Second Years Lesson One (Ravenclaw and Slytherin)

Mallory was both relieved and nervous to be back. She had set up the classroom again the way she liked, giving it a quick cleaning that morning before arranging her desk. Amara was curled up with Maxim underneath her large oak desk, fast asleep as well (as if she'd gone and spelled all her little minions to rest, when really it had just been a long night) and all of Mallory’s notes and lesson plans were arranged neatly on the desk itself, turned to face out to the rows of seats so she could sit and still supervise her students. She'd spoken to Sam, and between the few days the boys spent with their father and the babysitting her fellow Professor offered, Mallory'd gotten several of her lessons covered. She wasn't used to being away from her new baby Nikolay, he was just so little. She shook her head, trying not to worry.

She had decorated the desk with a line of flowers, most of them shorter, creating a small barrier along the edge of the desk that she could still see over. She had taken care getting dressed that morning, her light powder blue robes swishing gently around her feet and her dark mahogany hair pulled back in a braided chignon. Peter was thankfully a calmer child, dramatic when he wanted to be, but fascinated with watching her to the point where she could get ready for the day.

She rose from her desk as the students filed in, smiling kindly as the last of them settled in their seats. She clapped her hands lightly to get their attention, looking over the fresh young faces of the second years. “Dobroye utro, good morning my dears,” She greeted gently, her Russian accent a more subtle but still there. “My name is Professor Mallory Grayveson, and I’ll be your Professor until fifth year,” She raised a hand, the chalk raising to write out her name in an elegant script behind her.

Feeling a little more confident after her first lesson had gone well, her stance was more relaxed as she turned back to her second-year students. “Today's lesson is fairly simple, my dears. We’ll be covering the cleaning charm. Repeat after me; Scourgify." She went over the wand movement and the spell twice, making sure everyone saw. "I have a list here, of the charms we’ll cover this semester. Today, I would like you to go over this chapter and try the charm here in class.

Mallory waved her hand, and dirtied dishes appeared in front of each student. “I am right here, of course, if you have any questions or need any assistance. For extra credit, if you wish, you can write a short essay on the different ways you can use this charm. It doesn’t have to be much, a few paragraphs at least, but do put some thought into it, dears.” She encouraged, smiling warmly at her students as she moved to sit at her desk, the reading list appearing on the board. “I do have paper copies of this list, if you would like to gather one on your way out today,” She added, settling into her seat and smiling as she felt Amara twining around her legs. “My office is open, my dears, from breakfast until dinner every day, so feel free to stop by and see me.”

Aaron headed into his second year of charms, and he honestly didn’t care much for it. He was happy with this A - he didn’t have any designs on getting anything higher because right now his mother thought he was getting excellent grades and that’s really all he felt like he needed to worry about. He took a couple of notes on the spells they would be learning this semester, and wrote little notes next to them, hoping it would help him to come back to them if he needed to, though he doubted it. Soon the class ended and he headed out.

Echo had managed to arrive to the correct class on time, which was more than could have been said when she'd arrived for her first potions class. Taking her usual seat, she couldn't wait for the day she could share all her lessons with Gryffindor instead of just the odd one or two. Being separated from her best friend was hard, and Echo would have enjoyed her classes a lot more if she had Nia around. Making some notes on the spells they'd be learning that year, Echo kept to herself for the most part, hoping to actually pass some lessons with decent grades this year. At the end of the lesson, she packed up her things and headed out, hoping to get in some Quidditch practice before the next game.

Logan had big plans for this year, and none of them involved his classes. His biggest plan was to make the Quidditch team, he was impatiently waiting for tryout results so he'd know if he had made it. There was very little else he could focus on, so his lessons barely stood a chance. Logan headed into the Charms classroom and sank into a chair near the back of the room. He leaned back and listened as Professor Grayveson introduced herself.

Logan noted down what the professor said they'd learn this year. None of its sounded that interesting, and he wondered when they would learn any of the good stuff. Probably not until fifth year. He'd have to ask his sister. He didn't even bother noting down the assignment for extra credit, he wasn't an extra credit sort of guy. When the lesson was over, he left the classroom.

Lincoln made his way into charms class for the start of another semester. He hoped that Professor Grayveson would be introducing them to more complex content, as had been the case with some of his other professors. He liked that things were getting harder, more serious as they moved into a new school year. He sat and listened to Professor Grayveson as she went through the list of spells they would be working on during the new school year, the first being the cleaning charm, which he didn’t relish knowing, his mother might start asking him to clean.

After taking some notes, Lincoln started working on the cleaning charm and would be practising on dirty dishes that appeared on his desk. He worked on the dishes until the end of the lesson, successfully cleaning a couple of them, so he was pretty happy with what he had to show for the lesson by the end of it. Once he was finished, he packed up and left.

Evan walked into the Charms classroom, a bit nervous about learning actual magic this year. Last year had been mostly theory, but as he understood it, he would actually be using spells this year. He listened to the Lecture on the Scourgify Spell, which was a cleaning spell. Then he wrote down the different spells they would be learning this year. He hoped to do well this year.

He practiced the Scourgify spell on the dirtied dishes the Professor had conjured. To his surprise, he was actually able to clean the dishes with a couple tries of the spell!

Autumn was looking forward to going back to Hogwarts but was most definitely not looking forward to classes. She didn’t like the idea of having to study as she felt it was going to be a big waste of her time. Most of what she would learn, she would learn in everyday life. What did it matter for her to learn about the wizarding world’s history, or how to brew a potion she was never going to make? She packed her backpack with a sour look on her face and almost had to drag herself to her first class for the semester.

Autumn entered the charms classroom and took a seat amongst her peers. The professor introduced herself again before announcing their task for that lesson. The Slytherin was happy to be casting a new spell, but wasn't so happy about the dirty cup that was in front of her, stained with lipstick after someone drank something absolutely putrid from it. She picked up her wand and used her other hand to hold her nose as she said the incantation. It wasn't working, as obviously her voice sounded different with her nose held together. Reluctantly, Autumn braced herself before taking her fingers off her nose and saying the incantation. She beamed as it worked and finally the smell had suddenly disappeared. Thankful for this, Autumn thanked the professor before leaving the classroom at the end of the lesson.

Theo was glad to be back at school; he was keen to see his friends, learn new spells and hopefully be on the Quidditch team again. The boy sat down in his usual spot and took out the things he needed for the lesson before placing them on the desk in front of him. He moved his attention towards the professor as the professor began the lesson. Theo noted down what the professor was saying as he didn't want to miss out on anything important. They were going to learn the cleaning charm, which sounded useful, maybe a bit boring, but useful. The Ravenclaw then noted down the charms that were on the board, some of which sounded interesting enough. He then read through the chapter that the professor had told them to go through.

It wasn't long until the lesson had come to an end, and they were dismissed. Theo packed up his things, said a quick thanks to the professor, before heading out of the classroom with his friends and the rest of his classmates.
