Seventh Years: Lesson Five

Hades Styx the Third sat on top of the professor's desk, knowing full and well what today was. This would be a brief lesson, but it would be discussing the highly anticipated Patronus Charm. Once the seventh years were in the Charms classroom and seated, he gestured to the door to shut it magically. He also gestured with his hand up to the ceiling to make the lights dim. The Charms classroom now looked dark, but it was possible to discern shapes and some of his expressions. Hades would be able to see if someone was sleeping anyway. "Now, today's lesson will be a short one, but no less important. You've touched this in Defence Against the Dark Arts. When you are confronted with the darkest of the dark, what will save you?" Hades took out his wand, as this spell was not one that he could perform wandlessly. He flicked his wand, and the room lit up with a small Lumos charm.

"Not bad when you are in the dark, but when you meet a foe such as a Lethifold or a Dementer, Lumos will not protect you. Many have fallen under both of the creatures as they could not protect themselves. This charm you should know by now, and it goes hand in hand with the class I mentioned just moments ago." Hades flicked his wand and the Lumos spell ended, and the room felt even darker. Good. This was going to help them see how a Patronus charm would work. He intoned clearly, "Expecto Patronum." Silvery blue light flowed from the tip of his wand and formed into a rather large wolf with its paws on the ground. It looked like it could attack at any moment, but that was not the purpose of this charm. It sat before Hades, its head taller than the desk that Hades was perched on. Hades waved his wand and his patronus faded away, and the regular light returned to the room.

"This spell will repel Dementors and Lethifolds. Not all of you will have a patronus that takes the form of an animal at first. You may need it, so you'll need to practice it until you at least produce a shield. The Patronus is the embodiment of happiness. So, for your homework, you will need to think of a memory that fills your entire being that could light the way in eternal darkness. You are dismissed." Hades nodded toward the door and it opened to allow the seventh years to leave.
Assignment: RP the lesson.

Teddy was super excited to be learning Expecto Patronum before graduation. He knew it had been coming and he really wanted to master it, he needed to master it if he wanted to be able to call himself a fully trained wizard. He watched Professor Styx cast his patronus wolf and was really impressed that he could. Teddy left the classroom thinking about which of his memories would be most effective when he attempted to cast for himself next lesson.

Millie sat and listened to Professor Styx discuss Lethifolds and Dementors, two very dark and dangerous creatures that were hard to defend against. Millie was pretty sure she would never come across them in the wild, but the thought of it still terrified her. Professor Styx told them about the Patronus charm, which could be used to defend against them. It sounded like they would be learning to cast the spell in their next lesson, and she was looking forward to that. After a quick lesson, Millie packed up her things and made her way out of the classroom.

Callie walked into the defence against arts classroom and took her usual spot in the room. She pulled her notes towards her and began writing down what the professor was saying, knowing that this would lead them to the patronus charm. Callie nodded and wwatched the silvery creature appear with a little smile. She nodded and took a note of the homework - to come up with a memory and then headed out of the room.

Dominic was sad that the semester was coming to an end soon, but he still had a couple of more weeks to go before the exams, so he was simply going to make the most of his time. With a sigh, the Hufflepuff just packed his belongings into his backpack and headed to his classes.

Dominic entered the charms classroom and took his usual seat within the room. The professor started the lesson quickly, lecturing them about a new spell that they would be learning. It seemed like it would be a difficult one, but they weren't going to be trying it that lesson and they would need to get ready to perform it the following lesson by thinking of a favorite memory. Dominic left the classroom at the end of the lesson thinking what might be his.

Veronica sat in Professor Styx’s classroom and listened as he introduced them to the Patronus charm. It was a defensive charm used to defend against dementors and lethifolds, both terrifying creatures, so a way to defend against them was invaluable. She listened and took notes as he described the spell and what it took to cast it. They wouldn’t actually be casting the spell that lesson, so once it was over, she packed up her things and made her way out of the classroom.
