An Unlikely Friendship

It was a week into the term, and Gemini had already sent her family two letters, one to Aquarius and one to Leo. So far nobody had teased her about her name, but she hadn't made any friends. Gemini was too much of a wallflower for people to talk to her, too shy to say anything. Gemini smoothed down her light pink dress and began walking around outside. The sky was blue, the sun was shining, but a cool breeze whistled around the small girl.

She wished she had a jacket, but Gemini hadn't bought any with her: she hadn't thought New Zealand would be this cold! The lake beckoned to the brunette, and since Gemini had nowhere else to go, the lake was where she headed. The Black Lake was named for a reason, she realized, staring at the inky water. Something in the water stirred, and Gemini leaned forward, trying to catch a glimse.

Gemini had leant too far over, and with a cry of terror, Gemini disappeared beneath the midnight waves. The edge of the lake was deeper than she had expected, and she couldn't touch the bottom at all! She scrabbled with her hands, paddling to the surface. But Gemini had never learnt how to swim, so she was in big trouble. Her head broke the surface, and she spart out water before she sunk under again. Gemini flailed desperately, her legs kicking as hard as she could. The blackness threatened to engulf her, as she continued to lash out.

Her head broke the surface again, and a lungful of air was all she managed before disappearing again. No, I can't give up! Gemini thought, trying in vain to get herself out of the lake. Somebody, help!

Katie sat peacefully, leaning against a willow tree, reading a textbook. Transfigutation was her favorite subject, casting spells came naturally to Katie. Suddenly she heard a scream and a splash. She looked up, and saw a girl toppling into the water. Katie gasped and got up, forgetting about her book. To Katie it looked like the brunette girl couldn't swim. Katie wasn't a strong swimmer, but she ran over to the lakeside to see if she could help.

Katie saw the girl was drowning, and tried not to panic. She tried to grab the other girl's hands, and after a few seconds, she grabbed a hand. Katie let out a silent scream: she was staring to fall into the water too!

(Lame :p)

"I'm not a princess, this ain't a fairytale." Becca sung as she danced around the lawn. Singing was fun; better than studying anyway. Gabriella was following the youngest Hogwarts Marino around, trying to 'help' her with potions or whatever. Gabriella often lurked in the library, so Becca knew to steer clear of the fourth floor.

As she drew nearer the lakeside, she noticed a brown-haired girl looking like she was about to fall in the lake. Becca, being Becca, had to go find out what was happening. Becca was too curious for her own good, Maxwell always said so. She saw the drowning girl, and that the other girl was close to losing her balance. "Here." Becca said, grabbing Gemini's other hand pulling.

Gemini felt hands around her wrist, and found herself being pulled up. The brunette's lungs were threatening to explode but now she was saved. Gemini slipped closer to unconscionuss every second she was submerged, and the blackness that was the lake stopped her frenzied thoughts. Suddenly... Air. The sudden rush of air felt like fire and ice rushing into her lungs. Gemini crawled onto the grass, coughing up water.

"Thank. You." was all the girl managed before blacking out.
