Ivy loved school events. the anticipation, the gossip, the dressing up, the decorations, the music. everything about them. and if anyne was to ask her she would say that the yule ball was her favorite. then again she wasnt particulally loyal to the events if they had asked her in october her favorite would have been halloween. But today Ivy's favorite was absolutely the yule ball.
Last year she had gone with Naveen as a date dressed in a rather overthe tip sequinned peacock dress. this year she had done the opposite. a simple little black dress. letting herlong red curls make the stetement. she really did need to get a trim over the break.

she entered the hall and made a detour to the food picking up a couple of cookies before stopping at hte ice skating.fefinatly her faverate paty of the ball. She swapped her heels for sketes andm ade her way onto the ice enjoying how zoomy it madeh er.

Aroha was in a good mood for the sole reason that exams were thankfully over and she could relax a bit before going back home for the holidays. The Yule ball was a perfect opportunity for it, though she was still confused slightly by all the wintery decorations when they were solidly in the middle of summer. She shrugged it off though - nothing wrong with a bit of fun. She wandered for a bit, a little sad she didn't have a date, but ended up by the ice skating rink. She grinned at spotting Ivy. Quickly, she put on the ice skates. No, she'd never done it before, but it looked easy so why not? She soon found out it wasn't that easy at all. She tried to get a rhythm going with her feet but kept stumbling. Luckily her outfit wasn't too tight or she'd really be struggling. "Whoa, how the heck do you even do this?" she wondered out loud, a metre or so away from Ivy.

Ivy really enjoyed skating. It was so much fun zooming around and going fast, it almost felt like flying, no broom required. Maybe she should have organised with her friends to spend the ball with them but despite her best efforts she didnt really have a lot of friends who she was close to. Her year was just a quiet and somewhat antisocial year. And most of the people she would call her friend were the year above her and probably had already made plans. She did another couple of laps of the small rink before she noticed Aroha getting shakily onto the ice. She was a friend. At least she thought of most of her teammates as friends. She nodded slightly at the seeker's comment, not sure if the question was directed to her or not. "you have to glide more than walk. pushing outwards more than just forwards" she said, slowing down to skate alongside her and putting her arm out in case she wanted a hand to hold onto.

Aroha gave a thoughtful 'hmm'. She got back up onto her feet, deciding she would take Ivy's hand to help her at least not fall over again. She tried out Ivy's advice. "Glide more than walk," she repeated slowly, giving it a shot. It sort of worked for a bit - Aroha managed to go a bit longer without losing her balance, at least - and nearly fell again, but steadied herself at the last moment. She laughed merrily. "This is challenging, but fun. Did you grow up doing this or something?" Aroha asked Ivy.
