Hugo had been looking forward to today ever since he had found out the date for the brightstone weekend. He had made sure he had it off work and was looking forward to seeing Teddy again. It had been two months since he had seen his boyfriend, and he had missed him. They had spent a lot of time together over the last holiday, as they knew that they wouldn't see each other much this year, though he wasn't sure now if that made the separation better or worse. It wasnt that he had bene pining over his boyfriend when he had been at school, at least not much. he had bene busy, he had got a job in a bookshop that wasnt his mums, which had kept ihm busy. He had obviously read a lot, glad that it was almost a requirement of the job so he could give recommendations, and a lot of the books were things he would usually pick up. He had stayed in contact with Teddy writing to him a few times though he didnt want to overwhelm him as he knew he would be busy with head boy duties, Quidditch and NEWTs. he had even been supprised when his mums mum had invited Teddys mum over for dinner a couple of times after they had gotten to know each other over the summer bonding a little over books and they had somehow managed to form an impromptu book club. Though it was slightly weird being him, his mum, and his boyfriend's mum.
Hugo had apparated to brightstone. It was still early, and the school gates hadn't even opened up yet when he reached them. His original plan for the day had been thwarted with the tea shop holding another speed dating event, and him not wanting to have to compete with the noise and chaos of that when he just wanted to be with Teddy. So he had to come up with another plan. ot wasnt a particularly complex one, mostly he had packed a few treats in a bag, and they could just spend the day together doing whatever they wanted. wandering the village, maybe hanging in the park or having lunch or a drink in one of the pubs he really didnt mind what they did, he was just looking forward to the day. he sat on a bench and drew his book out of his bag along with his flask of coffee and poured himself a small cup. He opened the book and started to read as he waited.
soon the gates opened with a slow creak of magic and he looked up as the students started to trickle out. Each time someone approached the gates, he looked up to see if it was Teddy. After a couple of minutes, he gave up reading and just sat with his coffee as students passed by down the road to the village.

Teddy had the upcoming Brightstone weekend in the back of his mind for ages, but between NEWTs, Quidditch, and the head boy responsibilities, he hadn't thought about it much past the feeling of being excited about it coming around. He hadn't had time to plan what he and Hugo would actually do, and left that bit entirely in his boyfriends hands. He’d made sure to do the important things to make the day happen though, like cancel Quidditch practice and clear his schedule to maximise on time. After all, he wasn't planning to return to the castle even one minute before curfew today.

That being said, he had left the castle a little later than he intended as he wanted to make sure his hair was perfect first. He’d been planning to make up the time by apparating the rest of the way once he cleared the school gates, but the moment he saw his handsome boyfriend sitting near the gates he forgot all about that. “Hugo!” Teddy called, his grin breaking. He quickened his pace until he was jogging, then running the last few steps before stretching out his arms and colliding into a hug with him. “Merlin, I’ve missed you,” he said, that hug quickly became a kiss.

hugo watched as a few groups ofpeople passed him. it had only been a few minutes but he was staritng to feel a little qeird sitting here watching kids leave the school. thankfully it wasnt much longer when he saw a familiar shape making its way down the drive. he couldnt help but smile just the sight of Teddy made him feel different. he put his drink down and made his way towards the gate he smiled as his boyfriend called his name. oh how he had missed that smile and easy smile. "Teddy" he called back waving as he he walked towards the gate speeding up as teddy got closer. They met halfway with a collision of a hug. he held him tight, his arms around his back. He could feel his face heat up as Teddy said that he missed him. It seemed time and distance hadn't helped his automatic blush reflex, if anything, it was regressing. "I've missed you s.. ah" so much he said the last word cut off as their lips found each other and Teddy took his breath away, leaving words to take a second priority to kissing and holding Teddy.

Teddy kissed Hugo, he might have sensed some first years gawking as they passed because they wouldn't have known who the head boy was kissing, but Teddy wasn't bothered by it, it was none of their business anyway. When he finally pulled back, he looked over his boyfriend’s face and smiled. "You look good,” he said happily, “More grown up.” He looked less the boy and more like a young man which was a good thing in Teddy's mind, “And still a great kisser." He didn’t give Hugo much time to respond before leaning in again for another kiss since he didn't want to stop yet. It felt like they had all the time in the world today.

Hugo could feel a warmth moving through his whole body from where Teddy touched him, and he leaned into his boyfriend, enjoying the warmth and closeness of him. One of his hands moved up Teddy's back and got lost in his hair. after a while that Hugo would not be able to say with anyconfidence if it was ten seconds or ten minutes they broke apart just enough that they could take each other in.
compliments about his looks always hut hugo a little differenty. Before, no one had ever really thought to comment on it. at least not as a compliment. it was always more dorky or geeky the best her ever usually got was bookish. So Teddy's compliments on his appearance had certainly had more of an effect on him than he might have expected. he was starting to take more pride in his appearence, and even he could tell he didnt slouch as much. "thank you. i got new glasses" he said. "you look even more handsome than before" he said his hand shifting to gently to gently stroke teddys cheek before dropping back down to his waist. he chuckled a little bashfully as tedy said he was still a good kisser. "I believe i was definatly taught by the best, and we have had a lot of practice" he said leaning his head in against teddys shoulder to unsuccessfully hide the blush that came from so many compliments in sich a small space of time. however it wasnt long before they were kissing again. Part of hugo didnt want to stop. He loved Teddy, he loved kissing him, he loved who he was around him, even though he had vowed to him self never to use the L word again, at least until Teddy used it first after he had seen how uncomfortable it had made him at graduation. what he didnt love was the group of students who had stopped on their way past to stare at them or how public they were. He broke it off and took Teddy's hand instead. "Should we have a wander and find somewhere a little more private. I can't wait to hear how seventh year is going. Mr Head Boy." he said winking slightly at the title that Teddy had called him so many times last year. he had heard from his sister a little bit about how the year was going and how Teddy was finding being head boy but he wanted to hear it from him too.

New glasses, that was it. Teddy knew something looked different about Hugo, “They really suit you,” he said warmly. He was enjoying all the compliments too and that blush got him every time. Teddy really did have the cutest boyfriend in the world. Still though, the kids were staring and Teddy wasn’t exactly in the mood to become the evenings gossip more than he already was. “Yeah sorry, I’m kinda a celebrity around here,” he joked, “Don’t want to end up getting paped for your old school paper.” He let Hugo take his hand to find somewhere quieter. “Things are going really well actually,” he answered about seventh year, “Did you hear we won our first Quidditch match?” He hadn’t written to tell him yet as the match was very recently over. He figured he’d rather share the news face to face, and now here he was doing exactly that.

Hugo smiled as Teddy complimented his glasses glad that he liked them. "Thank you" he said. he had tried to get something a little different to the plane frames he had before. he chuckled as Teddy said that he was kind of a celebrity around the school. " Of course you are. Quidditch captain, head boy, and best boyfriend. how do you stop it all gong to your head" he teased. giving his hand a light squeeze to show that he was teasing. at the mention of the paper he shook his head slightly. he hadnt quite known how he had managed to be picked to be the editor but he had to admit he had enjoyed the role. "oh what the exposé, i can see the headline now 'Head Boy Spotted Making Out with mystery man just meters away from school gates, By Morrie, or maybe Miranda" he said. as those were the two writers who he would have put most likely to do some gossip column. he stopped as teddy asked if he had heard about the quidditch win. "no. Congratulations. who were you against?" he asked. He had tried to get tickets to go and see the games, but apparently, when he had applied, he had missed the deadline. not that he was a fan of the sport but he would have liked the excuse to go and watch Teddy playing, and also to see some of his few other friends. "let me grab my things and then you can give me the play by play as we walk" he said. stop picking up his flask, put it in his bag, and put it on his back before taking Teddy's hand again. as they started to walk towards the village.

Edward was far away from here.

Teddy did have some great titles under his belt, but Hugo had also been editor in his head boy days and been a lot less showy with it than Teddy was. He thought about how he stopped it all going to his head, and it was a good question. "Oh you know, there's a job that come with these titles that keep me busy." He answered, his thoughts turning to Quidditch, "We were up against Ravenclaw." He answered, "Sorry bout that, your old house won't be winning the championship this year." He said sarcastically, not expecting Hugo to mind too much about that loss. He waited for him to get all his things, "Uh well it won't talk long, Aroha caught the snitch almost immediately." Teddy laughed, taking Hugo's hand and starting to walk. "Anyway head boy to former head boy, what did you have in mind for our day today?"

Hugo chuckled slightly as Teddy said that there was a job that came with the titles. " And how is the job going? are all the prefects behaving themselves" he asked. in his year he had in some ways been lucky to have june beside him as head girl. She was hard to work with at times, definatly looking to feed her own importance and find the easy way out of the work as well. but together it worked most of the time. He did the organisation and planning and paperwork behind the scenes, he had taken on the two patrol partners and picked up a lot of extra patrols when others had Quidditch training or last-minute assignments. and she dealt with the people and stopped the prefects from complaining about the rosters, leaving him to be the good cop of the duo.
He put his things away as Teddy explained the match and had hardly gone three steps when the play-by-play was over. "wow that was quick. Well done, Aroha. I bet the lucy's are disapointed" he said. It was kind of charming that both the Ravenclaw captains had the same name.
he took teddys hand again as they headed towards the village. "Well, former head boy to current head boy. I dont have a set plan. We can do whatever you want. I was going to reserve a table for us at the tea shop for a nice lunch, but they have speed dating on. So maybe we could go somewhere else. I just want to spend the day with you" he said.

Teddy filled Hugo in on how things were going as head boy, some of it he might have already put in his letters but by talking it through he could give more context. He talked about how he’d let the prefects pick their own partners, how he’d taken points from Vanity, and with a laugh added, “And I took points from a first year too. Just so happens it was Castillo’s kid!" he laughed, "They tried to pull the ‘do you know who my dad is?’ line, but I still took the points." He said, putting on a squeaky voice to sound like a first year. He knew though that once you give in to one, they'll all go thinking he's a push over, and he couldn't have that when he's top dog.

Once he finished talking about his experiences and the subject was on Quidditch, Teddy shrugged. He could sympathise with Ravenclaw a teenie tiny bit, but honestly, they must’ve seen it coming. Gryffindor was the way stronger team. Or at least they should be given how hard he works them in training. “I guess it’s hard knowing you’re out of the running for the trophy before it’s even begun,” he said. “And I know Lucy and Audrey were desperate to beat me, especially as we graduate this year.” They walked on as Hugo talked about his plans for the day, until Teddy suddenly stopped and gasped. “Speed dating! I totally forgot! Guess I’ll have to leave you to it.” He grinned, he was teasing of course and nudging him gently. “Only joking. I’ve already got the best boyfriend right here.”

hugo listened as teddy had described how the year as head boy was going. the idea of letting prefects pick their own partners was an interesting one. he almost askedhow it had gone. if people just picked their friends or if the older prefects helped the new ones. he could remember thinking of the pariings and tryign to mix people from different houses and also different years so the more experienced prefects could show the new ones how it was done. to try and make sure no one went unchecked. however listening to teddy recount his story the way he talked about taking points of vanity and then a first year. he stopped. "What on earth did a first year do to deserve points taken away?" he asked. although the question was fairly simple his tone did have a very slight warning to it.
when he spoke about quiddich he shook his head. "not just that. It's also hard putting so much effort into organising a team and training only to lose, and by the sounds of it, it was before half the people from either team managed to get into position in the air." he said. he had seen the girls planning trainings ant talking tactics many times in the common room. and there was something about how quick the game was over that really seemed like it would hurt more. "I am not blaming you or Aroha or anyone. The snitch makes its own decision when it wants to get caught right. but if the ravenclaw seeker got the snitch in that much time you would be disapointed too. Speaking of Audrey, are you two any closer to making up?" he said. hoping he wasnt beint harsh on his boyfriend after all, all he really wanted to do was to have a godo day with him.
When Teddy teased him about being late for speed dating, he gave his hand a squeeze and sped up a few steps. "come on then lets go. we may even be able to let us take part if we are quick" he said before leading them off the path at the next option which was apparently the gate into some field with cows in it some distance away. "In other thoughts, I already have a great date. And I want to enjoy every minute of it and not rush one bit of it, " he said, resting against the gate as he leaned to give Teddy light kiss on the cheek.

Teddy side glanced at Hugo when he asked about the first year “broke school rules...” Teddy said like it was the most obvious thing in the world. He got the disappointment for Ravenclaw but preferred to focus on his win. “Yeah but I can't feel that bad that it went in Gryffindor’s favour when that's my team” He scoffed at the question about Audrey and rolled his eyes. “I think so. We haven’t talked about last year. She picked me as her patrol partner, so we hang out a fair bit, and it seems fine. I think she’s pretty focused on her whole animagus thing these days anyway.” He wasn’t sure if Hugo even knew Audrey was having private lessons with dad. “Personally not for me. Have you seen how you become an animagus? It’s bonkers!” he said with a shake of his head.

Then they reached a crossroads, one path led towards the speed dating event they had been joking about, the other towards the open fields with Hugo. “This way then,” Teddy said, steering Hugo towards the open field. He leaned in and kissed him back as he held the gate open. It was one of those old kissing gates, the kind that only lets one perrson through at a time. Teddy smiled against the kiss. “How fitting,” he commented. “It’s a kissing gate.” He stepped back a little and gestured for Hugo to go through first.

Hugo looked at Teddy with confusion "'he broke the school rules'? He’s a first year. Everyone breaks some school rules. And it’s not like people get given a book on sorting with all the rules they need to memorise, and even if they did no one actually would he said
When Teddy said that Audrey was talking to him again and they were doing prefect duties together he nodded glad that thigs sounded like that at least was improving between them, they had been good friends and he really didnt want them to ruin their friendship over a duel and what had been said when they were both worked up. He did learn something; he hadn’t known that she was training to be an animagus wow. That's cool, I didnt know she was training for that. I’m glad you are working things out. No, I haven’t seen how it is done. But I am sure it would be tough learning he said he had never even considered training or even wondered what he would be.
He kissed Teddy then went through his half of the gay holding it closed until they kissed again. And it was an old style of gay he didn’t see often but it was fun. Especially as he had someone he wanted to kiss with him.
Soon they were through and walking across the field I think this should lead us to the back side of the park he said. They walked for a few moments Hugo was enjoying the peace and trying to think of what he was going to say. Free a little while he stopped walking and turned to face his boyfriend. "Hey Teddy. Can I talk to you about something?" he started, still not sure how he would continue exactly. "you know I lo-like you a lot. I really enjoy being with you, spending time with you. And this last year we have been together is one of the happiest times I have ever had." he said, starting off with positives to try and sweeten him up for what he was to say next, and to make sure he knew he wanted to support him, not criticise him. "but I am worried about you. Just now, when you were talking about taking points away from vanity and the first year, you didn’t sound like yourself, not the the energetic, fun, and friendly Teddy I know and" he cut himself off before he said the l word. A word he had vowed to himself not to use as it made Teddy uncomfortable. "and Violet said that you almost took points off her for something she didn't do, and the only reason you didnt wasn't because she didnt do it, but because she is my sister." he said. glad that his influence could still protect her even though it definatly didnt make up for the times he knew he hadnt protected her. but also sad that his influence was needed. "and she said people are talking too saying that you are being too trigger-happy, and anjoying the power too much. That's not what being head boy is about" he said. pausing to give his boyfriend time to process and respond before he continued.

Teddy started to losely talk about the animagus process but he stopped when Hugo wanted to talk about something and curiosity got the better of him. "Sure" Teddy replied, coming to a stop and facing Hugo. Then Hugo started in with all these lines about how much he liked being with him, how great the past year had been, and Teddy’s smile froze in position. His brain immediately jumped to thinking Hugo was proposing right here. In a field.

Teddy's panic was all on the inside as he wondered what he would say. Maybe yes, but let’s not tell anyone yet. Or were they too young? He wasn't sure he was ready for this and in that case perhaps should say no. Then Hugo said something unexpected, “Huh?" He said as it took a second for his brain to understand why Hugo was worried about him. The proposal panic deflated all at once and replaced with confusion. Teddy didn't really know what Hugo was talking about, he didn't think there was any problem at all and he had everything under control. He scratched his neck while feeling all hot for some reason, "Nah you've got it wrong. People said the same thing when I was running the Brotherhood. I just take my responsibilities seriously." He replied, brushing it all off as nothing, he didn't really want to talk about this and might have preferred a proposal if he had the choice.

Hugo looked at the expression spreading across Teddy's face. confusion? worry? he didnt think the conversations was meant to be that serious or even out of the blue if what violet said was right, though he did supose she was prone to exagerating. when teddy said he had it wrong he bowed hs head. "Maybe I have the wrong idea, maybe Violet was making things up. but that isnt the impression i got from talking to you" he said.
"Do you know why you get chosen to be head boy, or the leader of the brotherhood?" he asked. " because you are a good guy, like i said before, you are funny, charming, and you fight for what you want, and you are a great kisser, though it doubt that is part of the selection requirements. They want the head people and leaders to be role models that younger students can look up to and see those qualities. yes you get some power. but they trust you to use it appropriatly and fairly. not abuse it and weild it for every small discretion. As someone wise once said 'with great power comes great responsibility' dont tear them down and lead with fear like some mad dictator. What would it be like when all those first-year students become seventh-year students and try to be just like their favourite head boy?" he said quoting one of his favorite comics. He wasn't sure if Teddy read Spiderman, but it was a good point and way of saying it.

he looked at his boyfriend and took a deep breath. "Okay. Lecture over, I won't bring it up again today unless you want to. The rest of today is for us to spend time together to enjoy and celebrate our almost one-year anniversary. But please promise you will think about it at some stage, for me he said, offering his hand out to Teddy, gaining realising that he had let go at some stage during his rant.

Teddy listened to everything Hugo said but when he asked if he knew why he’d been chosen.as head boy, Teddy opened his mouth to say something big headed like “Because I’m brilliant?” but the rest of what Hugo said shut that down pretty fast. The bit about being funny and charming was nice, but then came the mad dictator comment and he didn't like hearing that. “Bit harsh,” he replied, “I’m not that bad. I’m just I guess a little bit bossy." He shook his head with a small laugh, thinking the someone wise was his dad because he'd definitely heard him use a line like that before. Teddy hesitated for a moment when Hugo offered his hand then decided to take it again “Alrighty" he said finally, "Because it's you asking I’ll promise to think about it, because I love you." He said that L word without really thinking about it but meant it and didn’t want to take it back.

Hugo smiled as Teddy said that his dictator comment was a bit harsh and that he was just a bit bossy. "Okay, maybe that's a bit harsh, but please dont let it get to that." he said.
He felt a moment's hesitation before Teddy took his hand. Maybe he had gone too far? Punched teddy a little too much. But he had wanted to be somewhat assertive, so he listened. He was relieved when he felt his boyfriend's fingers intertwine with his, and he gave it a slight, reassuring squeeze before nodding thanks, as Teddy said that he would think about it. "thank" he started before his boyfriend continued saying that he would because it was him asking. The shock came as the sentence continued. he stopped and looked at him in disbelief. Had he really heard what he had heard? Had Teddy meant to say that? He had been so careful not to say those words ever since they had made him uncomfortable at graduation. But now here he was saying them himself, and it had left Hugo's insides feeling all weird and warm, somehow melting and doing somersaults at the same time. Somehow it felt far more genuine and heartfelt slipped into a conversation like that than a big announcement. He stopped walking for a moment as his brain caught up and worked out what to do next. Part of him wanted to ask him if he was serious, part of him didnt want to in case he wasn't, part of him wanted to say it back, and part wanted to tell him not to say it if he didn't mean it and as each of those fought out, Hugo just gaped. eventually one part won, the part of him wanted to kiss him. he stepped forward and cupped his cheek " Really? he whispered before kissing him softly. " Because I love you too"

Now it was Teddy who was the one blushing though nowhere near the same shade of red that Hugo usually reached. “Yeah of course I do!" he answered, his voice was a little rough all of a sudden. He cleared his throat which helped him speak clearer, "Didn't you know?" When Hugo kissed him and whispered that he loved him too, Teddy smiled and kissed him back. "Yeah?" He whispered back then put his arms around his boyfriend and held him close.

Teddy was cute when he blushed, it wasn't the shade of tomato that Hugo could feel himself going right about now, but a light pink glow. He couldn't help the grin spreading on his face. As Teddy confirmed that he wasn't in fact hearing things, his voice sounded sexier than it had before, or maybe that was just Hugo's reaction to what he was hearing, the way the rest of his body was. "I wasn't sure, I hoped so. But you seemed so uncomfortable when I said it at graduation, so i didnt want to say it since." he said a bit of doubt entering his voice, He had tried to keep saying it in not words, but it was harder by distance, and there was no mistaking words were clearer. he held teddy close as he asked if he meant it. " Yes, Teddy Pirrip, I love you," he whispered, not wanting to let him go.

Teddy was a little surprised that Hugo was bringing up graduation now, it felt like so long ago and reminded Teddy that he should think about drafting his own speech, that was a future him problem. "And then we spent the winter snuggled up together before I came back to school." He reminded him, "And being apart, well don't they say distance makes the heart more or something?" Hugo was better at the quotes than Teddy. He beamed when Hugo said his name and that he loves him, "And I love you too Hugo Stark-West. I've never asked, do you have a middle name?"

Hugobit his lip as teddy pointed out that after graduation they had spent the winter snuggling up together and then separtared for school. "I supose so. but i didnt want to make you uncomfortable." he said. he had never really worried about if teddy did love him or not. and he wasnt sure why. maybe because his actions spokke more than words anyway, or maybe because at the end of the day he knew how he felt and it didnt make a difference. or maybe, and possibly the most likely reason, he just didnt think himselfworthy of being loved. and was happy to take what he got. "they do say something like that" he said. He gave Teddy's hand a squeeze. he smiled as teddy said he loved him again. It sounded so nice and so official the way he said his name. Had anyone ever said that combination of words to him before? he couldn't remember. "I do. its Victor. like the writer." he said. Then he tried to think of Teddy's name, and couldn't think of what it was. he felt like he should know, but didn't "Do you have a middle name, or are you just Teddy? wait, dont tell me its bear"[/b] he said.
he let go of teddys hand putting an arm around him instead. "Should we move a little further,ld? out of this fie" he said. As much as he was enjoying Teddy telling him how much he loved him, he didnt want to spend the whole day standing in a field where some cows were looking at them warily. instead they could find a cosy spot somewhere to snuggle up together, or an intimate corner of a bar for some lunch and a drink.

"Victor?" He repeated a little surprised, he didn't know any authors called Victor so he let that one fly over his head. He laughed when he asked if Bear followed his name, Teddy Bear was what Amodeus called him. "Well Hugo Victor Start-West. I do have a middle name, and you know Teddy isn't my real name right? I'm officially Edward Finnigan Pirrip." He told him. There weren't many people who knew his full name, he wasn't embarrassed by it or anything but he associated Edward much more with his dad and Finnigan wasn't really a name he wanted to use unless he decides one day that he wants people to start calling him Finn or something. He stood up straighter then looked around, "Alright then, we should probably go in at least one shop before I'm due back at the castle. Here, take my hand and we'll apparate to save the time." If anything, Teddy just wanted to apparate while he had the chance as he couldn't at Hogwarts.

Hugo was suprised that Teddy didnt seem to get the reference. then again you did tend to know about who you were names after, well not really his actual parents had called him Hugo. it was his mums who had given him his middle name. "Victor Hugo. it was a classic french writer from the romantic period i think. he wrote the hunchback of notre dame and Les Misérables" he said most likely butchering the french pronunciation.
he nodded as teddy said that wasnt his real name. he had figured it was unlikely to be but hadnt really thought to ask wht it was. theodore was the obvious guess. but Teddy didnt seem like a theodpre. though admittedly hugo had never met a theodore before. It didnt take ttime to find out what teddy was short for. Hugo looked at Edward as he said his full name. trying to measure the person in front of him to the name. "Edward Finnigan sounds impressive. but teddy suits you better." he said.
he didnt need to be asked twice to take teddys hand and they apperated into the villlage.

Hugo had enjoyed their day just hanging out in the village. and now they had made it to one of the bars for lunch. the place was busy but they had managed to find a quiet corner in the beer garden. he had just been to the bar to place his food order and was ballencing their drinks with the table number.
he placed everyting down and took his seat before raising her glass. "to us. happy one year" he said. toasting to them. which technically was next week at least from where he counted them dating. but seeing as teddy would be back at schoool nect eekend today would qount. he took a sip of his drink Which reminds me i have somethign for you. he opened his bag and pulled out a box of treats. your mum gave me this to give to you" he said and then picked out a arapped package that was wrpped but distinctly book shaped. "as one year is meant to be paper and i couldn't help myself" he said handing it to Teddy. Inside was a Spider-Man comic book.
