A Splish And A Splosh

This school was so huge and pretentious that they had a whole lake on campus. Bradley had been just a little surprised to find this out and it was not something he had been expecting. And he had been told there were all kinds of creatures living in the lake, though he suspected this was just the older students trying to play a prank on him. Like hell, there wasn't anything dangerous lurking in the dark waters. And he decided that he wanted to prove this to everyone and to show that he wasn't some gullible kid like a lot of the other first years.

The Hufflepuff made a point of stomping extra loud as he walked to the water's edge, glaring out at the still lake for a moment. "If this is anything dangerous out there, please make yourself known now!" He announced, scanning the top of the water for anything that might appear. As he suspected, nothing happening, though he did bend over, picking up a rock near his shoe before bringing his arm back and chucking it as far as he could throw it, watching the splashes as it hit the water and quickly sunk.

That is when he felt a pair of eyes on him, turning his head a little to find not some dangerous creature standing there, but a girl. "What are you looking at?"

Eleonora couldn't believe the fact that she was actually at Hogwarts now; and in Hufflepuff nonetheless. As far as she knew she was the only Cade sorted into Hufflepuff she kind of liked it, despite wanting to be in Gryffindor with her cousins but that obviously wasn't her. This thought is what spurred her to make herself more available to her housemates and to be more friendly towards the other people in her year. After all, she couldn't rely on her cousins forever, especially when they all had their lives and friendships already established.

She decided to take a walk somewhere soothing and she immediately thought of the water and the closest thing to that at the castle was the Lake. She left the Hufflepuff Common Room and set off towards the Great Lake, hoping the open waters would offer her advice on leaving her cousins behind and making her own mark on the castle. However, when she arrived at the Lake there was already a boy wading through it and shouting at it as he did so. Eleonora raised her eyebrow at the boy's unusual behaviour and waited to see what he was going to do next as she walked closer to the waters edge. Unfortunately, the boy had noticed her watching him and Ellie foolishly looked around her, hoping that the boy was talking to someone else other than her. "Er... You I guess..." she answered "what are you doing?" she asked the boy in the water.

He was honestly almost a little disappointed that nothing jumped out of the water and tried to kill him, at least that would have been interesting. Then again, if he managed to survive he would have to admit that someone else was right, which was never happening if he could happen. It was always his opinion or nothing, even if it turned out the other party had been correct and he was wrong about it. Though as he stood there, both hands resting on his hips as he stared out at the lake, it seemed as though he was right about there nothing being dangerous lurking in the depths.

Or maybe there was and it just hadn't heard him to know it was lunch time.

His eyes moved and down the other girl for a moment, almost as though he was judging her just for standing there. Though his hard gaze softened after a moment as he shrugged his shoulder. "Some older student was saying there were all sorts of dangerous things in the lake waiting to kill us, so I wanted to prove him wrong," because that sounded like a sensible thing to do. Like a school would have things that wanted to eat the students hanging around. That would just be incredibly stupid and no doubt if that was the case people would get hurt and parents would sue the school for it as well.

 

[Caligo Mortem]

Caligo was rather hoping to be alone as he started further down the lakefront and away from the castle. He didn't usually find the outdoors enjoyable, but he presumed there would be less students there, maybe none. The youth was correct in his first guess, but he scowled as he spotted two others out by the lake besides him.

Caligo was already quite near them, and he stood there rather stiffly, debating on whether to go elsewhere or not when he heard one of them remark about what resided in the lake. 'Never been to the wizarding world prior to this, have you? If so, you would know that dangerous creatures are always lurking within bodies of water.' He scoffed coldy, not even bothering to mask his true character. Normally he played the angelic role when in the presence of others, but he was already in a nasty mood, and his twin wasn't currently here.

He was about to turn away from the girl again and ignore her when he heard the second voice, eyes sliding over towards the boy who had spoken them. Already Brad didn't like him, just from what he had said. Yeah, he might not have been born into all this magical nonsense, but at least he was thankful about all of that because it must mean he was pretty sane. This boy was stupid enough to believe that magic was real if he had been born believing it. Brad almost felt bad for him for having to put up with that kind of rubbish.

"So what if I wasn't?" He challenged him, almost daring him to say something else. "But this is a school, they aren't going to keep any student eating creatures in a lake on the grounds. If they did I would be surprised this stupid school hasn't been closed down yet." Yeah right, there was nothing in the lake to be scared of and nothing which was just waiting to make an appearance and attack him. He was more likely to find some colorful looking fish than any monster lurking in the depths. The ocean was far more dangerous than this lake would ever be, and people still went swimming in the ocean despite the fact there were sharks around who would happily eat you.

Eleonora raised her eyebrows something dangerous in the lake? Surely not she thought to herself. She immediately skipped closer so she was right next to the Hufflepuff boy and tried to look in his direction. Eleonora mimicked what the boy did and scanned the water for any sign of some kind of monster that inhabited the lake. "Well I can't see a thing. Maybe you should shout louder?" she offered, smiling at the boy "or throw something in the water?" she suggested. However, before either of them had the chance to try out Ellie's idea someone else had joined them and warned them about what might lurk in the lake. She grimaced and took several steps back "what could be in there?" she questioned the new boy who seemed to know a lot about it.

"Then that would mean you lived among muggles." Caligo shot back, saying the last word with pure disgust in his voice before giving the boy a hard stare. He almost gave a groan at his response, and he slipped his hands into his pockets, stalking closer towards the two. 'Dense.' was the only was Caligo would describe the other boy. "Like anyone can evict the creatures from their natural habitat? And if you haven't already noticed, we do things differently here." He replied, then giving the girl a look. At least she seemed like she had something of a brain up there.

"Nasty things. If you aren't careful they won't hesitate to drag you under there." He told her, his voice less harsh. "Anything from grindylows to merpeople make the lake their home." Caligo added, his eyes shifting to the surface of the water.

"I already threw a stone in, I was going to throw more," it seemed like the best way to get whatever might be lurking down there to make an appearance. Or it would just prove him right that there was simply nothing to worry about and those older students had just been lying. And they were lying about it no doubt about that. So he really didn't know why he was seemingly so invested in this, he should have just been confident in his own thoughts and left it at that.

His eyes narrowed a little at the way the boy scoffed the last word. Muggles. He'd heard that before, apparently, it was a word for non-magical people supposedly. Not that Brad still believed that magic was even real. "So what if I was?" He challenged, raising his brow as he folded his arms across his chest to stare at the boy. His eyes turned back to the lake for a moment, "If it was so dangerous then they wouldn't let students come near this place. You're just stupid if you think there is anything dangerous lurking at the bottom of the lake. Like the Professors would put students in danger like this and let us walk into danger. Honestly, I might think magic is stupid but no one in care of kids would do that."

Eleonora looked from the two the boys wondering if the situation could get any more awkward or hostile. The two boys were definitely not getting along and Ellie didn't want to be in the middle of their argument and she contemplated diffusing the tension. However, she waited too long and the boy that was from her own house became even more defensive. She backed away even further from the waters edge when the other boy began speaking about the things that might be in the water. She had heard of a couple of the creatures before but she didn't understand the extent to how dangerous they could be. "Maybe he's right, you might want to move back a bit" she said to the Hufflepuff boy, hoping he wouldn't argue with her too.

He bent over again to pick up another stone from by his feet, flipping it a little in his hand as he just ignored the other boy. He didn't know anything and he certainly wasn't going to change his mind and make him stop what he was doing. Though it was slightly disappointing that he was convincing the other Hufflepuff that what he was doing was a bad idea. Not that he was going to listen to either of them, he was just going to keep what he was doing and no one could stop him with stupid words about dangerous creatures who could drag him off. Yeah right.

"Nothing is going to happen to me," he responded, turning his head a little to look at the girl for a moment before he shook his head, "You move back if you want to, but I'm not going anywhere." It seemed as though she had backed off a bit, but he was staying put. At least, until he was either proved right or the other boy was and something came along who wanted to eat him. But that was just ridiculous to think about.
