Seventh Years: Lesson Six

Hades Styx the Third was perched on the desk once again, and the classroom was dimmer, but not completely dark. That was because today, the seventh years would be trying out their memory and the Patronus Charm. This would make it easier to see the light. Once the seventh years were in their seats, Hades clasped his hands together. "The homework should be complete by now. You'll need it if you want this charm to work. Remember that the memory must be the incarnate of happiness." Hades knew that his great-grandfather had issues with that, but it was what it was. Hades could perform it because he knew what made him feel the happiest. "You will attempt your Patronus Charm here. The incantation is Expecto Patronum, and you'll need to say it perfectly."

Hades would not demonstrate it again, so he kept his wand put up, but leaned forward on his arms a hair. "You won't get it the first try. Not in animal form at least. If you can produce a silvery wisp that might look like a small shield, then you got it, and you may leave. So, seventh years, get to it." Hades smirked subtly, as he knew that this was a challenging spell. It took him a while before he got his to form a wolf.
Assignment: RP the lesson.

Dominic couldn't believe it was his last week of lessons. He had been enjoying his classes and quidditch so much that he had lost track of the time. His next class was charms and he hoped he was prepared enough for it. He had a couple of good memories as back up and he hoped he'd be able to perform the spell. The teen listened as the professor started the lesson. He was reassured when the professor said they may not get it first try, as he couldn't say that he was entirely confident about it.

When instructed, Dominic took out his wand and found a spot in the corner of the room to focus. The first memory he had was when he had met his mother and the delicious food she would make for him. It was a little broad, so unfortunately it didn't seem to be working. He tried to be more specific by thinking of the cupcakes with the chocolate and sprinkles on them, which were his most favourite, but there was no luck with this either.

Dominic sighed as thought for a moment of another memory. This time he was thinking about when his mother had decided to adopt him. He had not been expecting it at all and it was definitely the moment that changed his life for the best. He kept thinking about this, including the time when Marley was adopted as well by his mother's boyfriend and they became a family. He loved his family so much. As he noticed a silvery wisp begin to form into wings, he beamed and watched it until it dissipated. It didn't get to its full form however, but the prefect was very excited with this progress nonetheless. He thanked the professor at the end of the lesson before leaving.

Veronica was nervous for her final charms lesson; they would be trying to cast the Patronus charm, and she wasn’t sure if she would be able to do it. She had her memory; it was clear in her mind, but would it be enough? She sat and listened to Professor Styx give them more information and set them up to practice. He then demonstrated the spell himself, and it looked very cool. There was no way she’d be able to do that. Once it was her turn to practice, Veronica found herself some space in the classroom and took out her wand. She thought about her memory, the last time she heard her mother’s voice, the warmth it filled her with whenever she heard it in her mind. She had told her she loved her before leaving for her research trip that she’d never come back from. Veronica fought back tears as she raised her wand, “Expecto Patronum,” It didn’t work on her first attempt, but eventually, and once her face was stained by the tears that had forced their way through, a whispery silver fog erupted from the tip of her wand. The lesson had taken a lot out of her, but she successfully cast the spell and that had been worth it.

Millie knew she was going to struggle with the last charms lesson; the Patronus charm was famously difficult, and she wasn’t sure she would be able to conjure it. She sat and listened to Professor Styx as he gave them some last-minute information. Once it was their turn to practice, Millie found some space and started thinking about her memory. She didn’t know about anything specific; she thought about her sister Veronica, the times they had been together just the two of them, and it had felt like them against the world. Would it be enough? For a while, it seemed like no, but eventually she managed to produce a very faint whisper of something out of her wand. Was that it? Once the lesson was over, she packed away her things and made her way out of the classroom.
