Sayuri knew for a fact that the triplets tend to forget her more often than not. Rose might think that she was the one easily forgotten, but it wasn't really easy to forget her. Besides, between Jonah and Elijah, the Gryffindor rarely had a moment of peace before Hogwarts. Then again. That was before. Sayuri supposed she should start acknowledging that the before and the now were vastly different. It was no use thinking sometimes of how it was before except to lament on it. Was it even worth lamenting? Their first year had been an adjustment. And well, she thinks it went pretty smoothly for her. The triplets? Not so much from what she understood. Then again, it just proved her point that she wasn't really a part of them. They might all be in the same year, and some might think their quadruplets, but she was separate. One that needed to be pointedly remembered just to be part of the group. She didn't even know Jonah and Eli had been fighting until they'd gotten home. And in the last semester, she only knew whatever would be mentioned in the study group. None of the triplets ever talked much in class after all - which had been a surprise for Jonah. It was just... Hogwarts was completely different. But it was never a bad different for Sayuri. She was just left more alone now. Which didn't bother her all that much. She was used to being alone. Sort of. But she supposed sometimes, she missed them. And so when she found Eli studying in the library all by himself, she took a chance to maybe share a table with him for the day. Just the two of them, just like old times. "Mind if I join you while I read up on Charms? I swear if she calls us darlings one more time," she says as she stands awkwardly beside the table, just in case he actually had a friend who'd just stepped away for a moment or was running late.

Eli glanced up from his notes, his quill pausing mid-word. He blinked once, as if processing Sayuri's presence, then offered a faint, genuine, smile. "Sure, of course, you can join me," he said, gesturing to the empty seat across from him. The mention of the charms professor earns a quiet sigh, it annoyed him to no end that she kept calling them darlings and if he could just skip the class he would have. But he'd too academic for that. "She does like her 'darlings', doesn't she? I almost choked on my tongue when I bit it so hard near the end of the semester last year, I was gonna say worse than I had earlier in the year," he told her, frowning. He didn't know why she used that particular word but it really ground on him and he definitely wasn't a fan.

He shifted some of his books to make room for his sister, unhurried, but deliberate. "You're reading up for the essay then?" he asked, his tone casual, though there was a flicker of curiosity in his eyes. "I'm almost done with mine, but I can help if you get stuck. Charms isn't as bad as Rose makes it out to be." There was a brief pause before he added, quieter this time, “It’s nice to have company, though. Kind of like before.” He gave a small shrug, glancing down at his parchment again as if to cover the admission.

Sayuri smiled as she took a seat opposite Eli while he started to make room for her. "Trust me, I have been weighing in my head whether it would be worth the point loss to snap at her," she said with a sigh. She just couldn't understand why that particular professor couldn't just address them as normal instead of whatever infantile nickname she'd decided on. Sayuri was no darling, and she certainly was not the professor's darling. And it was such a constant battle with her temper to not lash out at the woman. She could barely stand mum calling them "her babies" and dad calling her "muffin". They were her parents and much as she was loathe to admit, she loved them both. Thus the tolerance for their shenanigans. Sayuri did not have much tolerance for the Charms professor. It was likely only a matter of time before she snapped at the woman. "Yeah, I'm trying to note down some more points I'd like to put in before I write the whole thing," she said as she opened her book and got her notes out. "I think I've almost got it all. It's not that I'm stuck, I'm just sure I missed something I wanted to put in," she said as she skimmed through the pages while she talked with Eli. The two of them have had a system since they figured that they could match each other's study habits. It was a practice by now to read while talking to Elijah about his thoughts on magical theory since that's how they did most of their work back when they were all just day students in Mahoutokuro. Now, everything was just a tiny bit different. The bit of silence before his admission had her looking up at him in question before she turned back to her reading. "Before was also nice - I didn't think so before. I miss it now sometimes," Sayuri quietly admitted. She doubted it was something she would admit to the others, but she had always gotten along with Eli best. "And I don't mind Charms, I just wish we had a different professor. I heard from Eurydice that the temp they had was great and they made the class seem like a breeze, but they teach Transfiguration now? I don't know how Jonah failed the class," she said with a sigh.

Eli leaned forward slightly, a sympathetic expression softening his face as Sayuri vented. "I get what you mean," he said quietly, nodding along as she spoke about the professor's ridiculous nicknames. "It’s not like you’re asking for much—just to be treated like the young adults we are. But I guess some people think they’re being endearing, even if they’re not." It was honestly one of the things he really disliked about this school, back in Mohoutokoro, they didn't get treated like that, there were certain honourifics available, but they weren't given childish nicknames like that professor seemed to prefer. He really just didn't get it. "You know, I’ve actually been waiting for the day you do snap at her," he said, smirking slightly. "Not that I’m encouraging it - because Merlin knows you'd lose points - but it would definitely be memorable. Maybe she’d finally get the hint that not everyone enjoys being called 'darling.'” He made air quotes with his fingers, rolling his eyes. Being called 'bud' by Touchan was enough of an annoyance. He sort of let Kaachan get away with calling all of them babies though because she hadn't spent a lot of time with them when they were babies so it was a bit of a tossup. "It’s like she’s trying to play everyone's doting grandmother, except we’re not five, and she’s not our gran." To be fair, Eli didn't have any grandparents.

Elijah watched as Sayuri spread out her notes, letting her dive into her usual rhythm. He nodded as she spoke, his gaze flicking over the pages she was skimming. "You’ll remember what you missed. You always do. It’s probably just buried in all the other brilliant things you’ve already thought of," he said with a small grin, his tone light but sincere. "Besides, half the time you’re overthinking. You don’t need everything to be perfect—it’s already better than most people’s work." Her quieter admission about missing the past caught him off guard, and he softened, his smirk fading into a thoughtful expression. "Yeah, I get that," he said after a pause, his voice low. "It was easier back then, wasn’t it? Even if we didn’t think so at the time." He tilted his head slightly, studying her. "But hey, at least some things haven’t changed. We’ve still got each other to complain to. That’s something." He didn't know what to say on her comment about Jonah, he was really worried about Jonah and he really didn't know what to do. He didn't know how to talk about it because he felt like somewhere it was his fault, he'd never treated Jonah any differently and he'd always been fine, but now? He'd found out recently that he'd broken Jonah's wrist last year, Rose had almost smacked him for it, but he hadn't know about it because Jonah hadn't said anything about it. He felt bad, but trying to pin their brother down was like trying to catch smoke, it wasn't easy.
