Background information:

Alicia Barker is a former student of the original Hogwarts. She was a Ravenclaw student, but was placed unfairly, she thought. Alicia is one of three children born to Annabella and Geoffrey Barker. Both of her parents had attended Hogwarts and both were Slytherin. Alicia's oldest brother, Malcolm, also attended Hogwarts and also was a Slytherin. Her other brother, the middle child, Damian, was also a Slytherin. So when Alicia got sorted into Ravenclaw, she of course was upset. She did not neccessarily believe in a lot of the viewpoints of the Slytherin, but she felt that was her place. Even so, Alicia didn't complain.

Her family was very wealthy, so Alicia grew up very priveleged, spoiled in fact. Her parents owned a great deal of land, and had hired help for all of it. They also owned and operated many different mills around the community. The Barkers never worked, they had people hired who did everything for them.

There was a poor village nearby that Alicia often snuck off to. There was a little boy who she met and later became friends with. He was a poor boy, so she tried not to ever flaunt her wealth. The boy's name was Severus Snape.

Alicia and Severus grew up together, and then attended Hogwarts together. They were the same age and were virtually inseprable. Which was another reason why Alicia was disturbed by being sorted into Ravenclaw. Of course, they didn't do many things in public; especially when he started having a crush on Lily Evans. Nonetheless, Alicia graduated top of her class and went on to study abroad. There was little documented about her at that time, and she rarely speaks of it.

While she was traveling, she ran across a beautiful piece of land located in New Zealand and fell in love with it. There was a giant lake around 3/4 of it, and a giant castle. She immediately moved in after purchasing it, but soon became lonely by herlself. Her family visited, but that wasn't enough. She had too much space for just herself, she felt it a waste. She began to think about selling it, when a letter arrived from her old friend Severus Snape. She hadn't spoken to him since they had graduated, which was roughly fifteen years prior, so the letter came as some of a surprise. In the letter, Severus spoke about his Professor position at Hogwarts and that he had always dreamed of being a Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor, but was always being overlooked. This of course was nothing unusual, Severus was always overlooked; a very shy boy who kept to himself all his life led to that. This news was suprising to Alicia, she wondered how he could handle being a Professor with his personality, but decided she was happy for him if it was what made him happy. He also spoke of a young boy, who was the son of some of Alicia's fellow classmates. The boy was Harry Potter, and of course Alicia knew who that was; who wouldn't know who he was. Severus spoke of Harry with much dislike, but knowing Severus as she did, Alicia could read the true words beneath the written ones. She could tell that Severus was simply airing his old feelings that had made him bitter toward James and Lilly Potter.

The letter Alicia recieved made her homesick, and she decided to return to her old home to visit her parents. She thought she would discuss what she should do with her home with them.

When she arrived, she saw that nothing much had changed. Her brothers of course, had long ago moved out and started their own lives. She visited her parents for a while, then went to Hogwarts to visit.

Upon her arrival, she was ushered to Professor Dumbledore's office, who she knew to be the Headmaster of Hogwarts. They spoke to each other, recalling many fond memories. After nearly two hours of talking, Alicia thought once again about her castle in New Zealand, and thought maybe she could discuss it with him. After she described the large castle and the grounds, Professor Dumbledore sat back and ran his fingers through his beard. After several minutes of this, Dumbledore finally leaned forward and started speaking slowly. He told Alicia that he had been thinking (as well as the Ministry of Magic) of creating a branch of Hogwarts. There was simply too much of a demand to attend Hogwarts and they were running out of room. That was when he suggested Alicia use it as another branch of Hogwarts. Now it was Alicia's turn to sit back thoughtfully. Many thoughts ran through her mind. She wondered if she could really take on the responsibility of all those children, the Professors, all of it. She started to shake her head to tell him, no, she could never handle all of it, when Dumbledore held up his long forefinger. He told her to think about it and get back with him.

When Alicia left the school, her head was swimming with all the possibilities. Of course she would love to have all the people in her home and she would love to hear all the voices filling the hallways, but she was still unsure. Still in deep thought, Alicia forgot all about seeing Severus; which was something she regretted later. Fifteen years can do so much to a person, which is true, because Severus and Alicia passed each other in the hallway without recognizing the other. With a polite nod, they both continued on their way.

Alicia arrived at her parents house and then discussed with them what Dumbledore proposed. Her parents didn't think it was a good idea; they always thought Alicia too much of a know-it-all. Alicia suddenly became very angry and made up her mind to open the school.

With new determination, Alicia returned to Hogwarts and accepted Dumbledore's offer.

The next year went by in a whirlwind of excitement. The endless meetings, the forms to fill out, the frequent visits to the Ministry of Magic, all of it taking up all of Alicia's time. She had yet to return to her home. Finally, once all things had been taken care of and the proper permits in order, Alicia returned home to New Zealand. Upon her arrival, she found that her cousin Bearse Prosinian was waiting at the castle. She invited him in and told him of everything that would be taking place in her home. All the preparations made her head spin, but she still maintained. When Bearse heard about this, a sly smile spread across his face. He then volunteered to help Alicia out and become a partner. Well, of course this meant another trip back to the original Hogwarts where Bearse had to be added to all the lists.

Finally, nearly four years later, Alicia and Bearse were able to begin the adjustments to the castle. Suprisingly, this whole process only took two years. Once the Ministry heard of the completion of the castle, they began sending out letters to the many students. Slowly, more and more acceptance letters began to arrive, and soon the school was underway.
