*this takes place after the first Gryffindor practice of the year.

As the practice finished up, Rose breathing heavily after a good practice, yet thrilled at the progress she'd made with the team, she watched as the team started leaving the pitch. She was sweaty and wanted to wash off, but she wanted to check in first. She'd heard that Veronica had been the alternate keeper before she'd been chaser and now with Rose having taken her spot, she was worried that the girl would be angry with her. She didn't like animosity really, even if she did have a penchant for drama and she didn't like the thought that someone might hate her for no reason. If they knew who she was and hated her anyway, that was different, it was something she could control, but someone hating her for basically no reason she couldn't deal with. She didn't even know if Veronica did hate her, but Teddy had chosen to put Rose as his alternate and still kept Veronica as an alternate as well, and Rose was in her preferred position. It just made her want to check in. So when there were enough people off of the field, she stepped in as Veronica was also getting ready to leave, broom in hand. "Uhm, hey...Veronica, can... do you hate me?" Better to just come out with it, right? They hadn't really gotten off on the right foot last year either. Veronica had been made her big sister in heta omega and after having seen her reaction in the Gryffindor house meeting, she'd tried to stay well away. Apparently Veronica had allowed it because she hadn't come looking for Rose either.

Quidditch practice was starting to feel like a waste of Veronica’s time, she never played in the games and there seemed to be no sign of her making the team anytime soon, not now Teddy was co-captain, he would veto her place on the team until they both graduated. So why did she bother? Veronica was as always one of the last to head down to the ground as each time she was in the air it felt like it might be her last, she never knew if she’d get dropped or put in detention for running her mouth. It was really annoying. As she made her way toward the changing rooms she was stopped by Rose, she hadn’t spoken to the younger Gryffindor much despite being her assigned big sister in Heta Omega, so she was surprised to be stopped by her. “No…I don’t hate you, why would you think that?” Other than her general demeanour, but that wasn’t specific to Rose. “The only person I hate on this team is Teddy…maybe Ivy,” It wasn’t Ivy’s fault she’d gotten a spot ahead of the more experienced Veronica, but it didn’t mean she had to like her.

Rose blinked, honestly a little stunned by the honesty Veronica was giving her, and maybe a little relieved? She hadn’t wanted to be hated simply for being a better flyer, or better for the position, but she wasn’t stupid enough to say such things in anyone’s face. She thought she was better than Teddy too, she wasn’t about to tell him that though, she wasn’t an idiot. “Oh… well, okay, that’s… that’s good,” she said, gripping her hands slightly in front of her, because now she didn’t really know what to say actually. Shoving them behind her back felt like she was being too obvious though, and she didn’t know why she was nervous when Veronica had just said she didn’t dislike her or hate her. “I just- I wasn’t sure, y’know? I mean, you were pretty scary during house meeting, and then we didn’t really talk at all last year even though you were supposed to be my big sister, and now I’m suddenly on the team and I heard you were, like, alternate Keeper before, so I didn’t know if this was a ‘you stole my spot’ kind of vibe or not.”

She didn’t think it would be fair to do that to Veronica, but she also wasn’t going to tell Teddy to give her a spot over her either, because sometimes that was just what happened in a team, she was sure her mum had to make plenty of decisions like that over the years too. She would rather not have to start making them at this age, but she didn’t really have a preference either. “I don’t actually want to steal anyone’s anything, for the record. I just… really love playing. Like, a lot.” Her expression softened a bit, and she was eager to maybe make something of a friend out of Veronica. She didn’t want to be rivals with someone she admired.

“I think you’re cool. Scary sometimes. But cool. And I don’t want you to hate me over something I didn’t mean to do. That’s all.” She didn’t know what the beef was with Teddy, but she wasn’t about to try to get to the bottom of it when the two of them had clearly been sort of annoyed with each other for a really long time. She didn’t really know about the beef with Ivy either, though there was obviously something there too, “And hating Teddy I’m sure is valid… he does seem like he can be a bit…” she gestured vaguely but tried not to say anything incriminating.
