Where did Declan go? Freddie had to talk to him - before Ares did. He waited near the Gryffindor portrait, leaning on the wall, picking at his sweater. His leg was still heavy and his nose still stung where Ares punched him, but at least it had stopped bleeding. Come on, come on, come on. What was Ares saying? They were probably in there right now, talking. He was probably telling Declan how Freddie was bullying him, or something - probably lying, pretending to cry, like he did in front of the teacher. Freddie's stomach turned again. Declan was the best friend he ever had. Don't believe him. Don't believe him.

Declan had been worried for his friend since he left his friend to do what he needed to do. He didn't fully understand what had happened, but the way Freddie had looked after whatever had happened had made Declan pretty much worry about his friend. A lot. He had never seen his friend freak out like that before. And Declan knew at that moment when he had seen his roommate on top of Freddie like that, Declan had made it clear to himself that he was not impressed with his roommate, nor did he like the guy either.

Declan immediately made his way outside of the common room when someone told him that someone was outside and had been waiting for him. Declan was hoping that it was Freddie. When Declan rushed out of the common room, he let out a big sigh of relief when it was indeed Freddie waiting out there for him. "Freddie? Are you alright, man?" Declan says worriedly, though slowly, he didn't wanna scare of his friend.

Freddie got off the wall, leaning mostly on his good leg. Was Declan mad? Did he look mad? No. Maybe. He might've still saw Ares, though. "Yeah," Freddie said. He was okay. Like, not really, but whatever. "Did you see Ares? He's a big, stupid freaking liar. I'm not bullying him." He wiped his nose, just to make sure it wasn't bleeding again. Okay. Okay okay okay. He was gonna explain. How? Ares made him sound like he was the one lying. "Do you trust me?"

Declan let out a small sigh of relief when Freddie said he was alright. Declan would admit it was sort of a stupid question to ask his friend if he was alright, when clearly the state of him wasn't alright. He rolled his eyes at the mention of his roommate. "Yeah, I saw him, but hardly heard what the guy had to say," Declan says with a frown or shake of his head. He wasn't going to listen to someone who attacked his friend. He was literally on top of Freddie, and Declan couldn't get that image out of his head. Declan looked at his friend like he had grown two heads. "Are you crazy? Of course, I trust you?"

Okay. Declan probably heard something earlier - he probably heard Ares going off about all that dumb stuff - but maybe he didn't believe it. Okay. Freddie twisted the ring on his thumb. No-one usually trusted him, so he had to ask. "I gotta sit down," he said. There were some comfy chairs over there, though - and they were in the corner, so less people would hear. Freddie talked quietly as he walked. "I hit him. Like, right after we got here. He was making fun of my sister." He sat down, leaning back. "She kinda wears funny clothes. He shouldn't've laughed, though. So I just got really mad, and hit him. In the stomach."

Freddie paused. He'd thought he was gonna feel good saying that, but he didn't. He felt bad. "He's been following me around, like, ever since. I think he's trying to make me mad. Today, I was just reading, and he came over - I didn't move my foot - and he just, he tripped over on purpose. I swear. Didn't touch him. And he started screaming for help. He was gonna get me in trouble. I didn't even do anything - but no-one's gonna believe me. He can make himself cry." Freddie pulled the ring over his knuckle and bent his thumb, so it hurt a bit. "He's a jerk. I did hit him first, so. I did trip him on purpose before. I'm not saying I didn't ever. I just don't wanna get in more trouble." Declan probably just thought it was his fault, now. Maybe it was. "I'm always in trouble."

Declan nodded quickly as he followed Freddie towards one of the comfy chairs nearby. He listened to his friend as he spoke about what had happened, the pieces slowly coming together and eventually making sense as to what was going on. It was like the cogs in his mind were slowly turning, trying to slowly understand what was going on. He nodded understanding. "I mean, I get it," Declan said quietly yet slowly with a nod. "If someone had made fun of one of my cousins or my older brother, I'd probably have done something similar," Declan says with a nod. Declan knew that his cousins and himself included were a bit of oddballs, but that's what he liked about his family.

He frowned as Freddie further explained what was going on. "He seems to be annoying you in some way" Declan thought quietly aloud. Trying to think of what possible reasons Ares would do to annoy Freddie in some way. "It's like he's got something against you. And it sucks. He sounds annoying, too," Declan says with a shake of his head. "I mean it's understandable as to why you hit him, though I don't necessarily think it was the greatest way to handle it," Declan began to say slowly. "But just between us two, I think he deserved that, maybe a little," Declan mutters quietly with a small shrug, as he puts his index finger and his thumb closely together to show how little he deserved that. Declan then pondered for a moment, thinking and processing a little more of what Freddie had said. "This sounds like it's been going on for like ages" Declan says with a small frown, realising a little. "Why didn't you tell me he was bothering you?" Declan says sadly with a small frown, looking at his friend sincerely. He then thought about scenarios in his head of ways he could've prevented things from going haywire.

Declan got in a fight once. Freddie remembered that, 'cause he asked - he wanted to know if he ever hit someone. Some people did deserve it. A teeny, tiny bit. A big bit. A lot. Freddie held up his finger and thumb too, but made the gap way bigger, as big as he could. It wasn't funny, but he was smiling. He couldn't stop it. Only when Declan asked why he didn't say anything - then he stopped. Why? Freddie shrugged, looking at his ring. He just didn't like talking about that stuff. Made him feel weird. Like he was gonna cry, or something. Declan was being nice - that made him feel weird too. Not bad. Just weird.

"I dunno," Freddie said. "He's in your house. I didn't wanna, like. Start stuff." Declan probably talked to Ares all the time. Maybe he thought he was nice. "Didn't know if you liked him. Maybe you would've listened to him, not me."

Declan grinned a little as he noticed his friend smile. It had made Declan somewhat happy that he managed to make his friend smile, even if it was just for a small while. He then noticed his friend's smile drop at Declan's question, which made him a little guilty for asking. But Freddie was Declan's friend. His best friend if Declan was being honest. Declan frowned a little. "Nah man, he may be in my house, but you're like my best friend," Declan admits with a small smile, as he pats his friend on the shoulder with sincerity, hoping that he was indeed being genuine towards his friend. "He may be my roommate, but we hardly talk. I'd believe you no matter what. I mean it," Declan says firmly, with a small smile, hoping his friend would believe him.

After what he had found about what his roommate had been doing to Freddie, Declan knew that he'd be giving the glares and daggers to his roommate at any chance he got, but be civil when he needed to be. He wasn't going to physically fight the boy, however. But Declan had a feeling he had to be protective of his friend in some way. "But promise me one thing, okay? Just... if he or anyone, I mean anyone, bothers you, you tell me, okay? I don't want you to be alone about these things. Just know you have me," Declan says with a small smile.

Best friend. Freddie's throat went tight, and then even tighter. Declan believed him. Even though Ares was his roommate - even though Ares was nice. Freddie just kept looking at his ring, looking at the pattern, the wavy lines, trying not to breathe too fast. Not gonna cry. He was not gonna cry. He wasn't even gonna think about Declan being nice - he was thinking about guitar. Slowly, his throat stopped aching. Okay. He was good. Now he could look at him.

Freddie still didn't say anything. Did he really mean all that stuff? Were they really best friends? They had to be. They had to be, 'cause Freddie would've done all that for Declan too. "Gimme your hand," he said, sitting up a bit. He pulled the ring off his thumb and shoved it in Declan's palm. It was a nice one. But he had more. "Okay."

Godmod approved

Declan watched his friend in silence. It was like he was processing something, and Declan was unsure of what to do at that point. Did he say something wrong? Had he been too forward about something he had said? Declan was a little worried he might've said something wrong, but he couldn't back out now; he had already said what he had needed to say, and he just hoped he comforted his friend rather than upset his friend.

Declan grew confused when Freddie told him to give him his hand. He was confused as to why, but had done what he was told anyway. His eyes grew wide as Freddie had given him one of his rings. "What? Are you sure? Your rings are like your prized possessions- I couldn't," Declan stuttered out with shock but also with appreciation, more confused, though he had liked the gesture and somewhat understood what the gesture had meant.

Yeah... Freddie really liked that ring. He already kinda wished he didn't give it to Declan - but whatever. He didn't care that much. It wasn't a big thing. He just wanted to give him something, 'cause they were friends. 'Cause Declan was nice to him. "Yeah," he said. "Just don't, freaking, lose it. Don't lose it." It wasn't super expensive, or anything, but Freddie still bought it with his money. He sank back in the chair, sliding down a bit, then sitting up again, pulling his good leg under him. No matter how he sat, it didn't feel right. "What do you think I should do?" he asked. "About Ares."

Declan nodded quickly. "Promise," Declan says quickly yet sincerely with a nod. He was going to make sure not to lose the ring, and Declan had declared to himself that it was now a special item given to him. He was going to make sure not to lose the ring. Declan noticed that the boy seemed to be finding a comfortable position, adjusting his body a little, but Declan had guessed he was still pretty hurt from the fight that had happened earlier. Declan thought for a moment about Freddie's question. "Honestly? I dunno man," Declan thought aloud, as he was trying to think of ways he could help his friend. "It's hard. He might find a way to still annoy you, but you gotta find a way where you can't let him get into you're head. He's not worth your time, that's for sure"

Freddie laughed. Nah. He didn't care if Declan lost it. Well, maybe a bit. But he wouldn't yell at him or anything. He went to fidget with his ring, felt dumb for a second, then picked at his nail instead. "Yeah," he said. Ares wasn't worth his time. But he always knew how to make Freddie mad. Even just... smiling at him, and stuff. Just smiling made him mad. He didn't know what to do about that. "Thank you. For, like. Sticking up for me. I'll just try not to look at him any more. If he comes near me, I'm walking away." Wouldn't feel as good as hitting him, but at least he wouldn't get in more trouble. "I'm not scared, though," he added, glancing at Declan. "I would fight him. He hurt my back, my leg, so that wasn't fair. I could beat him up. He's not even tough."

Declan chuckled a little as Freddie had laughed. Declan was definitely going to try and keep the ring safe for real, considering it was given to him, which seemed to be the spur of the moment. He still felt a little bad about it, since it was Freddie's, but he knew that it was now in his possession, and he had to keep it safe. Declan sends his friend a grin. "It's no worries, man. You can't get rid of me now. You're stuck with me forever and ever. No turning back now," Declan says dramatically, but he is also being genuine with what he was saying. He did see a great friendship with Freddie. "I never thought you were scared," Declan says quickly with a small shake of his head. He was sure his friend had it handled in some way. "It definitely could've been handled better for sure. He shouldn't have hurt your leg or back, though. That's a bit crazy. He went all mad-crazy at you," Declan says with a shake of his head. Declan believed his roommate went all crazy on Freddie, considering the result of Freddie's body from the fight.
