The large pile of dirty dishes that made their long-term residence in Sam's kitchen sink began to slowly depopulate. It was the first time in over a week that Sam could bring himself to clear up that spot. His sudden urge to make his home look semi-respectable stemmed from the fact that he had a girl coming over. However because it was only Jenn, Sam was content enough to leave the rest of his house in it's usual untidy state. Jenn was Sam's oldest friend and he knew she wouldn't mind an accumulation of dust on the floorboards, or last night's nachos squashed under the settee cushions. Once he had finished, Sam had to take a moment to appreciate the foreign image of an empty sink in front of him. He wasn't sure if the satisfactory feeling was worth the task of scraping the remains of an old lasagne off a plate.

Initially the plan was for the pair of friends to have a quick catch-up, but that soon evolved into a quick catch-up with a glass of wine, which then turned into, a quick catch-up with a bottle of whiskey, simply because that's all that remained in Sam's alcohol cupboard. He grabbed the bottle by it's neck and two glasses all the while challenging himself to holding a bag of fresh nacho chips with his teeth. Beyond his own belief, he made it to the sitting room without dropping the chips, smashing a glass, or most importantly, smashing the whiskey. He plopped himself on the sofa then with an exhausted sigh. It was a long day of hard Quidditch training, and although he lived for the game, he was beginning to feel this week's efforts take it's toll on his body. He felt fitter than ever, but mentally, it was a struggle to get up every morning. He began contemplating the idea that maybe Quidditch wasn't the problem, that there was another reason for the strain that he felt everyday. But Sam didn't want to open that book anytime soon and so, instead, he flicked on a muggle tv show and waited for Jenn's arrival. The sooner he could open that bottle of whiskey, the better.
