Did it say which country is heading it up?

I would be inclined to suggest the states, but I know Canada has a nasty bit of legislation trying to sneak through the cracks...

I don't know, it's going through 'secret negotiations', so it's probable that no one knows.

It's so we don't know which Country to hack government files from :(

^_^

Well, I got all the information I know from wikipedia, so I don't know how accurate it is, but OMG NO.

"The proposed agreement would allow border officials to search laptops, MP3 players, and cellular phones for copyright-infringing content. It would also impose new cooperation requirements upon internet service providers (ISPs), including perfunctory disclosure of customer information, and restrict the use of online privacy tools. The proposal specifies a plan to encourage developing nations to accept the legal regime."

I was going to bold the parts I found most objectionable, but then I realised it would be pointless. Possibly the last part about developing nations. Capitalism as colonialism, anyone?

I know, this might be the stupidest question ever but What is all this about?I am bad at taking news so I dont know about it but I want to know.I got some of it from Nerrisa's post but still dont get it quite well.

Nickels and Nerissa: Here is an analysis and a link to the agreement itself.

Nerissa: I hadn't thought of that, but when I consider it, it makes sense.

Lila: This is an agreement that is being negotiated in secret by the United States, the European Commission, Japan, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Canada, and Mexico. It would create an organization that would answer to no government that would be allowed to search your computer, mp3 player, etc... for illegal files. They would be allowed to do this with warrants or reason. I know in the United States (not to certain on the details of other governments), but the Constitution makes it so every government entity is answerable to someone (in theory) and that one's property cannot be searched or taken without a warrant.

Of course it's the states heading it up. :-W

& according to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms
Search or seizure
8. Everyone has the right to be secure against unreasonable search or seizure.

Of course according to section 33 of the Charter any act of parliament may take away those rights for up to five years, and may be re-enacted after it expires.

We may be heading it, but you guys are still going along with it.

I was a tad confused. :p

So, these countries will only be allowed to check things in their countries and those who have taken part in the org, yeah?

And,do they have to have any suspicious things or any base on which they search people's things??

I've been reading this throughout the day and am basically horrified.
It seems all privacy is slowly going out the window.

It would seem Benjamin that they don't need provocation at all to search if they feel like it they will do it!
What is the world coming to? :-W

Did nobody see this happening I mean Stateside anyways, this all began with the Patriot Act, giving up our freedoms for security, everone was fine with it then so whats the problem now...

JK of course I know this is messed up but it was being planned out for years and people did see it coming, and if you think it was just going to stay in the United States you were wrong, anyone that teamed up with President Bush's invasion plan into Iraq is most likely in this as well.

If they go through with this the whole world is basically screwed.
