Halloween was Marietta's favourite time of the year. The costumes, the pumpkins, the tricks, and especially the treats. The First Year slipped on her torn doll dress her mother sent her, and applied the blood and makeup. She needed her dorm mate, Jeanne, to help her with the hair. She wanted to be the creepiest doll could be. This costume wasn't the best, considering her mom wasn't here to help her, but she still looked pretty creepy. Last year, she was a zombie rockstar, the year before that, a knight with her head bashed in with a morning star. Marietta took Halloween seriously. Always going for the gory makeup, instead of the fairy princess dress. She didn't mind the silly costumes, though. There were bound to be some at the feast.

Marietta made her way to the Great Hall, seeing a few students dressed in costume. There were some creepy ones like a werewolf, Jack Skellington, a few vampires, and some weird demon guy with an apple... well it was still scary. There were some silly ones, like she thought, a honey bear, a bumble bee, a bunny. Cool costumes like Sherlock, Swan Princess, Mother Earth was a good one. All these students and more at the feast. Marietta entered the Great Hall to find enormous bowls of candy on the tables. There were Jack-O-Lanterns in the air. She wondered if any of the pumpkins might be the one she grew in Herbology. Spiderwebs, bats, ghosts... it was beautiful sight for Marietta's eyes. The decorating was amazing.

It wasn't long before she started stuffing her face with candy. Some candy she knew, some she didn't. Marietta would have to brush her teeth thoroughly tonight. She looked around after eating half a bowl of candy, to see if Jeanne or Broderick were possibly around. Maybe even Evander. Marietta didn't want to be alone on her favourite holiday. Perhaps she could find a new friend tonight. Marietta stuffed a little more candy into her dress pockets and started looking for some friendly conversation amoung these ghastly ghouls.

Jeanne was familiar with the celebration of Halloween, in France, every year in English class they had the same vocabulary lesson about spiders, jack o'lanterns, skeletons, etc. But she had only dressed up and gone trick or treating the previous year with a few of her classmates in New Zealand. She had a witch costume, which now seemed a bit silly.

Jeanne waited until the last minute to think about a costume, which meant she had to scramble to piece something together, she didn't want to be the only one without a costume. She already had a black skirt, a white shirt and black shoes, so she managed to borrow a black vest and a bow tie to make her waitress outfit. It wasn't very original, but Jeanne did not really want to be noticed anyways.

After helping Marietta do her hair, Jeanne put on her own costume and just pulled her hair back in a tight chignon. She made a little detour by the owlery to send the letter she wrote to her parents and headed to the Great Hall.

The room had been decorated with spiderwebs, bats and ghosts, and the floating candles had been replaced by jack o'lanterns. 'So that's what they did with our pumpkins' she thought.
Jeanne spotted Marie in front of a bowl of candy and walked up to her.
"I leave you for what, eight minutes? And you have already gobbled up half a bowl of candy?" she teased, reaching for a chocolate.

Marietta beamed at the sight of her friend, "My candy eating skills are impeccable, my dear Jeanne," she said with a mouth still full of candy. This wasn't even the worst of her sweet tooth. A few years back, she got a massive tummy ache from eating a whole bag of candy, cupcakes, pie... she stayed away from sweets for a while after that. But now, she was back on track for Halloween. She was only going to stick with candy this time, though.

"So, have you entered the Costume Contest?" Marietta asked, popping a Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Bean in her mouth. Of course, Marietta didn't know this brand of Jelly Beans, and she just popped a dirt flavored bean in her mouth. Without thinking, she spat out the foul tasting out away from Jeanne. "Eugh! These Jelly Beans are awful!" She took a swig of her Punch to wash down the taste. She proceeded to make a disgusted face. Marietta hoped Jeanne would ignore that.

Where was she again? Oh yes the Costume Contest. Even though it wasn't scary, Marietta still liked Jeanne's waitress costume. It was well put together and creative for a last minute costume.
