A New School And A New Friend

OOCOut of Character:
Sorry this reply took so long. I was really busy with my other characters.

Angie smiled as she noticed that the basketball topic made Andrea happy. Flying was Angie's thing but basketball was Andrea's. She was finally making some progress. "I don't even know the basics." Andrea's smile made Angie smile. Then Andrea asked what her favorite NBA team was. Angie thought for a minute even though she only knew of one team and it was an American one. "I like the Los Angeles Lakers." Angie said.

"Well, I'll teach you then. You know how to dribble?" Andrea asked. She was very glad to hear all about the subject. Basketball is just her thing. She first learnt about basketball when she was about four years old. She knows she's a very small person to play this game but just can't refuse to go away from her favorite hobby. Her love for the sport even grew fonder when she met her favorite basketball player, Kobe Bryant, even if Kobe's team isn't her favorite one. "L.A Lakers? Cool. Kobe Bryant is such an amazing athlete. My favorite team, in case you might ask is Boston Celtics but my favorite player is Kobe Bryant." Andrea proudly said.

"Sadly no, I do not know how to dribble. I do not usually play any sports." Angie admitted. Angie barely knew the rules of the game. Angie only knew of one basketball player and that was Dwayne Wade from Miami Heat. He was her father's favorite player. Wade did a whole bunch stuff that helped father's be good father's to their sons. Angie's father always wanted a son, but obviously he never got one. "My favorite player is Dwayne Wade."

Andrea frowned. This would take awhile, she thought to herself. Angie admitted that she doesn't know how to dribble and that made Andrea mood fell a little bit imperfect. "That's fine. I can teach you how" She said, adding a little smile. She hadn't taught anyone how to play basketball yet so she thought that this would take awhile for them to play an actual game. "Wade. Never seen him in real life but he's a nice player. You don't know who Bryant is?" Andrea curiously asked.

"I don't know many basketball players either." Angie had a feeling this conversation was going down the drain. Not good. Andrea was starting to lose interest as well. Angie really looked forward to learning some basketball from Andrea though. "I am sure I'll learn a few when you start teaching me basketball." Angie smiled. "Do you know how to do any cool tricks?"

The conversation was getting boring as minutes passed. It turned out, Angie knew only a few facts about the topic the two were currently conversing. This made Andrea sleepy. Sure, she loves basketball but talking about it with someone that's a bit clueless like Angie, bye bye conversation. "Oh" was Andrea's sleepy reply when Angie said she doesn't know many basketball players. Well, that makes sense, Andrea thought, adding a little smirk. "Yeah" said Andrea when Angie said she'll learn a few when Andi start teaching her basketball. "Yes. I know the trick called Around The World. Of course, I needed some time to master it." Andrea explained, "Maybe, I could teach you that when you mastered the basics". She went on.

Angie found it hard to focus on what Andrea was saying. She was getting quite tired and she saw Andrea was too. "Yeah." Angie said lowly. She looked at the clock behind Andrea, it was getting late. Angie sighed. She didn't want to stop talking to Andrea, but she didn't want to fall asleep on her either. Angie didn't have any topics she thought would interest Andrea in mind either. "What would you consider the 'basics' of basketball?" Angie asked curiously. She sould at least try and keep conversation, right?

Andrea had nothing special to do after this conversation she was having. All of her classes have been dismissed and she has no special meeting whatsoever from her friends. Obviously, her friend and role model, Briar Rowan was busy being a prefect and all so she just couldn't approach her and be all "Hey, can you teach me other more spells?" because that would just be plainly annoying. Andrea raised an eyebrow when Angie asked her another question. It was too obvious to her that Angie was somewhats bored but still wanted to keep the conversation alive. "There are many basketball basics. Eleven if I'm not wrong? Actually, the most important part is dribbling because if you don't know how to dribble, then playing basketball for you would be useless, shooting comes after that. Of course you need to know how to shoot, so that you would gain your team points. Passing comes next, then lay ups, jump stops, footwork, of course. Jab steps comes next, then screening, cutting, defense and rebounding." Andrea explained. As she was explaining this, she made sure that it was clearly and promptly so that Angie could understand it perfectly. "But, I'll teach you dribbling, passing and shooting first since you're still a beginner" She lamely said.

Angie listened carefully as Andrea explained the basics of basketball. Dribbling, shooting, footwork, jump shots, screening, cutting, lay ups, defense, jap steps, passing and rebounding. They all sounded pretty hard to her now. But she is sure that it would be as easy as flying once she learned some stuff. She imagined footwork would be complicated for her since walking without tripping is hard for her. "Guess what?"

This is surely gonna take some time, Andrea thought, adding a bored sigh. As what Andrea had observed, it seemed like Angie find what Andrea said difficult. Basic on the expression her face was currently expressing. Andi hoped she would learn dribbling, shooting and passing quickly so that they may proceed to the other difficult skills. Passing is easiest of what Andrea wants Angie to learn first. She's sure that Angie would learn it quickly since it's the easiest of them all. However, the hardest part of Andrea's training when she still was a five year old was shooting. She finds severe difficulty in shooting the ball since she has an awfully small height. She finds that a bit easy now though because she has grown height and well, she has enough height to jump and dunk the ball. "What?" Andrea anxiously asked. Angie had asked her to guess what. Andrea has no idea of what Angie wanted her to guess. She hates guessing when she's in a bad mood and this time is the worst time ever since she seemed to be tired.

Angie had to think quick. She didn't know what she wanted Andrea to guess. If she said something stupid (every word that comes out of her mouth) Andrea looked like she was getting ready to blow up on her. Angie didn't want that. "I am going to the Yule Ball. Are you?" Angie expected Andrea to get up and walk away after this statement. Not that she wanted her to, but the ball was something everyone was talking about. Angie really wasn't planning on going to the Yule Ball. At least not without someone to go with. But she was super excited for it. Who wouldn't be?

Andrea quickly sensed that Angie really hadn't meant blurting her question out. It looks perfectly obvious that she was surprised when Andi asked her what she wants her to guess. Andrea raised an eyebrow. Andrea was sure she was thinking of what to reply since she was blushing. She, however, did not seem to notice. It took awhile for Angie to reply and reply was about Yule Ball. She said she was going to it. Andrea rolled her eyes. She hates balls. Balls that are events not things since she perfectly loves basketball balls. Well, she only hates it technically since she hates wearing gowns and anything that involves skirt unless she wants or has to. And even if she wants to, she can't since she doesn't have a dress to wear to the ball. "I'm not. I don't have a dress" Andrea replied looking bored. She didn't want to say that she won't go to the ball because she thinks it's ridiculous, well, not out loud. And of course, she has to go with someone or she will look like a dork going there by herself. She doesn't know if Damien, Hariah, Jade or Briar would go so going there would just be a waste of time. Since Andrea knows Angie would just run out of things to say, "Are you going with someone?" She added.

"You're not going? You should go with me!" Angie suggested happily. Angie really did want to go to the Yule Ball. It would be better if she could go with a friend. She wouldn't be as lonely like she would if she went by herself. Andrea probably knew a few more people then she did. It would be a perfect time to make friends. "You don't have a dress? I don't either. We could, you know, just dress up in a nice skirt and shirt. Or really cool pants." Angie said. She wondered if there was a spell or charm that could make your clothes look stupendous. "Anyway, the ball is the perfect opportunity to make new friends and maybe meets some guys. Right?" Angie waited for Andrea's response.

So, the new topic was about Yule Ball. Well, this is the kind of topic Andrea really doesn't want to talk about. Not only that it's girlish but also.....ridiculous. Andi never really liked talking about dresses, make-up, girly accessories and most especially boys, well, not in that way. In fact, because Angie had already brought the topic up, Andrea was now praying inside her little brain that Angie wouldn't bring the boy-thing up. When Angie said the previous words that came out of her mouth, all Andi did was raised both of her brown eyebrows with matching bulged eyes. Oh, and it comes with an expression that expresses a lot of shock and a super read blush. Of course, Andrea just couldn't decline the invitation but it's not like she has a choice. Well, she has and it was; broke your friend's heart by declining or broke your reputation by wearing a ridiculous outfit. But of course, Andrea still had some pride so she managed to say "Uh, no thanks. Yule Ball is just isn't my thing". Andrea let out a huge sigh of relief when Angie said she also doesn't have a dress. Andi's eyes bulged even more when Angie said they could wear skirts or really cool pants. "Uh...Angie, let me remind you that it's a ball. And if it's a ball, you have to wear formal" She said, with a that’s-how-it's-done look plastered around her face. Andi analyzed Angie's previous comment verbally. Skirts, shirts and really cool pants flooded her mind. After fully analyzing the comment, Andrea rolled her eyes. She can't go even if she's not wearing a dress or a showy outfit since wearing a tux when you're a girl is completely ridiculous and irrelevant. Andrea's blush reddened when Angie said maybe they could meet some guys. So her prayers didn't exactly come the way she'd wanted to since Angie brought up the topic. Andrea, however just stared at her like what she said was a bad word. After a few minutes or so, she successfully recovered herself. "Well, yes but guys? What do you mean meeting some guys?" Andrea curiously replied, both raising her eyebrows. Even though she really knew what Angie was talking about, she still wanted to hear her Angie's part of the story.

Angie saw Andrea's start blushing when she brought up the topic of boys. Angie smiled like a fool. But then Andrea has shot down her idea about going to the Yule Ball with her. This depressed Angie a little bit. But she decided to explain herself on what she meant about meeting boys."You know. There are going to be guys there, and with us going to be looking so pretty. They're just bound to talk to us right? Angie smirked. She thought it would be fun to put on make-up, make her hair pretty and wear nice clothes. She had a feeling that Andrea was still stuck on not going. Angie got up from to sofa and walked around to Andrea. "Will you please go with me Andi? It will be fun and I don't want to go and have fun all by myself. Please, please, please, please, please?" Angie begged.

Well, this is a kind of topic Andrea really didn't want to talk about. Angie, however, was thoroughly enjoying it. When she saw Andi blushed, Angie quickly smiled looking somewhat foolish. Andrea really didn't know why, though. The thought of the dresses, make-up, boys and everything filled Andi's head. No way, she kept on saying to herself. But then, it hit her, her mother always sew dresses for her and she remembered her putting one or three of her sewn dress to Andi's baggage. And then she remembered the red dress. The one Andi and her mom always fought about because her mother always wants to her to wear it but Andi refuses to. After Angie finished her sentence, the thought of Angie wanting to talk to boys flooded Andi's mind. She opened her mouth as if to say something but no words whatsoever came out. Andi bit her lip. Going to the Yule Ball is truly going to be rotten for her. Maybe Angie was right, maybe boys would indeed talk to her but she's also sure that only one boy would talk to her and that is her Gryffindor friend, Damien Blade, if ever he would come. "Well, I really don't know" was Andrea's simple reply, accompanied by a wanting-to-throw-up look. Then, Angie stood up and walked around Andi and begged for her to come with her, not to mention saying her nickname. "How did you know my nickname?" Andrea demanded. No one ever calls her Andi that aren't on her neighborhood. Andrea hoped that Angie wouldn't notice that Andrea didn't answered her question but because of the look she kept on giving her Andrea replied "I really don't know Angie." She sheepishly said. Angie was looking a little depressed. Now, Andrea can be tough and super bossy when she wants to but when it comes to hurting people (the one that hadn't done anything to harm her physically), Andi really evolves; from a worm to a butterfly. She really don't want to hurt other people especially when they did nothing but be kind to her. But as of the moment, pride filled Andrea's head and she really hates it when someone says something again and again, not to mention her fiery temper so she blurted out without thinking "Stop it! I am not coming to that stupid ball! Not with you and not with anyone!" out loud, forgetting that Angie was a Hufflepuff.

"Well your name is Andrea and I just shortened it a bit. Angie said simply. Andrea looked fairly surprised that Angie had called her Andi. The look on Andrea's face was priceless. She really looked confused and her blushing brought a smile to Angie's face (that's not meant to sound creepy.). That smile soon faded away. Angie took a step back and away from Andrea. Andrea looked really angry, and she just finished yelling at Angie. Angie opened her mouth to say something back but she couldn't. Her voice would crack because tears started to fill her eyes. Angie started to wipe her eyes. "I'm sorry." she whispered with her voice cracking a tiny bit. Angie hated to cry, and especially in a room full of people. Some of the other students whispered and looked and her and Andrea. "This is embarrassing."Angie thought in her head. "I will leave you alone now." she said and start to walk away from Andrea. She didn't mean to make her so angry. She just didn't want to go to the Yule Ball alone. Angie couldn't look at Andrea, for she feared more tears would start flowing. But she really hoped that Andrea would stop her from leaving the lounge.

Andrea nodded when Angie told her she just shortened Andi's name. Somehow, she wasn't convinced by the other girl's reasoning. Angie's foolish smile suddenly disappeared and was converted into a frown and eyes that were filled with bright tears. Yes, Angie was hurt by what Andrea blurted out. However, Andrea seemed to take control of herself now. She was practically breathing a lot of air, like asthma or something. She felt the cold, annoyed look everyone in the room giving her and Angie. She felt like blowing up. She really hadn't meant to blurt that out. She was just so mad. This had happened before in Hogwarts. It was with Andi's friend, Damien, the only difference is that Damien was the first one to blurt out his anger and of course, Andi came next because of her fiery temper. The Gryffindor's heart sank in when she saw Angie's tears. They were ready to fall down like water falls in her eyes. She quickly apologized to Andrea about what she did. As she said it, her voice cracked, like what Andi's voice always become when she got into a huge fight with her mom over basketball. Andrea felt sorry for Angie. She was absurdly speechless that she hadn't said anything in reply to Angie when she apologized. The Hufflepuff took a step back and told Andrea that she would leave her now. She was obviously hurt of what Andrea did. The Gryffindor heard some whispering and turned her gaze towards them and gave them her dirtiest look. Fortunately, they looked away and started minding their own business.

Andrea really didn't care how embarrassed she should be now, instead all she felt was sorry and guilt. Andrea really hated it when someone cries because of her, especially if she's the one who started whatever it was they were fighting about. Angie started to walk away from Andrea and not looking back. Her eyes full of bright, fresh tears that looked like they couldn't take the commotion anymore. Andrea's little hands turn into fists. Not because of Angie but because of herself. What have I done?, she thought to her head over and over again. She seemed to forgot that Angie was a Hufflepuff and that most of the Hufflepuffs are sensitive yet loyal. She quickly stood up and followed Angie. She wanted to tell her how sorry she was for being such a jerk. She practically jogged to reach where Angie is. And when she reached her, she laid a hand on Angie's back and muttered the most honest words she had ever said "I'm sorry. I'm sorry for blurting that out. I really didn't meant to. I was just really surprised.", accompanied with a smile full of guilt.

Angie felt a hand on her back. Then she heard Andrea apologize. Angie turned around and looked at Andrea. She wiped away what was left of her tears way and hugged Andrea. "So will you go with me?" she asked.

Controlling temper is absolutely one of the things Andrea should work on now. She's just lucky nice people are the ones that encountered her annoying temper or else she'll get totally burned. Angie seemed to recover herself, though. She wiped her tears and hugged Andrea. Andrea was a bit startle at first, though but she hugged her back when she got back to her usual mind. The cold stares seemed to swipe away and that made Andi feel a lot better. "Do I have a choice?" she sarcastically replied when Angie asked if she'll go with her. Andrea just have to live with disappointment about this. Whether she liked it or not, she really has to wear the red dress her mom sewn and wear the last thing she wanted to try; make-up.

Angie let go of Andrea and grinned. "Really? Yay! Angie beamed. She didn't know that she would have to get her feeling hurt in order to get Andrea to go to the Yule Ball with her. It filled her with joy that Andrea said yes. She now didn't have to go alone and look awkward. Then another problem came to mind. Angie didn't have a dress. She never thought that there would be any balles or anything at Hogwarts, so she didn't pack any dresses or clothes for formal parties. "Andi," Angie said. "I don't have a dress." she admitted with a frown.

It's nice to know that Angie gave Andrea a chance. Andrea really shouldn't have let go of her temper in the first place. Even though she felt embarrassed wearing a dress and make-up and especially talking to boys in that way, she had to for Angie. She really didn't know why she was doing this in the first place, she just met Angie. "Yeah" Angie lamely said, "If you insist". The thought of having to meet with boys made Andrea want to throw up. Seriously, if Angie wants to talk to boys, she can talk to them herself. "Well, I could let you borrow one. I mean, I seriously own one. My mother sews me dresses. Maybe the black will suit you since the black is bigger than me, I'll wear the red one." She explained.

Angie smiled happily. Andrea said she could borrow her black dress that her mother made for her. She said that she would take the red one. "I can do your make-up and make you look even prettier that you do now! I won't go overboard with it though. I will keep it simple." Angie told Andrea. Angie couldn't wait to try on the dress Andi was going to let her wear. She really hoped it looked good on her.

Angie's happy comment made all the guilt feeling in Andrea's chest vanish. She was happy that the conversation was back into it's usual status. "Well, I don't really like wearing make-up. I'll just put a little powder on my face and maybe that thing that people put in their lips and it makes the lip shiny, what's that thing again?" Andrea asked, raising an eyebrow again. Andrea, maybe is an expert in basketball but she is an annoying idiot when it comes to girly things. Andrea can't even remember the last time she wore make-up. "I'll fetch the dresses in my dorm now. Maybe we could meet in the North Tower? I'll bring the blue dress in case the black is too big for you" She explained thoroughly.

"You mean lip gloss? I have tons! I never leave the dorm without it." Angie said. Basketball may be Andrea's thing but make up and hair styling was Angie's. It took her about two hours to get her hair looking perfect, thus making her wake up extra early to get ready for the day altogether. Andrea said she would go and get the dresses and they would meet in the North Tower. Angie had been there before. She had met a girl named Nephrolepis there. That girl had been in Gryffindor also. "Okay, I will see you there Andi. " Angie said and headed out the door; giving Andrea a brief wave.
