Alyss was sitting next to the lake, bawling her eyes out. She couldn't believe that despite her father being in Slytherin, and his family being in Slytherin, she had just been sorted into Gryffindor. The sorting hat had told her that 'it didn't matter what house your family had been in, and that he was going to sort her into the house that she belonged in.' She had begged the sorting hat to place her in Slytherin, but she was too nice or reckless, the traits that her father mocked of when he spoke about the houses of Hogwarts to her. She and he had both expected, and hoped that she would be a Slytherin, and he had threatened her that if she wasn't a Slytherin she would be disowned. A Ravenclaw wouldn't have been too bad, a Hufflepuff would've been better than a Gryffindor as well, but a Gryffindor! She was sorted into Gryffindor!
Her father had also been a Death Eater, and she had been brought up thinking that she was going to be a Death Eater as well, but who would accept a Gryffindor. It was bad enough that she was half-blood, because her father had been tricked by a muggle as he told her, and then he had woken up from it, and divorced her instantly. Alyss never understood how her father could've been tricked by a muggle of all people, but she knew that her father wouldn't lie to her. Whenever he said something he always told the truth.
'Why me?' She sobbed. 'Why couldn't I have just lived up to the expectations of my father?' She supposed it was because despite her father hating muggles and mud-bloods, and trying to force Alyss to hate them as well, thinking that they were scum, which resulted in Alyss being half-scum, she didn't understand. If they had magic, then they couldn't be that bad. But she didn't like the muggles because when Alyss sent her mother a letter when she was five, not long after her parents had divorced, she had received a nasty reply from her mother saying that she didn't want anything to do with Alyss, that she could go and turn herself into a toad or something with her freaky magic, and that her mother was very happy now with a much better family. She also mentioned that she hated Alyss. That was the reason why Alyss and her father got so close since they both had a common enemy, but now that was all ruined. Was Alyss going to be sent to live with her mother now? The thought of that made her cry even more.
