Eugene walked out of the Entrance hall and onto the lawns heading straight for the lakefront. His bag was still slung over his shoulders but he didn't care to loose it. All he wanted was to reach the cool shade of the huge oak on the edge of the lake and sit there. The day was really warm and most of the students were staying inside the castle but Eugene had become sick and tired of being confined indoors.

For the past few weeks, he had been spending most of his time studying in the library or in the common room. It had gotten unbearable by the end. And now that their last exam was finally over, Eugene felt like he could no longer stay inside the castle and that he had to spend the afternoon outside despite the warm day.

He reached the shade of the great tree and sat on one of it's twisted roots, breathing a sigh of relief. A cool breeze was blowing gently from the lake and threatened to lull him to sleep. The nights spent studying by the fire seemed endless and now finally he had time to relax and just enjoy the summer. He was still finding it weird with the change in the weather pattern but at the time he was glad that it wasn't cold out side or he would have been forced to stay indoors.

The water in the Black Lake was peaceful and still but Eugene was afraid of it's mysterious depths and what dwelt in them. However, he pulled off his shoes and socks and waded to a big stone that was shaded by the Oak tree. He sat down on it and dipped his feet in the water, letting it's coolness heal the tiredness from his feet. He was glad to have completed their exams and glad that all of them had gone well except History of Magic. But about that he couldn't bring himself to care as the day was too beautiful to be worried by things like History grades.

Sorry this is so horrible

Sunshine streamed in through the window in the Gryffindor girls' dorm. Caroline's grey eyes gazed longingly out the window as she surveyed the summer weather. The blonde had been cooped up inside the castle for the last few weeks as she had been preparing to take her finals for her first semester at Hogwarts. She had not known what to expect, and they had been much more difficult that she had been imagining. Overall, Caroline had done well in her classes this term, and she vowed to do much better next term. Mostly, Caroline was simply grateful to be done for now.

Today, the first year intended to have a bit of fun. Caroline was going to enjoy herself outdoors though she wasn't quite sure what she wanted to do. There were several options on the table for her consideration. She could go to the gardens with her favorite book to sit and read amongst the flowers. She could go for a run which she actually enjoyed doing. Or, she could go to the Quidditch pitch and practice her flying. She had made the house team as an alternate chaser, but she wanted to be a starter next year. All these ideas seemed equally appealing until she came up with the idea to go swimming in the lake.

Caroline had heard that there was a giant squid, merpeople, as well as some other magical creatures that lived in the lake, but she figured at least some of that was just rumors. Anyways, the giant squid wouldn't have any interest in such a small girl all by herself. So the Gryffindor changed her clothing and left for the lake.

A bight smile appeared on her face as Caroline pushed open the door. Sunshine graced her face for the first time in weeks. Flecks of gold appeared in her eyes as she captured the warm from the sun. The slender girl practically raced down to the lake. She knew that the water was probably much colder than the temperature outside. She sat her towel down on a near by rock and kicked off her shoes. The blonde went to the edge of the water and waded into her calves, giving her body time to adjust to the water which was not as cold as expected. So wrapped up in her own glee, Caroline did not notice the Hufflepuff first year so close to her.
