A Bad Day

Harri walked out to the lakefront. Her hair was matted and her blue eyes had lost their sparkle. She had good days and bad days. Up's and downs. Positives and negatives. And today was bad. She was depressed and low so much so she felt as if she was in a downwards spiral that was impossible to get out of, she was clutching at the sides of happiness but her grip was loose, her fingers were slipping and there was nothing she could do but fall. Down and down into a pit of darkness and unhappiness. Since being back at school she had felt better but today she felt worse then ever. It was a cold day but she was wearing a t-shirt and jeans. Her arms were so cold they felt like they were going to fall off but her whole body was numb, she felt nothing. At one time she had felt everything, every emotion in the world had been hers but now, Nothing.
She had written to Alex and he still hadn't replied. She wasn't sure why this bothered her so much. After all he was only a friend. A good friend, there was no doubt of that, but a friend was all. But he was her last remaining link to Emma. They were similar, there laugh their eyes. Their smiles. They were twins and they were so similar in every way. Harri wondered why he hadn't replied to her letter, she knew it had been a bit manic but he had had time to think it over, he would understand it because Emma would have understood it.
She sat down on the mud. It was damp but she didn't care, afterall she couldn't feel anything recently. She pulled her legs up tightly and rested her chin on them. She stared out across the lake and tears trickled down her face. She did nothing to try and stop them, she didn't care. She stared across the surface of the water, it was so smooth and undisturbed, she envied it. It had no worries, nothing to deal with. She knew this was crazy. How could anyone envy a lake! But her head was mixed up, stupid thought echoed through her head and when people spoke to her most of the time it went in one ear and came out the other. Her head was banging, it was sun rise and she had the whole day ahead of her. But she could see nothing bright about it, the whole day seemed dull and she didn't want to be surrounded by happy people. She was being selfish she knew but she couldn't stop, she had been through too much to worry about being rude.
She stared across the lake staring at the sun as it began to rise slowly throught the sky. She had changed since the last time she had been at school. Her childish curls were gone and replaced by poker straight hair. Her stupid chubby face was replaced by skinny ghost of what it used to be. Her blue eyes had lost there sparkle and no matter how blue they were they never had the brightness they used to. That had gone and she doubted it would ever come back. Her blonde hair hung limply round her face and she let out a small whimper sounding more animal then human.
