Evie Hamilton rounded the corner at full speed, briefly looking back to see if she had lost the two men chasing after her. Large blue eyes took in the forms of the two heavyset men chasing after her as quickly as their chubby legs could allow it and a groan of fear escaped Evie's throat. How on earth did they still have the energy to chase her? Weren't heavier people supposed to be out of shape?! "If I had known that they could run so fast I never would have taken food from them! My legs are so tired!" If they caught her, Evie would get into trouble. Then she would be forced to return to the foster home that she had run away from. If Evie could avoid ever going back to such a place, she totally would. The eleven year old would rather live on the streets and fend for herself than live with those people. They were absolutely insane! Evie willed herself another big burst of speed and turned around the corner. A new plan had quickly put itself together in her mind, and she needed to act fast! Instead of running from them, she had every intention of hiding! If it worked, then with luck on her side, she'd lose the two idiots and be able to enjoy the meal she had stolen from their restaurant. As bad as stealing was, starving was even worse in Evie's mind.

Evie's body rounded one more corner, and she quickly took in her surroundings. There wasn't much to hide behind, but she did see a man standing by himself. He was big enough to hide her, and Evie was going to use that to her advantage. Without any type of warning, Evie booked it for the man. "Scuse me!" Evie grabbed his sleeved and pulled herself behind his large frame, peeking out only slightly, that way she could get a glimpse of the two men as they booked it past the pair. Evie watched them closely, until they were practically nothing but dots in the distance. A grin overtook her lips. She had lost them! "Hey, thanks mister!" Evie thanked the man as she took a large heaping bite of her sandwich. Ah roast beef was her absolutely favorite too! Once Evie was halfway finished with her sandwich, she decided that she was suddenly interested in the man that had unknowingly saved her from being taken back to the foster home. "What's your name?" The eleven year old questioned softly. It felt weird talking to someone that looked so much older than she did, but she hadn't really had the chance to really talk to someone in some time, so hopefully he'd answer her. if not, it wasn't like it was going to stop Evie from talking to him.

Honestly, Dylas Van Alstyne did not know why he was even here right now. Being in Obsidian Harbour made him wonder some things, but since his special run in, his mind was a blur and he did not know what he was going to do with himself. Dylas stopped by a cafe and got himself a tall glass of iced tea, before he stood near an alleyway. No one ever asked where he got his funds, but he would never tell either. Pocketing his galleons into the pockets of his robes, he looked around before he heard someone young say something, and then hide behind him. He raised an eyebrow, and looked behind him to see a small girl. She seemed to be running from something. He looked at the two men that seemed to be coming after her, before the two men ran past him and the girl, off into the distance. How dense could they be? Dylas sipped his iced tea, before assuming that she was going to run off or something. He did not mind being used as a pillar, as long as she stopped touching him. Dylas began to walk away before she stepped in front of him, and started eating. Now he understood more. She stole something from them, and now she got away. Great. He had to attract some little brat or troublemaker.

She said thanks, and then asked what his name was. He raised an eyebrow, before he uttered coldly, "My name is none of your concern. Now, you should run along." He did not want to be around some kid, so he motioned with his free hand for her to move along. He would start walking away if she didn't start moving. He could always apparate, but this girl could be a muggle, and he would loathe that. He hated anything with dirty blood. People like that did not make any sense to him. He was not sure why he would bother with some kid. He had greater plans right now, and he didn't know how to start them. The girl would be nothing but a nuisance of the day. Dylas then brushed his hair back, and he looked forward, figuring that the girl would give up in talking to him, and just run along. He needed some time to himself, and he needed to figure things out. And, he had to know the other one.

The man didn't seemed too thrilled to have Evie hanging around, not that she blamed him. No one really seemed to want her around, her parents included since they abandoned without even a second glance. Evie didn't have any luck with the orphanage either. No one ever seemed keen on adopting her, so as far as she was concerned, she was just generally unwanted by society. "Awh come on, don't be like that! If you tell me your name I'll get liekly bored quicker and stop talking to you? So it's in your best interest." This guy was a regular groucho wasn't he? Evie pretended not to be bothered by his comment and continued to stare up at him with her big blue eyes. It was weird, but this man fascinated her. He looked different than most people around here did. Did he always dress like that or was it for some special type of event? Was he part of some sort of special club? Evie had so many questions she wanted to ask this man but felt like she would get nowhere by doing so. He didn't even want to share his name with her, let alone secrets about his attire.

"Are you one of them fancy wizards? You dress like one. oh my gosh, I wish I could do magic. Well I mean, I've accidentally set things on fire and moved them without touching them. But when I told my foster mom she told me to quit telling stories. Hey do you have a wand? Can I see it?" Evie went on and on, not even realizing that if she were talking to anyone else, she might have seemed like she was absolutely crazy. Evie had no idea whether this man was really a wizard or not, he just dressed like one. Obsidian Harbor seemed to be filled with people like that, but they never really spoke openly about it either. Evie wasn't sure why, but it must be something cool. The man didn't move, and Evie continued to stare. Oh my gosh someone needed to light a fire under his butt and get him going a little bit. He seemed almost cold and lifeless. Didn't he realize that it was a beautiful day outside and he was alive and seemingly well? Some people just didn't appreciate the small things in life, and that's why they acted like this guy.

The girl continued to hang around, and Dylas was getting more and more agitated with her. This was beyond ridiculous. Dylas rolled his eyes as she continued to talk to him, asking if he would tell her his name, and how it was in his best interest. He shook his head, and said sternly, "You have no idea what is in my best interest, now you should really run along before you no longer have any best interests." Dylas was threatening to hurt her now, and he didn't want to deal with some brat. She probably had parents or something that were looking for her. He had no idea that she was an orphan, like him, given up to the society. Only, Dylas was turned into one of the worst examples. That could never happen to this girl since she seemed too nice already. 'Kill me someone, or let everyone vanish so I can just get rid of her,' thought Dylas, as he looked up to the blue sky, almost praying to an unknown being that could be up there, but even he knew that it was not. His fingers touched the hems of his robes as he struggled to maintain his calm demeanor.

Now, she was asking him if he was one of those fancy wizards, and how she could do magic. At least she was a witch, and he heard that with her next thing. And she was a foster kid. His eyes went down to her and he narrowed them. She wanted to see his wand? "You are a witch, and you don't have a wand? That's a failure of an excuse. And no, you don't get to see my wand either." Dylas thought that maybe he had enough, but a part of him felt...bad. That was unusual since he never felt bad about anything. But this girl was similar to him. Dylas finally let out a sigh, and figured that now that she was finally silent, he could start to walk away. The young wizard started to walk, and he aimed forward, knowing that he had a brother out there, and well, things were really tense and off. Dylas didn't know what to do about that. He started to walk away, and his legs carried him in long strides, down the darker parts of the alley. It was not completely in the shadows just yet, where he could blend in, but it was something, as long as the kid didn't distract him or follow him.

This man was a serious grouch, but for some reason Evie didn't want to let him out of her sight. Although Evie didn't have all that many memories of her dad, this man kind of reminded her of her father. They both preferred to keep to themselves and both had a very grouchy disposition. "Mister I don't even think you know what's in your best interest." He overall appeared as if he just wanted Evie to go away. But being eleven, Evie didn't understand social or nonverbal hints unless it was practically spelled out for her. "Why are you all alone out here? Don't you have friends or something?" They were heading closer and closer to Bleak Street, Evie noticed, and despite being in Obsidian Harbor where it was usually pretty safe, they were beginning to head towards the bad side of town. Surely this man didn't travel by himself! It would be too lonely, and Evie knew how much it stunk to be lonely. Why else would she be bothering this creepy older guy? The young girl had no one else and some human interaction was much better than no human interaction, even if it was a mutual interaction.

"I ran away from my foster home because the other kids were mean to me and no one believed me about magic. So I don't have anywhere to go and I don't have any money to buy a wand. So how in the world would you expect me to get one?" Evie had no money and no connections, now if she could find somewhere to steal some money or con it out of someone, she could do that. But it would take some time of saving up before she could afford a wand. On top of that, once she got herself a wand, how was she going to learn to use it without someone to teach her? If she could afford school supplies she would go off to one of them schools she heard about, but since she didn't she had to learn it from somewhere else. "Do you want to show me some magic spells? Oooh can you set that bench on fire?!" Evie's short attention span was beginning to show, because now she was on a completely different thinking path right now. It'd be cool if he showed her some magic though, magic that he actually produced without it being on accident like she did.

Dylas was seriously questioning this girl and her motives. What was wrong with her? Something was definitely not right. Dylas was a vicious, wanted murderer that had a reputation before he even hit his twenties. He could set fears to life and everything, yet, this girl was following him around like a lost puppy. She said that she didn't think that even he knew what was in his best interest. Was this girl kidding herself? "Of course I know what is in my best interest, and that is not having some little twerp around me!" She continued to talk to him as he was walking away. He was heading more and more into the turn of Bleak Street, and she was still following, unafraid. She asked why he was alone out here, and if he had any friends. He rolled his eyes, before he didn't bother answering. He gave up at this point. He just gave up at that point, and continued walking, seeing that she was still going to follow him no mater what he did or said. She was just some kid. That was what he had to remember. She was innocence.

The girl continued to talk about how she ran away, since the other kids were mean to her. She didn't have the money to buy a wand so she was defenseless. He didn't respond to that too, and she continued to ask if he wanted to show her some magic spells. And if he could set that bench on fire. He shook his head, before he looked up to see some of the alley's residents starting to follow them. The men were cat calling after the young girl, and one even reached out to touch her. Dylas quickly got his wand out and banished the man across the alley, and put his free arm back to protect the girl. Dylas decided against casting darker spells, for now. He looked down at the girl once the residents of the alley gave up on their pursuit. He let out a defeated sigh, knowing that she shouldn't be alone. Dylas muttered, "Look, if you want to stick next to me, don't get into trouble. I won't be your knight in shining armor. And, I'll get you a decent wand." Dylas figured that this was the best he was going to get. The girl really didn't know any better, and who knows, Dylas might have some decent ideas over what he needed to do in life.
