Are there mermaids in New Zealand?

Abbey nodded her head in agreement and said, "How is your eye doing? Any better?" Abbey breifly remembered Ava telling her that she hurt her eye badly, or that blood came out of it, to be perfectly honest she couldn't remember much from last year.

[She isn't a WW anymore k? ]

Ava shrugged. "Its fine." she said breezily. "So... how were you're holidays?" she asked curiously. Her eye had healed ages ago, the only thing that bothered her now was the scar along her back. The scars on her face didn't hurt her anymore. Still, it looked like some giant feral cat had tried to claw her face off. Avadia flinched slightly, as she remembered what her face looked like.

Abbey flinched at Ava's question a her bottom lip began quivering unintentionally and she said with her voice, barely above a whisper, "Complicated." Abbey looked down slightly then she closed her eyes but opened them up immediately when she was greeted by memories of the man at the orphanage. Abbey winced then she shook her head and repeated, "Complicated."

Avadia looked at Abbey with concerned eyes. She didn't like to see people unhappy. Complicated, that hated word. Why couldn't everything just be simple, and everyone happy and carefree? Because this was the real world, not one of Ava's dreams. "Are you okay Abbey?" she asked carefully, she could see Abbey was definately not 'okay'. She blinked, and looked at Abbey with wide eyes.

Abbey shook her head honestly and said, "No." And I don't know if I ever will be. Abbey had been telling Noah that she would be fine, but she honestly didn't believe this, why would she? She didn't have any parents, her sister was basically missing, she had been abused and she was living on the streets of New Zealand.

Avadia looked at Abbey sadly. "What happened?" she asked. She didn't expect Abbey to tell her, but it was worth a shot asking. She felt sorry for the Slytherin girl, she could feel the aura of despair around her.

"I can't say...it's-" Abbey stopped she knew that Ava would be able to fill in the blank and if she wasn't it would just be left there. Abbey sighed gently and said in desperate attempt to change topics, "Is the water nice?"

"Complicated." Ava muttered. She looked at the lake, then back at Abbey. "Yeah, a little cold though." she said. She walked over to the bank, and put her feet in the water, even though she was already soaked. She absent-mindedly traced a scar on her face, then sighed as she noticed what she was doing.

Abbey sighed gently and she said, "Ava, over the summer you didn't happen to read any wizarding new papers have you?" Abbey really wanted to know what happened to Asher she needed to know she was desperate.

Avadia tried to remember if she had seen any newpapers, but she hadn't "No, I don't read the newspaper." she said. In fact, her sisters didn't like getting the paper, but Sandra had made the others give in. "Why...?" she asked slowly, sure that something bad had happened.

Abbey frowned and said, "It's complicated...nevermind." Abbey sighed and blurted out, "I haven't seen Asher since Christmas!" Abbey scowled she needed her sister to be alive, she was the only relative she had met.

Avadia looked down at the water, facing away from Abbey. Complicated this, complicated that. Ava sighed quietly to herself, and swirled her toes around in the water. Her head snapped up, and she whirled around to face Abbey, as the Slytherin said she hadn't seen Asher since Christmas. Avadia had never met Asher, but she knew of her. "What!" she almost exploded, astounded.

Ava stood up, facing Abbey, a look of pure shock on her pale face. "Wha-, where-? she started to say something, then stopped. She had no idea what she would do if she had no idea where her only family was!

"And that's one of many problems," Abbey mumbled under her breath when she saw Ava's reaction then said, "She hasn't written me since last year when she returned to HNZ, Nina, Alex and Noah don't have a clue where she is, and her orphanage was bad.. really bad." Abbey winced as she remembered her orphanage, before and after Mrs. Cajou died.

Avadia pushed her hair behind her ears, listening to what Abbey was saying. "Gosh..." she said simply, not knowing what else to say. Ava almost choked when Abbey said 'orphanage'. It clicked that Abbey must have been in an orphanage too, if she wasn't still. Suddenly Ava wanted to hug Abbey, but she didn't , just continued t ostand facing the girl.

"Oh you didn't know? Our parents died a long time a go," Abbey mumbled sadly when she saw the shock on Ava's face from when she said 'orphanage.' "Asher and I only met last year," Abbey commented sadly, she missed her sister so much.

Ava shook her head. "No I didn't know." she said. She didn't bother saying 'I'm sorry', and all that; she hated it when people apologised when she told them her parents were dead. "Mmm, mine died a few years ago." she said, half to her self, and half to Abbey. "The great house fire..." she said, so low it was hard to hear.
