It was Rue's first day in her new school. She never liked changing schools, but this time she didn't care. She had no friends to miss.
She slung her backpack over her shoulder, finding her new uniform uncomfortable and itchy. Starting a new school was always like this.
Rue wondered what embarrassment she would be going through today. It was always the same - She would make a fool of herself, blush, and then never speak to anybody again. All she needed to do was keep her head held high, and everything would be OK.
Probably.

Rue started to walk along the lake's edge. She knelt down by the water and dipped her fingers into it. It was icy cold. Rue shivered, wiping her fingers on the grass. Everything was so different here. She didn't belong in here. She was a shy, tiny little girl who didn't know a thing about magic (Mainly because she hadn't been paying attention), and this really wasn't the school for her. She held back the tears, slipping off her shoes and dipping her toes into the lake. It was cold, yes, but she like the stab of pain that shot up her leg. It made her feel real. It was the only way she could ever tell. Pain.

Footsteps. Rue jumped, turning her head and pulling out her wand from her pocket self consciously. But it was only another student. She sighed, putting her wand back in her pocket.
'Sorry.' She said quietly, knowing this conversation wasn't going to go anywhere. 'I wasn't thinking. She added, wiggling her toes and making ripples in the water.

It wasn't a common thing for Veronica to been seen in the frozen grounds. Would it have been autumn, spring or summer she would be having the time of her life on a Sunday like this however she was bored and some snow fights seemed like they could be the solution to relieve her. After putting on some warm clothes she went to the grounds which to her dismay were deserted. A couple of first years were playing with the snow far out towards the Qudditch pitch and first year company wasn't was she was seeking.

Her eyes trailed down to the lake where she spotted a female figure. She walked down to the lake and was taken by a little surprise when she noticed that the girl had her wand out. Veronica noticed that the girl was dipping her feet into the chilled water, maybe she didn't know how fast she was about to get a cold. "Its okay" she told her with a smile. "Doesn't the water make you shiver?"she asked her with curiosity wondering if the girl was cold resistant or something. "I'm Veronica White and you?" she asked as she extended a hand towards the girl.

Rue kept still, like prey hiding from it's predator. Her big blue eyes gazed towards the girl, who was called Veronica.
Pausing for a moment, unsure whether to reply, Rue felt awkward and uncomfortable.
'No.' She replied finally. 'I like the water.' Her pale cheeks were white as ever, and getnly lowered her whole foot into the water. She smiled, hands outstretched behind her, supporting her tiny fragile body. As a ripple touched her ankle, she gave a tiny shiver, and the giggled bashfully.
'I'm Rue.' She whispered, picking a small blue plant and tucking it into her wavy brown hair. She had a habit of talking quietly. It just didn't seem quiet to her.

As Rue turned her head to look at the view, the world kept on spinning. Her heart thumped, and her hands felt clammy. Now she was shivered - but she wasn't cold. She was hot.
'I.. I'm.' Rue stuttered quietly and scaredly, 'I just I need to..' Rue felt confused, upset, tears welling up in her eyes. She just wanted this feeling to go away..

Veronica was a little surprised to hear the girl's answer. How could someone not freeze in this cold water? Veronica watched Rue dip her whole foot into the water and then put a flower in her hair. Her voice was low and she was pretty, Veronica couldn't remember seeing this girl around the school so she took it that she was a transfer. "You're new right?" she asked Rue with a smile as Rue turned to face her.

Veronica observed that Rue was now shivering slightly, whether it was the cold or fear of something she could not tell. She heard her words and watched her confused face and her blue eyes turned teary. "Rue...everything okay? Are you scared of something?"she asked as she stepped closer to the girl and held her hand. "Don't worry...you can tell me anything" she told Rue hoping that the girl wouldn't be shy to talk it out.

Rue shut her eyes, and took a deep breath in. Slowly, she began to feel normal, although she didn't dare move too quickly again.
She opened her eyes, looking up at Veronica with an expression of fear plastered on her petite face.
Feeling a hand in hers, she winced, not with pain, but again with fear. She wanted to trust this girl... it seemed right.
Rue swallowed hard, keeping back the tears. She couldn't understand why she was upset. Everything seemed so confusing, as if she were sick.
'I..' Rue started, biting her lip. 'Perhaps I have the flu or something.' She muttered quietly, knowing this was not the case and hoping Veronica would buy the pityful excuse. She placed a hand on her forehead, and was surprised at how hot she was. But it couldn't be the flu - it had been going on for months now.

Rue looked out to the water, her feet still submerged in its blissfull tranquility. She felt like smiling, but couldn't quite force one out. Then she gave a silent sigh, and told Veronica the truth.
'I don't want to be scared any more!-' Was as far as she could go before she burst into blubs of tears. Embarassed, Rue pulled her legs up to her chest, and buried her head in them.

Veronica watched Rue look at her with fear in her eyes. The girl looked deeply troubled by something and Veronica was growing concerned. Veronica gave her an encouraging smile as Rue started to speak. "Oh.." she said a little surprised to hear that Rue was sick. She felt the girl's forehead and the heat reaching her hand was just confirming what the new girl had said. Just as Veronica was about to offer taking her to the hospital wing, Rue said that she didn't want to be scared any more and then burst into tears.

Poor girl, Veronica thought as she sat down beside Rue and placed a harm on her shoulder and gave her a one side hug. "Now..now. You don't have to be scared. I know this place looks so scary but once you find friends it won't be scary anymore" she said with a smile hoping that Rue would be encouraged by her words. "You see, you've just made a new friend, I'll help you" she added making sure Rue knew that Veronica would be there to help her. "And as for your flu...the Durmstrang nurse is an expert at this...she'll treat it in few minutes and if you be a good girl she'll even give you candy!" Veronica offered hoping that something would confirm the scared girl.

Rue shook her head, wiping her face with her sleeve. 'That's not it!' Rue cried. 'I.. I'm not scared of the school, I'm not scared of anyone.' She held her breath, her eyes shut, trying to blot the outside world out. She couldn't take it anymore. She needed to let it all out - explode.
'I'm scared, I need.. I..' A sweep of nausea swept through Rue. 'Help!' She screamed, trembling in fear. She wanted to hide, perhaps this was just a normal case of flu, but it didn't feel right. She was hot - but her face was pale, white in fact. She swallowed, trying not to be sick. She wasn't going to embarrass herself any more.

'Ok.'
She agreed, shivering. 'Lets.. Lets go..' She slowly stood up, ignoring the dizziness that made her want to be sick.
'Hos.. Hospital Wing.' She stuttered, losing her feet and almost ending up back on the floor. She steadied herself, crying silent tears and taking very slow steps towards the building with Veronica.
When she shouted Help, remember it was in French so unless V knows french, she wouldn't understand ^_^
Also, there's a plot thing that needs to be approved before I can tell you whats going on xD
Aand sorry for lameness. It's late :p

Veronica watched with confusion as Rue tried to explain her fear but failed. Then she couldn't take it anymore because Rue screamed something in a language she couldn't understand. Her temperature was rising and the color of her face was becoming white and she was shivering. Veronica nodded and stood up helping Rue get up although she was shaking. "It will be okay...the nurse will help you" she said as she led Rue into the castle and up a flight of stairs.
