Emmanuelle felt really quite out of place here. While it wasn't as bad as Beauxbatons, there was the fact that her English wasn't brilliant and as such she wasn't great at holding down conversation. She really wanted to make a few friends - she'd always been such a loner at Beauxbatons - but here it was hard to talk to people when she had to think very carefully about what she said before she said it. She carried a dictionary in her bag all the time, and it was embarassing to have to reference it all the time. But she was learning, really she was. Her father only spoke English, and barely knew any French, so there were occaisionally breakdowns in communication there, but he was helping her learn, and Emmanuelle was trying her heart out and she really was improving. She just still had trouble.
But New Zealand was her home now, and she had to get used to it. As far as she was concerned, her mother was probably glad of the loss of extra responsibility, and her father certainly seemed happy to have her around the house. She even managed to get smiles and affection out of her shy and scared Uncle Adrian. It was so nice to have people smile at her because they liked her. Emmanuelle really liked feeling appreciated and loved. She always downplayed her Veela blood, in the hope that people would like her for who she was. Of course, she was a bit of an oddball - so perhaps people stayed away from her for that reason - but Emmanuelle was really lovely and sweet, once you got around the strangeness. She just hoped someone else other than Violet, her roommate, would see that. She figured she had a real chance of making friends here, as opposed to Beauxbatons, and she was definately going to be taking that chance.
