Geo didn't often pace, because usually the woman felt as though she had a good understanding of the situations around her, but if there was one topic that would occasionally give her anxiety it would be issues surrounding her children. She'd had just over fifteen years practice now although she wasn't sure it would ever be enough. The longer time went on, the more Geo had to learn. Parenting wasn't about knowing what to do so much as needing to frequently evolve her style, not to mention evolving for every child that had a mind of their own.

The former Hufflepuff had heard about the commotion at the end of year feast, and the part that members of her own family had (or hadn't) played in it. She could understand the need to let down one's hair, to play or mess around with others in your class, after all she'd been in their positions at one time. But after hearing that the scene had gotten out of hand and that it was partly the lack of responsibility of her second eldest and husband, made Geo determined to have a proper conversation about it. She'd pushed Killian for the details over their last luncheon. It had begun with her congratulating her best friend on his engagement, although as the topic moved once more to the school and Geo had questioned the man for the details that had occurred during that last evening, her coffee had left a bitter taste in her mouth.

James would be a separate issue. For now, Geo's attention was on Veronica. Killian had told her about the Gryffindor prefect he suspected to be their daughter and how she'd tried to rile up the house again despite the Headmasters best efforts to calm the students down. And perhaps James hadn't cared enough to take action over his own prefects actions, Merlin perhaps he'd even been proud, but Veronica's actions didn't only reflect on James. They reflected on her, on Bailey, Millie, the twins, and every other Cade that was attending or would be attending the school, not to mention the rest of Gryffindor house. Geo had never been out here raising a hooligan and for whatever reason Veronica had to justify her lack of manners and respect, Geo was about to get to the bottom of it.

"Can I come in?" She'd stopped pacing after deciding what it was she would say to her daughter. She'd knocked on the Gryffindor's bedroom door, hoping for a mature conversation where Veronica could understand why her behavior had made her so upset.

Veronica had just wanted to blow off a little steam, she hadn’t expected things to get so out of hand. Everyone had decided that the headmaster had been in the process of calming the food fight down when she had single headedly tried to restart things, from her point of view, Professor Alcott-Ward had only warned the students about using spells, he had said nothing about throwing food. But no one ever listened to her, no one saw things the way she did, no one ever took her side. If Bailey had done something like this everyone would have assumed she had noble intentions. Her older sister always got the benefit of the doubt where she didn’t.

Her dad hadn’t really done much in the way of discipline, she knew she was effectively grounded for the entire summer and she would face further punishment when she returned to Hogwarts for the new year. It felt like she was being punished from all directions. When Geo knocked on her door Veronica wasn’t sure she was ready for someone else to tell her off. Especially her mom, she was so much more serious than her dad would likely think her actions warranted more punishment than what her dad had provided. “Fine,”

Geo heard Veronica's voice, and pushed open the bedroom door, "I need to talk to you," Despite her own anger, she knew she wouldn't get very far if she immediately let her emotions run wild. If she was going to talk to the Gryffindor in a productive manner then it was important for both of them to be able to speak sensibly. The woman closed the door behind her, if not only because she didn't want Lumos or Eden trying to listen in. "What happened at the end of year feast?" Geo asked, moving further into her room to take a seat on the side of her bed. It was a large room, as were most of the rooms in the house, however Geo had never wanted money to be a factor of her children's behaviour growing up. For the most part she didn't think they were spoilt, but that didn't mean she wasn't keeping a close eye on if any of them tried to stray from the right paths.

Veronica knew the question was coming as soon as Geo entered her room and took a seat on her bed. Her tone was different from her fathers, there had been a hint of pride even when he was telling her off and grounding her. He at least understood that at her age she was experimenting, pushing boundaries, the way Geo treated her it was as if she was expected to be a goody two-shoes like Bailey. It wasn’t fair. “You already know, Dad told you,” Veronica said not meeting her step mother’s gaze. “There was a food fight, I got involved, I don’t know why everyone’s making a federal case out of it,” She added after a longer silence than she was comfortable with.

It was true, James had already told her. Geo however had wanted to give Veronica the opening to tell her herself although apparently that was a step too far. "You know why everyone is coming down harder on you than the others that were there," she said, her voice quiet but firm. "You're a prefect. You're supposed to be someone that others look up to, the good influence for other students, not someone who's going to make things more difficult." Geo had been a prefect too, she knew it came with the pressures of being observed, even if you didn't always want to be. There was no one else in the school that had Veronica's position which meant she needed to be aware of that, and what it meant. "Veronica, students and professors will see you behaving in a way that is unacceptable, and because you're a prefect and the daughter of the Head of Gryffindor, they will think you're being treated differently to the other students." She was frankly, being treated differently. "They will start to believe that you are above the rules, and that your dad is playing favoritism with the Gryffindor students." It was fair that James would love Veronica more than the other students of course, but that didn't mean they needed to reinforce it, invalidating other students in the process. "And if they think that, then what's to say that your siblings won't be treated differently too?" The idea that anyone would have a preconception about one of her younger siblings without even meeting them wasn't fair on any of them.
