Arthur Richard Sword

The Basics

Character's Name:
Arthur Richard Sword
Name meaning:
Arthur: A name of uncertain meaning; it could be derived from Celtic elements artos (bear) combined with viros (man) or rigos (king). Known for being the central figure of Arthurian legend, a 6th-century king.
Richard: A name meaning ‘brave ruler,’ from Germanic ric (ruler, mighty) and hard (brave, hardy).
Sword: An ancient English and Scottish surname, originally an occupational name for a swordsman or armourer.

Character's Birthdate: February 7th 2039
Zodiac: Aquarius
Strengths: Witty - Clever - Inventive - Humanitarian - Original
Weaknesses: Stubborn - Unemotional - Rebellious - Aloof
Aquarius is the sign of visionaries, unconventionality and intellectual independence. They are the people who deviate from the crowd and go their own way. They are always after intellectual stimulation, constantly discovering something new, forming new opinions and stubbornly traveling their way regardless of what other people think. Aquarius are filled with paradoxes, they are interested in the opposite ends of the spectrum, they like to be alone yet are social butterflies, they like to experience both sides and see both opinions as they formulate new ideas with their forward thinking, active mind.
Current Residence: Wellington, New Zealand
Place of Birth: York, England
Blood Status: Unknown

Education: Hogwarts New Zealand
Hogwarts House: Ravenclaw
Wand: Curved 15” Flexible Alder wand with Augurey Tail Feather Core
Style: Bending to its side, this wand is more difficult to aim than its straighter counterparts but provides character that some simply cannot pass by.
Length: A little on the longer side of things, wands of this length are slightly more uncommon and not easily forgotten by others.
Flexibility: Not easily broken, this wand performs under strenuous circumstances with little effort - though how well it performs is ultimately up to its weilder.
Wood: Alder wands are best held by those who are kind and helpful and becomes a loyal and trusted helper itself when controlled properly.
Core: Since so many wizards are afraid to go near Augureys due to their association as ‘omens of death,’ Augurey tail feathers are rare as wand cores. They are good for use in divination work.

Appearance
Hair:
Straight and dark brown
Eyes: Grey
Height: Quite short for his age
Build: Small and slight
Playby: Quinn Lord

A Little Deeper
Personality: Arthur is a bookish, friendly boy, who is always curious about everything. He’s particularly drawn towards the weird and obscure, and unexpected or quirky facts. Arthur lives in his head a lot, frequently going off on wide mental tangents, and making comments that seem random to anyone who doesn’t understand his thought processes as a result. Due to his relatively chaotic home life, Arthur is quite self-sufficient, and he likes his space to be organised and tidy. Arthur is by disposition quite friendly, but years of being teased for his name and his oddness have also left him rather shy, so his interactions with people are a mass of contradictions.
Strengths: Curious, intelligent, supportive friend, well-organised
Weaknesses: Shy, stubborn, tends to get lost in his own thoughts
Interests: Reading, obscure facts, collecting, music
Likes: Blue, books, weird facts, sunflowers, dogs, blanket forts

History
Arthur is the only child of single mother Samara Sword, and never knew his father. Samara was going through a difficult time when he was conceived. She was twenty-four, her life was a mess, and her pregnancy was the result of a one night stand with a man she never saw again. Samara’s life has always been rather chaotic, moving between jobs and apartments, but with the help of her parents Alan and Laura Sword, she’s done her best to ensure a happy and relatively stable life for her son. For most of Arthur’s life, they have lived in York, England, quite close to his grandparents. Arthur’s aunt Lillian moved from there to New Zealand not long after Arthur was born, and visits regularly, but Arthur never felt he knew her very well. Arthur has long been teased at school, and as a result of this, Samara decided he would be better off going to Hogwarts New Zealand, where Lillian is a teacher and could provide him some guidance and protection. Arthur isn’t sure about this plan, but he’s curious to live in and learn about a new country. He and Samara moved to Wellington, living with Lillian for now until Samara can find her own place.

First Year
Arthur felt like his eyes were bulging out of his head as he looked around the Great Hall, enthralled and fascinated by absolutely everything. There was so much happening all around him, so much magic and beauty, he could hardly choose what to look at. A million questions swirled around his head: how did they make the ceiling like that? Were they going to learn about it? About how they made the candles float like that? Or how they prevented them from dripping wax onto the crowd below? The crowd was the part he was less enthused by; there were so many people, and he felt at once very small and very exposed in the knot of first years. Arthur stuck close to Finn and the boys he’d met on the train, grateful that he at least knew someone here. It had been a good idea on Aunt Lillian’s part. He looked for her at the staff table, and she smiled and gave him a little wave, but she seemed so far away. And the time he would have to come closer held its own mixture of excitement and dread. Where would he be sorted? Where would he spend the next seven years of his life? He hoped he’d be with at least one of his new friends, as the idea of going into a house entirely alone was daunting.

And then, at last, his name was called. Arthur hadn’t told the other boys about his name, and he hoped they wouldn’t laugh at him, but he wasn’t going to look back now. His attention, from trying to focus on everything at once, was entirely consumed by the hat and the short walk to it. The hat was a curious thing too, he reflected as he perched gingerly on the stool. It must be able to read his mind, and that was some pretty impressive magic, but could it read his . . . future, as well? People must change over seven years, right? Or did that not matter for sorting? Everything went dark as the hat slid over his eyes, and he waited, breathless, for its decision.

"There will be lots of odd and interesting facts to discover and learn about throughout your seven years here, and they will come to you best in....Ravenclaw,"
