It was a beautiful day with blue open skies and a bright shining sun. The daycare's outdoor play area was bustling, but while most children might have been on the swings, Evander was occupied with a much more significant piece of engineering.

He was crouched near the roots of a large oak tree. Spread out before him was a makeshift blueprint—a piece of parchment weighted down by four smooth stones—detailing the mechanics of a deadfall trap.

"Structural integrity... check," he murmured to himself, carefully propping up a large woven basket with a notched stick.

Evander reached into his pocket and pulled out a square of paper. On it, he had used his brightest red and pink crayons to draw a strawberry shortcake. It was a crude drawing; the whipped cream looked a bit like a lopsided cloud and the berries were slightly oversized, but he hoped that this would entice a potential fairy into his trap.

He slid the drawing carefully into the shadow beneath the basket. Now, he just had to connect the tripwire. He began unspooling a long piece of twine, backing away slowly on his hands and knees to ensure the line wouldn't snag on rocks are any sticks. He needed a spot to hide where he could maintain a clear line of sight without alerting any approaching magical entities.
