- OOC Writer Comment: As some may know Hogwarts Scotland features a Whomping Willow. Something which is intriguing in of itself and as I read through the lesson prompt by Professor Cyndi Kingsley and idea sparked in my head which lead to me writing out a well over 1000 word lesson reply. After asking Cyndi about it however, the decision came back that there isn't in fact a Whomping Willow near where the class was gathering wood for their runes. So this is what could have happened had muggleborn November found an innocent looking Whomping Willow tree in the forest. Note, this will probably be a little more extreme than what I would have posted if there was a whomping willow in the forest.

November sighed as the temperature seemed to grow rapidly even though winter was supposed to on its way. They were entering the Autumnal Season in New Zealand and summer seemed to be having its last big blowout. She listened to the Professor not very excited to go search for a willow in the middle of a forest. She did have a laugh when the Professor said they were going to talk to the trees. That seemed a little silly to a muggleborn. But she went, nevertheless, walking beside Flavio along the way glad he was being friendlier with her again. He had been distant since the beginning of the semester and November worried she had done something wrong to upset him during the Yule Ball. Focusing on the task at hand November was glad to be looking for a tree different from Flavio's. A willow, she was looking for a willow tree in the middle of the forest. She waved towards Flavio as he seemed to find his tree and continued deeper in glancing back to make sure she knew where her Professor was and how far she was going. The rest of the class was elsewhere, probably not too far away from the Professor as well. It was then she found a massive willow tree standing in the forest. It was swaying slightly and she thought it was beautiful and she carefully walked towards it trying to respect it like the Professor said. "Er, hello there?" She said, although it was more of a question towards the tree. She glanced back and could see Flavio at his tree an oak, but this willow seem all on its own. There weren't other trees very close to it, she knew trees didn't really have emotions like humans, but it made her think they were scared of this weeping willow for some reason.
"Uhm, so I need to make runes for my class and I picked willow, which is you," November started but stopped when she thought she felt something on her back. Jumping, she spun around but nothing was there. Just the long hanging leaves of the willow tree. Sighing she turned back to face the trunk enjoying the sound of the rustling leaves, not even noticing there wasn't a wind to accompany them. "So I need to probably climb up on you if possible. I need a branch just about two feet long. About an inch thick to two inches," she said as she looked up at the slowly swaying branches, feeling a bit silly. "Oh right. I guess I'm meant to offer you something. Uh....." November looked around wondering what she could give the tree. A piece of paper from her bag would be similar to giving it a dead tree, no that wouldn't work. Ink would likely end up being bad for the tree. She spotted the bracelet on her wrist. The one she wore every day and never took off. Her sister had the same bracelet in her own favorite color. November's was yellow like her house color. The knotting was meant to represent how their bond would never fade over time, they were twins. For November it didn't hold the same meaning as it had when they first got the bracelets. Biting her lip slightly November slipped the bracelet off for the first time in months. The skin underneath was paler in comparison to the rest of her arm.
November was surprised about, she hadn't thought she'd ever tan very well. Looking at the willow again the faintest idea that something looked different about the tree crossed her mind but she didn't know what. Maybe her mind had changed her memory of what the tree had looked before. Moving towards the closest low hanging branch November moved to put the bracelet on the tree. But it shocked her when the tree seemed to move on its own away from her. Another branch, on close to the size of her arm appeared in front of her. Looking up November felt scared, more than she ever had felt before at the school. "I guess this will do, won't it? A bracelet for a branch," November said as she slowly put the bracelet on the tree. Afterwards the willow tree moved all its branches upwards away from her. She was shocked, it seemed to be thinking almost, November was unsure what to do. She had to get a branch in return for her bracelet. She decided to do the Gryffindor thing, as their Professor was the head of Gryffindor and bolted towards the trunk and started to climb the tree, saw in hand, to get one of the smaller branches of the tree. But first, angry the tree had taken her bracelet and offered nothing in return November kicked the trunk of the tree. The willow shifted and swung towards her, but seemed to not want to hit itself.
November screamed, and jumped from the tree pulling her wand out. Although, any thoughts of spells and what she could possible do flew out of her mind. She held her wand pointed towards the tree her thoughts wondering what she should do. The tree swung another branch towards the young Hufflepuff and she moved away as it hit the ground right where she had been standing. Shaking in her boots, metaphorically as November wasn't wearing boots, the girl tried to figure out where to run. She knew she had to run away from this tree, perhaps the Professor could help stop the tree as she was sure it would chase her through the forest. Professor Kingsley wasn't very far from her, she thought. But, she needed the branch. The tree took her bracelet and in kind November needed the branch. She yelped again as a large branch came swooping towards her and she ducked down. No sooner were her thoughts answered however as the branch collided with another and a larger branch than she needed feel off the tree to the ground. Quickly November found the saw again and started trying to take one of the smaller branches off. Whip! The tree knocked her saw to the ground and seemed to follow after it for a moment and November did the only thing she could think to do which was to start running from the tree. She picked herself up and took ahold of the large branch on the ground and started to run back towards where she had last seen the Professor.
November thought briefly Flavio wouldn't be far from her, but her mind was in too much of a crazed fear to think to run to him. She could hear the tree snapping behind her but she didn't want to look back. Something told her not to, just keep going. A large crashing behind her told her she was still alive and out of range for now but she kept going on tugging the branch as it seemed to catch on something else. Her hair was hanging in her face and November could hardly see what was happening but her branch finally gave way and she toppled to the ground and felt a great weight on her, and wondered if the tree had finally gotten her. But it was Flavio, who seemed to have jumped and pushed her away from a branch that had been swinging in from behind her.
