspected that he would have laughed and let her suffer. The boy had been known around to be somewhat of a bully. This was where he and Alaska were on different levels. If Alaska didn't like someone, she would likely just ignore them rather than waste her time on making sure they were miserable. It took too much energy that she could be putting towards much more useful activities. Nikandros on the other hand, from what Alaska had seen and heard, did what he wanted to whomever he wanted to do it too. Perhaps he wasn't truly a bully, but that was how Alaska saw him as. In fact, it already made her weary of him. What if he had intentions of using his rude and cruel teasing tactics on her as well. Alaska had never encountered someone picking on her before, so she had no idea how she would react to it. Would she get mad and attempt to strike back? Or would she get upset and have to run off to weep somewhere? Alaska looked around, checking to make sure there was no one around that could possibly have witnessed her sleeping in the tall grass as well. It was already unnerving that she had been spotted by Nikandros, having others become involved would only make it worse for her. No one really came out here, so she didn't expect for even Nikandros to be out there.

"You're a boy...and you're afraid of spiders? Are you sure you're a Gryffindor?" Alaska asked softly, truly curious as to how a boy could be afraid of a measly spider? Weren't they supposed to be tough and macho during these types of situations? Alaska was used to living in a family where the men didn't appear to even be fearful of dragons, so a little spider was nothing to them. Alaska on the other hand, was scared of both dragons and spiders, but she was a teenage girl, so her reasons seemed justified in her mind. Ripping her pants was probably karma's way of telling her to be more careful where she fell asleep at, and Alaska felt like jumping off the cliff for letting Nikandros see this. Alaska was stopped by him, only to wind up having him tie his shirt around her waist, shielding the hole from view. The fourteen year old blushed and stepped away. "Dude...take your freaking shirt back before someone sees you!" Alaska untied it and hurled it right back at him. Alaska did not want someone to see this and think they were boyfriend and girlfriend or something. Plus it was weird seeing someone her age do such a thing. Alaska's hands went back so she could cover up the hole that way and shook her head. Boys were really weird. No wonder her father told her that she should avoid them all together. Oh god....what would her dad do if he found out about this? Alaska would be grounded for life! Alaska was grateful that he was willing to do something that nice, but it was just too weird to have him offer up the shirt off of his own back to someone he barely knew except for maybe her name or something.

Nikandros did not think about what would have happened if she had caught on fire too. He bit his lip and shrugged, "I guess I did not think that through. Good thing I didn't though." He would not have wanted Alaska Zhefarovich to come after him. For one, she was like, taller than most girls. And she was a Zhefarovich. She had relatives all over the school and he did not want to have to deal with that. There was only so much he could do. Nikandros hoped that he would not get on her bad side anyway. She was a Slytherin after all. He had to think about what he was dealing with. Nikandros sighed a bit and adjusted his position while standing up. He often treated the snakes better. However there was not many people that would get any attention from him. Positive or negative otherwise. Nikandros just worked on making his daddy happy but was it enough? Sometimes he was just not sure. He was to be able to stand out to his family and do stuff together. Sethos did a good job at keeping them all separated since he was like a tyrant in the Matthias family. He wondered when his dad would ever calm hem down. Maybe one day the man would or they organize under a head that would not be Sethos. Well one could really hope that it would be someone who knew what they were doing. He could think of several that could and could not. Sighing he wondered if he should ask Alaska about her family and take some tips and have them influence their family not knowing how closely they were connected already. Nikandros continued to keep his eyes on the Slytherin and figured that she would be leaving soon. Or not that would be cool too.

Sighing Nikandros shook his head. "I did not say I was scared of spiders. I just do not like them. I did just pick up one after all. And sometimes I wonder since a lot here are glorified idiots." It was the truth to him since he hated just about everyone in his house. Was that a bad thing or no? He was not sure but he also did not care either. He raised his eyebrow wondering if she had something to say about that. He counted it since she did not seem to be very talkative. Not that he was surprised. Hufflepuffs and Gryffindors normally could not shut up. Nikandros was a special case anyway. It also seemed like Alaska was being very modest right now with the fact that he saved her some humiliation by covering up her revealing underwear. Then she untied it and toss it back at him. He caught it and raised an eyebrow. Was she serious? "Dude, I am just trying to salvage your reputation with covering up your ass. Take my help or don't it doesn't hurt me at all. But you lose in the long run." He was just telling her like it was. Seriously what did he lose if she did not take his shirt. Nothing at all. He wondered if she would either run like an idiot to the commons to change her pants or take his generous offer. If not he would go back to doing his own thing which was way away from here all awkward in front of this Slytherin girl that was getting a little weird for him.

Alaska couldn't believe that he hadn't thought about the fact that he could have set her on fire too if he set the spider on fire. Did he have any common sense lingering around in that big head of his? "Well you're definitely not a Ravenclaw." Alaska rolled her eyes softly as she stared at the boy. Alaska felt like she was killing two birds with one stone here. She was addressing both the fact that he seemed to lack common sense, and that he also felt like he wasn't a Gryffindor at times because of the people he shared a house with. Alaska didn't mean to offend him, but he was probably going to be taking it as an offensive remark anyways. People who were sorted into Gryffindor were sometimes total hotheads, and for all Alaska knew this boy could be no different. Though she was from a family where people with tempers rarely bothered her. One of her aunts had the scariest temper she had ever seen, the way she exploded about little things was both funny and worrisome. How on earth did Professor Styx deal with that sort of thing whenever he came home? Alaska peeled off a leaf that had stuck itself to her arm and stared at the boy again, almost daring him to say something snarky to her about the jab she had made at him earlier. Alaska was already annoyed that he almost set her on fire with his lack of thinking skills. Who even let this boy have a wand? Alaska felt her inner family traits starting to take over, and she disliked that. The ways that some of them had were just bound to get her into some trouble, and the last thing Alaska wanted to do today was deal with her uncle and whatever detention he was going to dish out.

"I don't really have a reputation to begin with. I appreciate your help and all, but I don't need it. I don't need to be rescued." Alaska pointed out. Since she had an undershirt on, she could just use the shirt she was wearing now. Quickly, the young Slytherin yanked it off and threw it around herself. The shirt she had on now was nothing more than a mere dark green camisole. It wasn't revealing or anything, but Alaska hated wearing them without something being over top of it. "See?" Alaska hissed, showing the boy that she could easily take care of herself. As nice as it was, Alaska didn't really like to think of ever needing to be rescued. Her family taught her that she needed to be strong and form her own line of defense. Plus this boy had thought about setting her on fire earlier, so she didn't know if she could or if she should trust him so blindly. Her dad most certainly taught her better than that.

Nikandros heard what she said about him definitely not being a Ravenclaw. Well, he never claimed to be so he rolled his golden eyes before he shrugged, "Yeah, never said I was anything like a Ravenclaw, so your statement is irrelevant." The surprising thing about it was that he seemed really calm with it, and wondered if he had set her on fire, then what would he have done? Laugh? Probably. But he had heard worse things before and it was hard to get him upset. With having a brother like Sethos, it was a little harder to ignite his fuse. Nikandros could almost feel all of the negativity coming from her and he finally just sighed, "Think what you want, I did get a spider off of you by picking it up, so that's that. You aren't on fire, so let it go." Nikandros seemed almost bored with the girl and was tempted to walk off and do whatever he wanted. She must have really held something against him for a decision that he actually did not make with that one little insult she threw at him. That was probably the last time he ever helped someone. Maybe some people like this Slytherin just deserved to be set on fire. But he did not want to turn out like Sethos, so he had chosen the morally good way out.

Sighing and rolling those eyes again, he slipped on his shirt and he looked at her, while hiding a yawn too. "Whatever, just trying to be nice and all." After all of this she still seemed as better as ever. She had to be that Zhefarovich in his year, which he should have expected from that family. He did not hear much about them from his father since he never really asked. He would have to do more of that so that he knew what he was getting himself into. Nikandros nodded once she said that one single word. He was not blind so he shrugged again, "Indeed I do. Congrats on not being a damsel in distress." Nikandros even clapped a few times with a smirk across his lips. Now he was just teasing her before he thought about going back inside of the castle. Obviously what he was looking to do was not out here. He wanted to go make a few kids' lives a living hell, but then again, he did not want to be his brother. So he simply stood there, waiting for her to run back to the dorms to get a change of pants.

Alaska was grateful that the boy had picked the spider off of her, but at the same time she didn't want him to think that she was a damsel in distress, or that she needed his help. Plus he was getting sassy about the entire process of her trying to tell him that she didn't need his help, and it was starting to piss Alaska off. The last thing she wanted to do was get into a fight with some idiot Gryffindor, a handsome one at that, and then hear a lecture from her dad for the next couple of weeks. "Look, I'm very grateful for what you did. But you're starting to make me mad, and I don't want to get into a fight with a boy." Alaska shrugged her shoulders before she waved and turned around. That way of saying goodbye before she headed back towards the castle. Hopefully, she would have another run in with this boy later. He was kind of a punk, and boys were the last thing Alaska needed right now.
