Apparition,6,7Irene Finch had specifically asked for the tables to be left in place for the exam. If the sixth years were going to be licensed, then they would need to possess the ability to work with their surroundings. Apparating across an empty room was convenient for beginners to practice, but the chances of apparating to a truly empty space were going to be slim to none in the real world. There'd be tree filled forests, garbage strewn alleys, and perhaps the occasional field or valley. This would be an especially important test for those students who were interested in Ministry positions as apparating was a requirement for many of the positions. It was an important skill, allowing independence of movement.

Certain that she was prepared, Irene stepped out to greet the students who were waiting just outside the Great Hall. The students were seated on the benches that had been provided to await their turn. "Good afternoon" she greeted, her icy blue eyes taking them in one by one. "In a moment, I'll begin calling you in alphabetically by your last name. Once I do, I'll ask you to apparate to a spot in the room. You will only get one shot. I will not pass you if even a hair...or button remains where you once stood." Irene's gaze drifted by one student in particular. Irene let them sit with that for a moment, wanting it to be clear because she hated the annoying begging for another chance that came when a student failed. She looked at their faces, wondering which ones she would be seeing in the courses that were provided by the Ministry throughout the year. Many people failed the exam on their first try, but the woman did nothing to reassure the students of this fact.

Stepping back into the room, where her clipboard was already charmed to take notes, Irene glanced at the list and then called the first student forward. Once the student was inside, Irene shut the door tightly and began the exam.

Roleplay your character's attempt to apparate to a point in the room. Don't forget that the Great Hall would look as it would on a regular day minus the students. :p

You will get an exam grade of A or T depending on whether you roleplay your character succeeding or failing. Extra credit will be given for the level of detail in your roleplay regardless of passing or failing. Feel free to godmod Irene if it is necessary to your roleplay. If you have any questions, PM me. No replies will be accepted beyond Wednesday, July 19.

Bob Masters was nervous as he entered the Great Hall, but smiled at their instructor as he walked past and took his spot in order to begin his exam. He'd managed to successfully apparate during the previous lesson and he felt he would probably be able to do it now but there was always a chance he might mess up. He took a spot and focused on what the professor was asking on him before he repeated the three D's in his head. He focused on the spot that the instructor had pointed out and closed his eyes to run through the three D's before he willed himself to apparate and when he opened his eyes he was across the room. He had done it! He smiled, and then headed off to the common room with a big smile.

Darcy was extremely nervous for her Apparation exam today because this was one of the most important tests of a wizard's life. Since they weren't allowed to practice outside of their lessons, Darcy had done the next best thing and read up on as much as she could on the subject. Re-reading the same things she had already read throughout her lessons. But she had also read that they could retake the test multiple times if they failed today, but Darcy Pratt was not a failure, so she needed to nail it. She had already apparated quite a few times during their lessons before, but those were under controlled instances and she half expected them to throw something at them for the exam, like having something chase them so they'd have to apparate while running away from them. The idea made Darcy's stomach flip with anxiety, but she tried not to get carried away with her thoughts. Instead she focused on the Three D's obsessively; if there wasn't charms preventing them from apparating in the castle, she was sure she'd probably have apparated on the spot by how hard she was concentrating.

Darcy looked up when the instructor came out to speak to them, just in time too before she gave herself a headache. She listened to her announce how the exam would go and swallowed when she mentioned hair because that meant she had noticed the first time Darcy tried to apparate and left strands behind. But the redhead came prepared that day. She wore her hair up in an elegant it-looks-like-she-didn't-try-but-she-really-did messy bun on top of her head to keep her hair concentrated in one mass area instead of in her usual loose curls where they were vulnerable to be lost in transit. Darcy fidgeted and smoothed down her hair once more as the woman went back into the Great Hall and waited for her name to be called, tapping her feet nervously the whole time.

When it was her turn, Darcy stood up and took a deep breath. As she walked into the Great Hall, she stopped in her tracks for a moment, caught off guard by all the house tables and seats in place where they usually were instead of against the wall. It was a completely normal scene, but she'd been expecting an empty room like their lessons had been. But the Slytherin didn't want to show any shock on her face so she quickly schooled her face and walked towards the Slytherin table since she was so used to doing that. She knew there would be a twist but at least there was nothing chasing them like she had feared. Tables in the way she could handle. Darcy turned to look at the instructor to wait for directions on where to Apparate. She looked over at the area where the instructor had indicated she had to travel to and nodded briefly. It was near the Ravenclaw table, the furthest table away from her House's table where she was currently standing by. Darcy had been near that table lots of times because of the times she used to eat with Zara there, and now her girlfriend Olivia. Darcy was well familiar with that part of the hall, especially with the tables in place. She could do this.

She inhaled once more and swallowed her nerves as she could feel her heart pounding in her ears. Darcy briefly closed her eyes as she imagined the area. She could even imagine what the table felt like up against her hip as she sometimes leaned against it. She opened her eyes after she felt like she had her destination locked in her mind, resisting the urge to pat her hair down so as not to give away the fear she had of leaving behind a strand, and in the blink of an eye she felt that feeling she was now familiar with. Darcy couldn't breath as everything around her tightly compressed against her body. Even after she'd successfully landed in the exact spot the instructor had pointed to her, she still couldn't breath because she had been holding her breath from nervousness. She let out a small huff of relief once she looked down and saw that all of her made it in one piece, again resisting the urge to pat down her head. If, by some chance, she had left some hairs behind she didn't want to give it away. Darcy tried to contain her proud smile as she nodded towards the instructor as she dismissed her and walked out of the hall.

It was time for his apparition exam, and he felt that the stakes were higher - especially with all of the nice, big obstacles he could get himself stuck in. He scratched his head awkwardly at the comment of buttons being left behind, remembering quite well the fact that he had lost one of his own. That would not happen this time, he decided, especially since he wanted to ace this. Sitting quite comfortably, waiting his turn, Hamish kept reminding himself of the purpose of all of this, in the hope that it would inspire some semblance of calm and clarity. By time it was his turn to apparate, he had managed to cultivate a shell of chill to encase himself with, and guard from any distractions. He wasn't even going to bother wasting his time glaring at Bob. He had the three Ds down, and he was determined to ace this.

Hamish took note of his surroundings, paying more attention than he had ever done to the obstacles in his path. He also paid close attention to where he wanted to go, how he'd get there, and exactly everything he wanted to get there (including his buttons). He took a deep breath after a moment of contemplation. That sickening feeling came over him once more as he began to apparate, the feeling of compaction something he was sure he would never grow accustomed to. His eyes were screwed shut when he finally apparated to his destination. In response, he quickly opened them and had a look around, trying to hide his nerves with relaxed anticipation. He wasn't entirely sure how well he carried it off, but every part of him and his attire was accounted for (he made a quick count of the buttons), and left upon dismissal.
